I am getting emails from all types of sources about Ukrainian cities already being liberated. The problem is that there are, as predicted, A LOT of fakes out there, including from anti-Putin Russian interests. So rather than risk getting it wrong and list those cities, I will just offer a few comments and then take a break.
- I was expecting an operational-level Russian operation, but what I see today this is clearly a strategic operation. This is way bigger than what I expected.
- We are in the very early phases of the operation, but I see all the usual signs of a Ukrainian strategic collapse. By tomorrow morning we should know a lot more.
- The first strike phase of the operation has been extremely successful and the Ukrainian ground forces are now not only without any kind of cover or support (the Ukie Air Force and Navy passed away today), they are also without orders: not only has the Ukronazi HQ in the Donbass been totally destroyed, the Russians are, no doubt, putting down their EW blanket on the full area of operations.
- I think that by tomorrow evening the operational envelopment of the Ukie forces in the eastern Ukraine will be completed. After that, only two types of Ukie soldiers will be left: those who surrendered and the dead.
- The Russians have either approached or even surrounded several major Ukrainian cities. I won’t list them now. Why? Because by tomorrow we will have that list confirmed.
- Belarus is fully backing Russia (Lukashenko was very emphatic about that today), as does Iran. Our Chinese friends have been rather restrained and proffered only well-intended generalities, let’s see if that changes in the future.
- I also suspect that tomorrow will be the last day for the US PSYOPs to try to control the narrative, after that there will be too many cellphones with cameras to conceal the magnitude of the disaster.
- For this reason, I still expect a major false flag.
- The Poles and Hungarians have declared that they fear a massive influx of refugees and that they are therefore deploying more forces to the border to “control the situation”. These forces could be easily and quickly moved inside the Western Ukraine to seize the Lvov and Ivano-Frankovsk regions. Best of all (for them) is that they can be pretty sure that the Russians won’t object. And with all the NATO facilities in the Ukraine being destroyed right now, the Russians can toss this (mostly Nazi) and faraway bone to whoever in the EU who wants it (The Hungarians are probably too smart for that, but the Poles???). Whatever may be the case, I expect a minor NATO operation into the western Ukraine in the next couple of days. Frankly, I couldn’t care less.
- Another MAJOR risk is the presence in the Ukraine of A LOT of very dangerous part of the civilian infrastructure (including 15 nuclear reactors which barely function). The Ukies have already blown up at least one (pretty small) dam near Lugansk. I hope that the Russian and Belarusian special forces will secure these facilities as soon as humanely possible.
- Next: watch the Russian Black Sea fleet. Something tells me that tomorrow we will see it A LOT and, probably, along the entire Ukie coast.
- Last but not least. Iraq has shown that it is one thing to destroy an army, and quite another to deal with an insurgency, even one armed with only small arms and RPGs. I remain categorically opposed to any Russian mid/long occupation of the Ukraine. I am confident that Putin will soon declare the end of major combat operations (if only because there won’t be many enemies left) and that many Russian forces will begin a pullback. But the nightmare of having hundreds of thousands of assault rifles distributed to “the population” but which, in reality, armed what NATO will want to see as a “stay behind insurgency” will begin. And I want the Ukrainians to fight that battle by themselves, with some Russian help if needed, but not by hiding behind Russian forces. So A LOT really depends on the people of the Ukraine: the coming days will show us who and what they are. Now is the time for them to do the right thing.
That’s it. I wish we had more info, but here we need to stop and wait.

It would be interesting to know how far China will support Russia during this time. I have always believed that Russia and China would always help each other in their fight against the hegenomy. But I’m a bit concerned now that perhaps their relationship is not as strong as many of us believe. When I see how the West and its allies support each other no matter what, I really wish China would show the same level of support for Russia both in words and actions. Or is their relationship purely just business and China just doesn’t want to jeopardise their economic ties with the West. We are at a turning point in history. Indeed they have gone far beyond the Donetsk and Lugansk oblasts.
Russia wants to accomplish two things before they proclaim Mission Accomplished and go home.
1 is to end any threat to the DNR and LNR. 2 is to end any threat to Russia from Ukraine.
But both goals require removing the Ukrainian military as a force, and most of its war material. If you have been reading this site, you should know that Russia was not going to take any halfway measures. It doesn’t matter if Russia did a half-baked itsy-bitsy operation or full-on major surgical removal, either way the Empire will try to impose the sanctions etc. Since it’s one price either way, Russia might as well do everything it wants. The Empire must have realized years ago that it was out of ammo, that The Empire had thrown away all possibilities for escalation – short of mutually assured nuclear destruction.
Besides, it is super super important to secure the nuclear power plants so the crazies can’t use them as a radiological dirty weapon. I expect the Kremlin will not allow the Ukrainian government (if there will be such a thing) to simply have them back, and instead will demand some international organization take responsibility. The Americans sold fuel rods for the Ukie reactors, completely aware that the rods don’t fit. There is a danger of a runaway reactor if the rods get stuck.

