I am getting emails from all types of sources about Ukrainian cities already being liberated. The problem is that there are, as predicted, A LOT of fakes out there, including from anti-Putin Russian interests. So rather than risk getting it wrong and list those cities, I will just offer a few comments and then take a break.
- I was expecting an operational-level Russian operation, but what I see today this is clearly a strategic operation. This is way bigger than what I expected.
- We are in the very early phases of the operation, but I see all the usual signs of a Ukrainian strategic collapse. By tomorrow morning we should know a lot more.
- The first strike phase of the operation has been extremely successful and the Ukrainian ground forces are now not only without any kind of cover or support (the Ukie Air Force and Navy passed away today), they are also without orders: not only has the Ukronazi HQ in the Donbass been totally destroyed, the Russians are, no doubt, putting down their EW blanket on the full area of operations.
- I think that by tomorrow evening the operational envelopment of the Ukie forces in the eastern Ukraine will be completed. After that, only two types of Ukie soldiers will be left: those who surrendered and the dead.
- The Russians have either approached or even surrounded several major Ukrainian cities. I won’t list them now. Why? Because by tomorrow we will have that list confirmed.
- Belarus is fully backing Russia (Lukashenko was very emphatic about that today), as does Iran. Our Chinese friends have been rather restrained and proffered only well-intended generalities, let’s see if that changes in the future.
- I also suspect that tomorrow will be the last day for the US PSYOPs to try to control the narrative, after that there will be too many cellphones with cameras to conceal the magnitude of the disaster.
- For this reason, I still expect a major false flag.
- The Poles and Hungarians have declared that they fear a massive influx of refugees and that they are therefore deploying more forces to the border to “control the situation”. These forces could be easily and quickly moved inside the Western Ukraine to seize the Lvov and Ivano-Frankovsk regions. Best of all (for them) is that they can be pretty sure that the Russians won’t object. And with all the NATO facilities in the Ukraine being destroyed right now, the Russians can toss this (mostly Nazi) and faraway bone to whoever in the EU who wants it (The Hungarians are probably too smart for that, but the Poles???). Whatever may be the case, I expect a minor NATO operation into the western Ukraine in the next couple of days. Frankly, I couldn’t care less.
- Another MAJOR risk is the presence in the Ukraine of A LOT of very dangerous part of the civilian infrastructure (including 15 nuclear reactors which barely function). The Ukies have already blown up at least one (pretty small) dam near Lugansk. I hope that the Russian and Belarusian special forces will secure these facilities as soon as humanely possible.
- Next: watch the Russian Black Sea fleet. Something tells me that tomorrow we will see it A LOT and, probably, along the entire Ukie coast.
- Last but not least. Iraq has shown that it is one thing to destroy an army, and quite another to deal with an insurgency, even one armed with only small arms and RPGs. I remain categorically opposed to any Russian mid/long occupation of the Ukraine. I am confident that Putin will soon declare the end of major combat operations (if only because there won’t be many enemies left) and that many Russian forces will begin a pullback. But the nightmare of having hundreds of thousands of assault rifles distributed to “the population” but which, in reality, armed what NATO will want to see as a “stay behind insurgency” will begin. And I want the Ukrainians to fight that battle by themselves, with some Russian help if needed, but not by hiding behind Russian forces. So A LOT really depends on the people of the Ukraine: the coming days will show us who and what they are. Now is the time for them to do the right thing.
That’s it. I wish we had more info, but here we need to stop and wait.
By tomorrow we will know A LOT more.
Goodnight everybody
Andrei
==>>ADDENDUM: IMPORTANT PERSONAL NOTE FROM ANDREI TO YOU ALL
First, a HUGE THANK YOU to all those who have reached out to help:
- we have several new potential moderators
- the donations have risen very sharply
- and I was contacted by 5 volunteer translators!!!
So we are doing great, thank you to all!!!! As always, the Saker Community helped immensely!
Second, we have one small area of concern – traffic is so huge that our servers are working hard and our networks struggling. So far, no DDoS attack, it’s just the “price” to pay for such huge traffic.
If you have a hard time reaching the blog, just be patient, it should load up. If a disaster happens, I will inform you there: http://vineyardsaker.blogspot.com/

