Dear friends,
I am getting a lot of comments and emails asking me to clarify the situation with the joint Russia-ICRC convoy for Novorussia. The reason I am not posting anything about this is that all the information I see about this is completely contradictory. The situation is so confused as to make even an educated guess impossible. All I can say that that the convoy apparently left form the city of Naro-Fominsk, that it has been organized by the Russian Ministry for Emergencies (one of the most effective branch of government in Russia) and that if this convey ever crosses the border the stakes will be huge so rather than to speculate I prefer to keep quiet and frankly admit that I simply have no idea at this point in time where all this is headed. It could quite literally be anything.

The convoy of hope for the ‘subhumans’ is getting no traction in the world press.
Ban Ki Moon, whore of the UN secretariat, and the other whorettes of the various Human Rights orgs and NGOs seem to have no interest in helping a million or more people, hospitals, schools and other places ‘subhumans’ gather in terror and need.
If those electrical generators ever get to Lugansk, it will be a miracle.
Following the rules of Obama and Kiev is not good policy. The convoy of hope and relief should have been driven in from Rostov directly to Lugansk.

This is genocide in Novorossiya, and Russia has a moral imperative to get relief to the people.

But, I’m free to think this way. No one in Russia has that flexibility.
Notice how the Pope suddenly went from embracing gays to demanding a Crusade to save Christians. Finally, has his priorities straightened out for the moment.
At some point in time, there will be a standoff. High Noon in Novorossiya or somewhere, Crimea, Rostov, up in Kaliningrad, or with the Japanese in the Kurils, or wherever Russia looks gentle and passive.
This is as good a time and place to strap it on and call out the Hegemon. Obama is incapable of standing up. He lops Hellfire missiles from Predators and Global Hawks, but he can’t go eyeball-to-eyeball. And his clique is terrified of his legacy going down in Iraq. Yet, his timid response to ISIS is indicative of his weakness.
Call him out and back him down. No one has the Hegemon’s back. No one. It stands alone, belching fire, but confused, violent and in need of dousing.

If you really want to get angry, read the comments on the NYT article. Not a shred of compassion for the people of Novorossiya just an ugly anti – Russia hate fest. I think of these people who likely know nothing of Russian or Ukrainian history who are so arrogant that they think they know everything. They are sitting in their easy chairs, clean water, fridge full of food and they make me sick.
Americans reveled in helping kill Russians in Afghanistan as we had waited over 30 years from
1947 or so when they officially became the enemy to help bloody them up a bit. Now another 30 plus years on the chance has come again.
Don’t get me wrong I am not defending the USA but the urge to punish and kill most any foreigner in the US transcends ideology.
Russian determination to go it’s own way and so implicitly and explicitly be a power of some sort on the global stage is anathema to America, period. So that means economic and proxy wars a day cheering mightily any of their blood spilled.
One sometimes feels that there’s too much clamour for immediate pronouncements, too much reacting to day-to-day events. While it’s understandable that everyone wants to share every tiniest tidbit of news, info, speculation, rumour, the moment it surfaces, it’s better that the host of this blog leave the hubbub to the guests here and himself find the time and mental space to focus more on the sort of more considered analyses that graced a lot of his earlier columns. The main value of this site is surely the Saker’s own writing, bringing his knowledge, experience and considered opinion to bear (together with his regular contributors providing “sitreps” and other digests). Going in through nazi held territory nixes the chance of ZPC zio-media claiming the aide convoy is miltary invasion in disguise. It also prevents likewise ludicrous claims from the regime quislings of western regimes. How the aide gets from nazi territory to human held territory is not completely resolved, apparently, but with world attention being on the convoy, any ZPC underhandedness will be fully transparent and obvious. Very good move by Russia.

The convoy is both the right thing to do, humane and just, as well as brilliant strategically. There is no downside for the RF here. Who can deny the need for humanitarian assistance in the Donbass region? If/when the convoy is attacked the justification for a Russian response practically writes itself. Does this mean the Junta could use this humanitarian convoy to infiltrate the milita?
I think the aid will get through since it is obviously being delivered as an ultimatum by the Russian Federation as an alternative to the application of some kind of force. It is a humanitarian act, a global PR victory, take some pressure off of Lugansk militia, enables the Donetsk militia to do whatever they have to do and enables whatever activity might take place over the militia-controlled border.
On the other hand, the state formation known as Ukraine will try to fuck it up in whatever way possible, and will fuck it up in some way no matter what. But that is the case with all of their actions, that’s just the way it is.
I think the overall military situation is about to change in interesting ways . . . and possibly the political situation. DPR apparently opened an office in Serbia.
Winter is coming, but sooner, the fall rains.
Extensive guerilla warfare is coming no matter what happens in Donetsk and Lugansk.
If the convoy is traversing through Kiev Regime controlled territory, I wonder what steps the Russians have taken or will take in the event that the regime stops the convoy and says to the drivers, “Thank you very much, we’ll take the convoy from here. There are buses over there to take you back to Russia. Have a safe trip and thanks again!!”