I don’t think Ukrainians will be able to deal with the Nazis on their own, the Nazis in Ukraine are well armed, NATO trained, in military terms they are on a higher echelon than, let’s say, the Trump supporters/white supremacist (Three percenters/Oath Keepers, etc.) in the US.
Nazis have crushed any and all political expressions that align with Russia or Russian symbols. A denazification campaign would require local organizations and structures at oblast, cities and neighborhood levels to uproot those who have participated/supported the Nazis. Ukraine has none of that, they have been crushed.
Russia could cut the head of the snake, but this is a hydra with many heads, it will take some time to cut them all. As for the “resistance,” it could deflate into nothing, after the defeat of the Ukrainian army, we have to wait and see. There will always be some die hards, no doubt, further resistance, however, IMHO, will depend on how the Russians deal with the main army forces.

I too was shocked by the extent of this operation in Ukraine. I thought that tactical strikes would be the response to Ukronazi aggression against Donbass. Boy was I wrong, but at the same time I am relieved.
This obviously had to be done. The threat to Russian national security allowing this Junta Regime to continue unchecked was just too great for Moscow to ignore. Now I hope Moscow is very thorough in neutralizing any and all threats to it’s national security emanating from Ukraine.
I knew as soon as the sanctions came down and Nord Stream 2 was dead that there would be no reason for the Russians to hold back anymore. Might as well clean house in Ukraine and neutralize the threat to Russia. It makes sense.

Any military updates? There’s lot of chatter on Telegram and Twitter about Ukrainian counter attacks and that the Russian VDV and SOF unit at the airport near Kiev got wiped out unfortunately…seems like Russia is holding back a lot of their air support for some reason.
Russian sources like Igor Strelkov are stating the Russian VDV forces fully captured the airport and the “wiped out” thing is complete lie/propaganda. Someone is lying, hard to tell who but I’ll be honest, and I say this as neutrally as possible, the evidence points to Russian forces having taken the airport. The reason is, CNN released footage of their war correspondent filming the Russians capturing the airport and repelling some attack. So we do know they actually took it at one point, that’s a confirmed fact. But there is ZERO footage, evidence, pictures of bodies, equipment etc of any sort that shows the VDV attack was repelled and the assault forces were killed. As you can see from tons of Twitter channels, the Ukrops are gleefully posting any shred of possible Russian casualties that they can and they would have LOVED to post demoralizing photos of such a massive wipeout, after all they claim in this defeat that something along the lines of 7 Russian helicopters were destroyed from the special forces. Yet not a single photo or shred of proof has been posted anywhere. So all the evidence points to the Russian analysts being correct and that they did in fact capture the airport and are still controlling it.
The only other possibility is: they captured it but then got word of a large force moving in and retreated and got out of there which would mean that Kiev would rightfully announce they “recaptured it” but then lied and exaggerated the outcome by stating they ‘killed the entire unit’.
Al-Jazeera had a life report early on the a large contingent of helicopters and a fleet of 20 transports are flying in tonight. Not sure whether that was true or hearsay.

While I understand the reasoning and rationale for the Russian invasion of Ukraine, there is, as many US and Western leaders have warned, the GREAT possibility that Russia will be totally downgraded to the status of an international pariah state, on par with North Korea. That would be a nightmarish scenario for Russia in the many years ahead, being isolated financially and diplomatically from the rest of the world. I hope and pray this doesn’t happen though, but I fear there is a GREAT possibility of it becoming a reality.

There is no absolutely perfect time for such an action, you will always have major losses/liabilities ontop of the gains and advantages of such a risky move BUT if you really think about it, right now more than any other time in recent history is the perfect time for Russia to make this move. The reason is that Europe/U.S./NATO are at their absolute weakest, the entire globe is racked with a major global economic depression that is catastrophically sending western civilizations into complete societal collapse and major upheaval and instability. So Putin knows that to be a “pariah” state in such an environment is not really that bad because it will be sort of swept under the tide of these western governments soon contending with increasingly dangerous situations at home in the vein of Canada’s uprising and the many protests all over. These developments will vastly limit the ability of western governments to truly respond to Russia and “hurt” it any way economically particularly given the fact that: 1. Russia is currently positioned much stronger to handle economic strife than any European or western country is (with its record high foreign reserve stockpiles, its dedollarized economy, etc) and 2. don’t forget the biggest trump card of all: Russia has China’s full backing. No matter how much of a “pariah” the western system turns you into, if THE most powerful economic force currently on the planet fully has your back then you are in a good place. China has already pledged to pick up the slack and help Russia economically if they are hit with sanctions, etc.