Very correctly noted in paragraph 9 about Poland. Could Wojsko Polskie launch an operation to establish control over the western part of Ukraine? This is Russia’s soul wide open, information openness. A month before the “Z-Day”, the whole world was trumpeted about the movement of troops to the borders of Ukraine with photos. It is not known what is going on there in Województwo Lubelskie.
The Saker prediction that the Russian military will be doing more POW processing than fighting is beginning to come true.
Winners: USA
Losers: DE
The purpose of provocation was obtaining retaliation. The purpose of retaliation was an excuse for sanctions. The purpose of sanctions is to cut off NS1 and NS2. The benefits of cutting off NS1 and NS2 are:
1. DE is forced to buy 3x more expensive USA nat gas. Profit: USA hydrocarbon industry
2. DE and EU NATO are forced to raise mil spending from 1.3% of GDP to about 4%. Profit: USA arms industry
3. DE and ITA industry, especially chemicals, forced to relocate to energy cheap USA. Profit: USA chemicals industry
Scholtz and Putin have one way, and one way only, to get out of this trap:
1. In closing days of special operation Putin calls Scholtz over
2. Scholtz goes for talks and walks out with great foreign policy victory: Russia will withdraw
3. Scholtz later lets leak that NS2 was the quid pro quo
4. NS2 opens & USA spazzes out but quietly because nobody can criticize Scholtz the great peacemaker
I see another scenario.
DE gas using industries move to EU countries that have long term gas contracts with Russia. Why would they relocate to USA when they can just move a few hundred kilometers.
Scholz and Putin have no difficulties actually. All they have to do is agree that Washington has tricked and browbeaten Germany, and that henceforth Germany will have its own government and pursue its own interests. Then open the taps!
If the Yanks don’t like it, I can suggest a number of things they can do.
@Covfefe
You might be right.
But, this can be started only after complete destruction of Ukraine military capability, and large number of war criminals arrested. First, CIA network must be erradicated, or Ukraine will become terrorist heaven.
It seams that, in this drama, Lviv got the role of Idlib.
Agree in part, the biggest winner: CHINA. She will have a safe, cheap, realiable gas supply from Russia, this will make her ever more powerful. I do not have any hopes about Scholz he does not seem so clever.
It is noteworthy that the German newspaper Handelsblatt copied and pasted the obvious on Thursday
– “The commissioning of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is theoretically possible without certification from the Federal Network Agency of Germany. The fine in this case will be up to € 1 million …
Compared to the projected cost of building the gas pipeline of more than €10 billion, the amount will be negligible.”

I normally have a lot of time for Yanis Varoufakis, but here he is not well prepared.
He managed to get in some historical ‘balance’ but overall, it is an example of the conflicted and confused Euro-centric (F_ck the Yemen!) Left.
However, he’s gone down a few rungs in the ladder, imo. As for (American) Democracy Now, … I stopped listening years back, but this was a stumble on. (14min)

“Europe Must Stand with Ukraine, Condemn Putin & Roll Back NATO to Restore Peace”.
Comically nonsensical. Thanks goodness I did not yield to the temptation to buy Mr Varoufakis’ book just because of its title.
“Europe must stand with Ukraine” and “Condemn Putin”: that is easy (for some meanings of “stand with”), but accomplishes nothing.
“Roll Back NATO to Restore Peace”: that is not possible. They have often been asked, but turn a deaf ear.
They didn’t listen to Mr Lavrov; now they must attend to Mr Shoigu. If they don’t like it… tough.
I can’t resist this cartoon (although it’s ostensibly about Israel, the idea is the same):

To be honest, I expected that the Ukies would be much smarter than that and take Georgian’s experience August 2008 as example – back then the US and Turkey promised to help the Georgians, if they attack the russian peacekeepers in South Ossetia and never showed on the party. I was too optimistic, I guess.

Allegations of Canadian troops training neo-Nazis and war criminals sparks military review
Canadian officials who met with Ukrainian unit linked to neo-Nazis feared exposure by news media: documents
Kirzner-Roberts was referring to a recent report from an institute at George Washington University in the United States revealing that Centuria, a far-right group made up of Ukrainian soldiers linked to the Azov movement, boasted they received training from Canada and other NATO countries. Researchers with the university tracked social media accounts of Centuria, documenting its Ukrainian military members giving Nazi salutes, promoting white nationalism and praising members of Nazi SS units.

This is not shocking. When self-interest is involved, the empire will ally itself with anyone. Remeber back in 1980’s the media were praising the muhajadeen of Afganistan, precursors of Taliban, before they became bad guys. None of this should be surprising my friend. Canada did support horrible regimes in the past, and sadly Canadian mining companies were involved in human rights abuses all over the world.

