However: It appears to be something like St.Moritz.
For the AZ Oligarchs where everybody has his own 2 helicopters and 5 horses (1 per color).
I see in these images what is beneath the surface: Blood, poverty, sweat!
Because that’s where these freaks took all their wealth from!
I’m convinced not before the very day these are the living standards for the 99%.
p.s. In remote regions of Siberie where you can only go by chopper (or you need 3 months through the wildness instead of 2 hours) it is not competitive to give local residents a ride if they need something uregntly from the outside world. It simply is not competitive because they won’t earn in a year what the expenses are for a single lift. YET: During Soviet times all that was provided to them by Aeroflot transport helicopters. For FREE.
Ah! Obviously! These are proletarian hotels…..
Just where proletarians must go, ok?….when going to Altai or wherever….
Last time the proletarians were deserving some luxury was under Stalin, as shows the Moscow metro, theaters or health resorts which were built for the people to enjoy…..but, of course, at that time there were no wages of 7 figures for anyone.
Beautiful scenery. I would very much like to visit and enjoy these places. It is difficult to ascertain if it is the Russian insularity that discourages international tourism or the western media fondness for presenting Siberia as an icy prison camp that has enabled these places to retain their beauty and natural wonder. A bit of both I suspect. And on that Russian insularity. I recently commented on the Russian gift to Fiji of weapons for their army and their was no response from other commenters. Where is the NZ Russian embassy staff? Do they not see the value in a little public relations activity.
I understand the reluctance to self promote, It is an attribute of many New Zealanders, yes I said attribute, but given the American dominance of the western media I think that the Russian diplomatic service needs to “up their game” and direct their attention to how Russia is perceived by the general western public and what they can do about it . If it wasn’t for the Saker I too would probably have swallowed the lies of the western media hook line and sinker.
Where did you get the idea that Russia discourages international tourists???
Visited in 2013 – part organised tour and part self travel. T
It took 1 week to get a Russian Visa – applied on line. Yes the questionnaire wanted to know ‘what you had for breakfast’, but that is no issue if you have a clean slate.
There are some oddities of Russian travel ie that you have to be sponsored but the hotel will do that.
We booked rain travel online and the tickets were sent by courier from Moscow to Australia, taking 2 days to arrive. So service is prompt and efficient. The tickets looked like beautiful postcards and I was disappointed that we had to hand them to the train hostess. Train travel is very comfortable and all have sleeping compartments.
There was one funny moment when crossing the border into Russia – the inspectors came onto the train to check documents and because my passport have silver writing on the cover and my husbands had gold (they were acquired in different years) it caused some narrow eyed scrutiny through the eye glass. That moment was a bit ‘soviet’.
So don’t just think about going – do it. Russia will amaze and inspire you.
In a way, Russia does discourage travel there, because the visa fees are so high, and the ‘sponsoring’ sounds like corruption – I had a completely unknown company sponsor me, for £35 (say $50 – but it was a rush job too) – what for? Also, the visa is only valid for one month, and to get into the Donbass and return to Russia requires a multi-visa – more rip-offs.
Ike – There is no Russian Embassy in New Zealand – it’s all based out of Canberra
I yelled at the radio when that “news” clip was aired. . . . .”it’s a Goddamned weapons SALE . . . . .do we get breathless news stenographers announcing US or UK weapons sales to all & sundry?? . . . .NO !! so why Russian ones ??” Well we know why, don’t we. . . . . demonization of Russia & everything Russian with the view of walking the west’s vast population happily off to war, no question asked. And hard as it is to believe, the “Russian aggression” meme is working it’s magic
You have changed my views of Siberia. Where are all the prisons?
Or, as an Americano might say: what are Russians doing on our land? Don’t they know we’re going to mine, clear-cut and drill there?
What is this anyway? A Prison Planet or a Paradise Planet?
Stunning beauty and amazing colours.
That verdant green hurt my eyes … wow.
Wonderful indeed.
Especially the lovely horses.

Don’t be proud of the Oligarchs who robb/rip you (and us all) off.
GET RID off them!
Here is something to be proud of:
Да здравствует 1 мая! За солидарность трудящихся! 2013

Martin, those are just tourists hotels. They are not for “oligarchs” and they are affordable.

@Scott:
Sankt Moritz is also “just a tourist destination”.
And “prices there are verrrrry affordable”.