Well firstly, if you followed updates today you’d see that Russian airborne forces captured Hostomel (sometimes spelled Gostomel) which is walking distance from Kiev (basically IS part of Kiev suburbs/outskirts). Now, Ukrainian sources claim that they heroically slaughtered the entire airborne battalion there and recaptured the airport but the problem is, there is zero evidence of this and Russian sources have still proclaimed it as being captured. It’s impossible to tell who is right but we do know for 100% confirmed fact it was at one point captured because CNN literally filmed its capture (this report https://youtu.be/b40r8RX5MoE). There’s also many on the ground reports showing Russian forces taking over the airport like this one https://twitter.com/RALee85/status/1496999186805448708 and many others. Look up on google maps how far Hostomel is from Kiev, it’s literally shouting distance. So that’s one possibility. Other reports just from minutes ago say: OSINT UKRAINE@OSINT_Ukraine🇷🇺🇺🇦⚡️US officials told lawmakers that Russian forces are about 32 km from Kiev – CNN citing two sources.
Most of the shorter range systems like Tor, Buk, Pantsir have ranges roughly in that range. Of course there’s the possibility S-400 got it (easily can reach that range) as there were reports Russia moved S-400 system somewhere on Belarus border nearby. Honestly, the U.S. invaded Iraq with a force of 309,000 on March 21, 2003 and it took them until April 10 to capture Bagdad, against a resistance that was much weaker than what Ukraine can muster. (Iraq population about 23 million people, Ukraine population is almost 50 million.)
Russia has so far only committed something like 20,000 or less troops to this attack against a country more than double the population of Iraq and about 50% larger in area as well. So if the U.S. with its 300k troops took literally 3 weeks to get to the capital of a country much smaller and weaker with far worse equipment, then why is everyone expecting Russia to instantly capture Kiev in only a matter of hours?
Even in 2008 in Georgia, Russia began encircling Tblisi after like a week of combat, and Georgia has 4 million population, compared to Ukraine’s 50 million……..yet we expect Kiev to fall in a few hours…?

I think you’re right that “tomorrow will be a crucial day.” Today the Russian soldiers were on the outskirts of Kiev around noon, and there have been only 100 or so deaths until now, facts that suggest there’s hardly any resistance.

The Russian operations in Syria provide a good template what to expect in Ukraine. Of course we’re talking about a much larger area and population in Ukraine than in Syria. Russia is not occupying Syria and I’m sure that Russia will not occupy Ukraine. However I’m sure that Russian forces of some kind will stay there. Here are my ideas and I am no military expert at all.
1. The militias of the LDNR will be of major help in forming militias in the other oblasts to be involved in a new security force
2. Once the major fighting is over and the Ukrainian military is finished then Russian MP’s will, like in Syria, do a lot to keep the peace.
3. Once a new Russian-friendly security force is established Russian MP’s can leave
4. Like in Syria Russia will maintain a few large bases in Ukraine which will be necessary to keep an eye on Nato disruption efforts and nazi sabotage efforts
In general Russian military will stay in Ukraine for awhile but will have a very low visibility and will not get involved in the internal political system at all (primarily security). Apparently Bismark said that Russians have a plan even when they do #2 so I’m positive that Putin and the Russian leadership have thought through all of the situations that can arise after Ukraine has been liberated. I’m sure they have a plan.
To paraphrase Mao successful guerillas will hide amongst the population like a fish in water. On the issue of guerilla operations of the remaining Banderistas I think that would be a very serious problem if Russia occupied openly in western Ukraine. However I don’t think in Russian speaking areas of Ukraine, the fascists will find much support in the population. They will stand out. Weren’t there once rumours that North Korea had acquired its missiles and nuclear bombs with Ukrainian help? I can remember some expert talking on TV about footage from a North Korean rocket launch, where he pointed out that the exhaust plume looked like on Soviet rockets. If Ukraine really has all the necessary know-how for a nuclear force stowed away in North Korea, then Russia really had no choice but to intervene immediately and not only in the Donbass after Zelensky had made his utterances at the Munich security conference. Russian experts have already chimed in on the topic and stated that it would be VERY easy for Ukraine to get nukes and they can do so even faster than Iran if Iran were to be given full go-ahead to produce nukes at their fastest. We’ve all heard the stories that Iran can get nukes in less than a year if allowed to fully use the centrifuges so I assume this means Ukraine can make them even faster than 1 year according to this one comment I heard. But on top of which, Ukraine has the delivery means to place the nukes on legacy Soviet delivery vehicles and actually reach Moscow et al, that’s the dangerous part. A nuke is nothing without the right type of missiles in your possession and from what I understand Ukraine has the legacy capabilities to do so.

