A huge event took place in 2015. The Sea of Okhotsk became an inner sea of Russia. This put the end to the all those horror stories about battles of Russian border patrols and coastal guards with pirates and international sea poachers.
Magadan is a port town and the administrative center of Magadan Oblast, Russia, located on the Sea of Okhotsk in Nagayevo Bay in the Taui Bay and serving as a gateway to the Kolyma region. Magadan region is a gold heart of Russia.

Car trip from Vladivostok to Magadan in September 2013
5000 kilometers in 7 minutes. A very entertaining video.
On 1:08 he says that a road could be better, but he is sure that he will be able to make it.
On 3:28 the stop sign is in English. I don’t know why. A blue sign says “Yakutsk 1200”
The guy says at the end: “I am so happy that I have had a chance to make this trip. ”
Those are not bears. Those are Russian squirrels.
As if Russia needed an extra almost half million square miles of territory, especially one rich in enormous natural resources. But I can’t think of a nation I’d rather have it happen to than Russia.
How come God made Russia so beautiful? The creator must have had serious intentions for the future of that place..
I am a bit wary of Scott’s humour sometimes, and do a kind of mental back stepping with quizzical glances, like the fabulous furry creature in the video,.. can it really be a squirrel, and can one really trust the driver of that car parked at Scott’s corner, to always tell the truth?
Maybe Russian squirrels are exceptional. Yes, that’s it – the Exceptionalism of Russian Squirrels as symbol for the Exceptionalism of the Russian nation – bravo Mother Russia!
Well, Magadan definitely really looks like a place where real people live. Those buidlings like
containers stranded in the valley, but all seeming alomost the same ( very soviet !) also have a certain beauty in its uniformity. Perhaps, if we all lived in the same kind of house for a small fee, there would be shelter for all, it would eliminate a good source of frustration and maybe people, instead of focusing life in a crazy race to stand out more than its neighbor, could devote to cultivate oneself (study, travel, learn about other cultures ….) which is much more interesting than having a great car and a mansion with a garden and a pool, in the end something really available to very few
Very evocative road movie of that guy…..really enviable…… I love traveling with the car on my own, but now I can not longer trust it, eventhough Ioving it a lot because it takes me everywhere, but it is already very old and is leaking oil…… I really would love to do this kind of trip, but maybe need a strong good car and,…..let´s face it….. a burly Russian who could accompany me….. to change the flat tires, refloat the car from the snow or ice, fend me off bears and read what they say signs in the road and the road map……. A dream, for now, although you never know ……
“Life on the open road is liberty… to be alone, to have few needs, to be unknown, everywhere a foreigner and at home, and to walk grandly and solitarily in conquest of the world”.
“For now it seems that by advancing into unknown territories, I entered into my life”.
“One must never look for happiness: one meets it by the way…”