I can’t see the Ukie soldiers letting that stuff get past them. It will be stolen and some obvious lie told to justify rationalise it.
I think it is so confusing because the Russians are being quite vague and are deliberately keeping everyone guessing. Here is my guess. They have no intention of sending the convoy through Karkov but will use one of the crossing in Lughansk controlled by the militias. They will be daring the Kiev forces in attacking. Should that happen the Russians will have a perfect R2P excuse to establish a no-fly zone over Donbas and to conduct “surgical” airstrikes against those forces sieging Donetsk and Lughansk. Maybe that is a hopeful guess.

Last I heard is Russia agreed to all the demands by Kiev, including points of entry of the convoy, putting Ukrainian license plates on the trucks and including Ukrainian officials in the convoy. This was in all the main russian news agencies. I suppose there is a chance that at least part of the convoy or its cargo ends up in the hands of the Ukrainian army. Who knows.

“We have agreed to the route that is comfortable to the Kiev authorities. We have agreed to have Ukrainian license plates on our trucks during their movement in Ukraine,” he said.

Colonel Cassad has a blog entry with a couple of videos showing the complete destruction of the 72nd mechanized brigade near Sverdlovsk. There are numerous totally shredded vehicles, supply trucks, BMPs, BTRs, tanks, self-propelled howitzers. It is difficult to count the number maybe 20-30 vehicles. Eerily, there is no sign of Ukrainian military, dead or alive. Perhaps they high tailed over the border? Piles of ammunition survive, along with evidence of US Govt MREs.
Eventually Russia will be bailing out the whole of Ukraine anyway. This is just a small step in the inevitable direction.

Looks like Israel has OK’d the aide shipment through the junta’s delegated American handlers.
I see two areas of potential ZPC shenanigans:
1) At the customs inspection, the junta nazis seize part of the shipment, claiming it is “contraband” (an old and ubiquitous Israeli trick used on aide sent to the Palestinians), or the sods invent some “issue” and refuse acceptance in the Ukraine.
2) Once the convoy is inside the Lugansk border, but still in junta controlled territory, or within artillery range, it is attacked by the nazis and the attack blamed on the Novorussian forces. Like the sods did regarding access to, and at the MH17 crash site.

Whatever is going on with this convoy it is clearly a plan that the Russians have carefully planned. I made a guess above but maybe there is something else going on.
It seems they have offered the Ukes a deal they cannot refuse. If so then it seems clear by now the world press will following that convoy. This has the potential to bring the plight of citizens of Donbas to the entire world. We might start seeing the effects of two months of artillery and aerial bombings of the cities of Lughansk and Donetsk. Maybe the western press will start to show some of those images.
In any case, the Russians do have a plan here and it might not be anything deeper than exposing to the rest of the world what the Ukies have been doing

russia has oficially answered that plea, and wanted to hand over a convoi with humanitarian aid to the ICRC, to distribute within eastern ukraine as they like. the personell would be transfered as well. accepting this help and leading it into eastern ukraine would classify the conflict a civil war, because otherwise the government of ukraine would be resonsible (a responsibility that they obviously do not meet in any way- they don’t even provide refugee camps or any other form of relief)
this whole issue is a severe test on the red cross, because if it would bow to us-pressure and refuses to declare the conflict a civil war, it would be more or less the death of it as a real neutral international organization.
on the other hand, an official declaration of the conflict in ukraine as a civil war would have one other major implication: the IMF would have to stop its loans, because its not allowed to give money to countries with internal conflicts.
thats the same reason the regime in kiew does not introduce martial law- that would have the same implications.
stopping the loans would not require a majority descision, just an appeal by one single member.

Who is satan. In Semitic languages it is a noun and it means, “adversary”. I don’t see why people write satan with a capital “S” like it is a proper noun.

Jesus did referred to “scriptures” but to which ones? The Old Testament as a compendium did not exist till a few decades after Jesus’ murder.