Another jet possibly shot down in outskirts of Kiev. First impression it looks like maybe an su-24 by the wreckage photos, and one commenter said the camo looks Ukrainian not Russian but it’s absolutely impossible to tell whose it is. On one hand hard to believe Russia would be flying jets directly over Kiev if it still has live/active anti air capabilities, but on the other hand Russia claimed that it had destroyed Ukraine’s entire airforce yet we keep getting repeated claims of new Ukraine planes going down so ….obviously something is iffy. Then again, there were reports of some Ukraine planes fleeing to other neighboring states in the opening strikes, so that may have saved them and now they’ve returned. And I’m not talking about just the one that went to Romanian airspace. There were other reports that since Ukraine pretty much knew Russia would start their bombardment last night, a lot of Ukrainian jets took off to the air so as to not get destroyed on the ground in cruise missile attacks. So some of these jets may have went elsewhere after their airports were destroyed, perhaps landed somewhere on backroads and hidden or taken in by neighboring ally countries like Romania took in the 1 confirmed Ukrainian Su-27.

It is hard to find any reliable sources for actual facts on the ground. It appears Russia has been successful in its immediate objectives (air superiority, destruction of AA abilities, and so on). Still subsequent and final objectives (denatzification and destruction of UAF offensive capabilities) to go.
True to classical Russian military principles that were even taught by the tsarist general staff, the Russian forces have shown:
Extreme exertion of force at the beginning of a war. Simultaneity of actions. Economy of forces. Concentration. Chief objective – the enemy army. Surprise. Unity of action. Obvious preparation. Energetic pursuit. Initiative and dominance over the Ukrainian’s will. Strength where the enemy is weak. Security.
This has so far been an operational masterpiece. Russia has designed actions that preempt the UAF and kept them reacting to situations the Russians control. To be fair they have had help from the Ukrainians. The UAF have made so many unbelievable blunders. Why did they leave the bulk of their forces hundreds of KM over the Dnieper if they suspected the Russians were going to attack? Seems incredibly stupid.
The truth is, it’s been noted by several expert military analysts from both sides so far that Russia has very much held back in their attacks so far. Not only has it only committed a purported 50% or less of its current mobilized battle groups (the ones sitting right on the Russian side of the border, etc) but even in the air attack it was much less than ‘shock and awe’ than what many people expected, particularly the fact that 1. no drones, loitering munitions etc were used 2. no heavy bombers were yet used, mostly only long range cruise missiles for now. The going theory for now is the fact that Russia initially did not want to cause massive loss of life, not even to Ukrainian military forces, rather they only wanted to surgically cripple only the inanimate key materiel like anti-air systems and military storage facilities for ammunition, fuel, and other essentials. Not sure how accurate any of this is, but this is the sentiment amongst many experts and I agree with it because Russia could have committed a much larger force with a much larger opening salvo attack. For comparison purposes, the U.S./NATO operation to invade Iraq consisted of over 310,000 troops, while Russia so far has committed a measley 30-60k or less for this assault.
So I agree they’ve done a lot with very little but this by no means is even close to the full capabilities of the Russian armed forces as Russia has held back the power of its attack immensely. We’ll see if Kiev’s actions force Russia to truly dial up the intensity knob.

it was reported earlier that Shoigu himself issued the command that all Ukrainian prisoners be treated “with respect” and so far videos have shown respect (surprisingly) on both sides. A video of Ukrainian POW’s showed Russian interrogator talking to them calmly and giving them cigarettes and lighting it for them. And on the flip side, surprisingly a video of alleged Ukrainian captors showed the Ukie soldier helping to bandage a “Russian” captive soldier’s arm which was injured.
Shoigu made the distinction between regular forces, to treat them with respect, and the Nazis. There are already some rumors of executions, don’t know if it is credible. Even the US forces did not take prisoners and executed SS soldiers on the spot in battle in WW2.