Things go well.
But I am in doubt about possible urban warfare in Kharkov and Kiev. Ukies will certainly start using civilians as human shields and will also bunker down in cellars, sheds, apartment buildings. This kind of thing is hellishly hard to dislodge (without enormous casualties of attackers) unless you go “full Fallujah/Gaza” and simply butcher everyone, including civilians, with indiscriminate pounding. Thus far, Russians have avoided that and I would want that principle to hold.
Should you want to suffocate a city with blockade, you have “Sarajevo situation” and very hostile media reporting, prolonged conflict, relief convoys for civilians, where often fresh arms and ammo can be hidden for use of defending party. It is a mess.
Chechens in Mariupol will on the other hand take care of Azov, which is excellent development.
Russia bans all British planes from Russian airspace.
That will have a huge impact on flights from UK to Far East.
https://www.rt.com/russia/550567-russia-bans-british-aircraft/
It will also effect other airlines. All planes registered in the UK are banned from flying over Russia. I believe many leased planes are registered in Britain.
Britain is an island. Air travel is very important. Heathrow is one of the busiest airports on this planet. BoJo bans Aeroflot. Aeroflot is owned by a country with the biggest land mass on this planet that stretches from Europe to the Far East.
What’s wrong with this picture?
Rothschild has grown senile in his old age
Can’t they just fly over europe ? I have been trying to understand the logic behind going north to go south later since the talk about russian airspace started. What am I missing here?
When British flights fly to the far east, due to how the curvature of earth is shaped, they must fly over Russia in order to save tens of thousands $$$ in fuel costs per each flight. If they cannot fly over Russia they will be forced to take highly unprofitable routes that will make massive losses on air carriers
Watch this explanatory video https://youtu.be/jdNDYBt9e_U
Thanks that was a clear explanation.
Currently British Airways is not flying to the far east due to Covid, the only flight the had to cancel thus far was one to Bangkok. All other destinations are served by local airlines and I think it will stay this way. Flight to India do not need Russian Airspace from Europe, so it’s not as tragic as it sounds.
No worries.
Those plucky Brits will come up with a workaround … like switching to those old 19th-century steamliners as the preferred mode of international travel.

If you think about it, denazification does not stop in Ukraine…last time it stopped at the Oder because of the “allied” landings’ slow process to getting to the Elbe…Yeah, the famous D-Day landings were to stop the Red Armies from getting to France and the Atlantic Coast. This time? This time the logic of the situation seems to say the denazification process cannot be stopped. This time Russia does not lie in ruins. And this time Zone A is in collapse and actually seems to be bent on liquidating millions of its own people. Some people even (gasp!) claim that the WEF and dear old Klaus are running a caper. Some sort of devilish agenda… Of course piroski cannot be cooked until the oil is hot. Takes time to cook tasty meat pies.

LIBERATION OF UKRAINE – SECOND DAY QUITE CRUCIAL.
Russians had 800 wounded and killed in the 1st day (south front)
Two cauldrons with inside respectively 100 thousand and 50 thousand ukies forces are closing. Don’t poke the bear. All forces besieging the Donbass and all forces occupying Mariupol are almost surrounded. After two days of fighting.
https://southfront.org/mariupol-direction-donetsk-theater-first-consequences-of-russian-support/
Summary of ongoing battles.
https://southfront.org/russian-advance-in-ukraine-and-its-brief-analysis-by-igor-strelkov/
The most ferocious fighting is taking place on the axis Kharkow – Kiev (from the high places of ww2, the Russians will fight with rage in their hearts with the memory of the battles of their fathers). Russian paratroopers jumped on two airports 25 and 7 km from Kiev. They were cleared by columns arriving from Russia. Probably airborne reinforcements are arriving to encircle the Ukrainian forces in Kharkow and Kiev. Two new cauldrons will be created. In the south the Russians are pushing the fire to surround the Ukies in Odessa. Tonight or tomorrow all Ukies forces will be surrounded.
The Ukies will try to break away, but to go where? The challenge for the Russians will be to block them in the open country to avoid civilian casualties. The Ukies conscripts will surrender en masse. The Russians will do everything to avoid having to reduce these cauldrons (or pockets) by force. The Russian victory, which will be crushing, is already taking shape, but let’s not forget that this is war and that too many very brave men will die or be seriously wounded.
The nationalist battalions will fight to the last cartridge because they know that their only horizons are the Russian jails until the end of their days. They are currently entrenching themselves in buildings in Mariupol using civilians as shields. Maybe the Russians will lay siege to these places to avoid civilian casualties.
Well, I’m doing my best and I’ve already spent much time on it.
Thank you common man. Indeed, biggest problems will arise in cleaning part of the operation. I do not know how to prevent encircled Ukro forces from simply mingling with civilian populations in urban area. For Mariupol Nazis added bonus from doing that is putting in danger mostly pro-Russian population in Mariupol. Although jail until the end of day is a possibility for them, I believe not that many might even survive enounter with Chechens
I echo your fears and those of a few other posters here who have said the same thing. So far the fear seems to be justified and coming true in both Kiev and Kharkov Russian troops appear to be in or around city centers and yet Ukrops are no where to be found and are blending in trying to form a partisan force like WW2 as Kiev television has been broadcasting Molotov cocktail making guides to its citizens and exhorting citizens to go out and attack Russian forces with Molotovs. Who knows how many will suicidally follow this advice but unfortunately it seems the Nazi’s plan is to inflict as many civilian casualties on their own people as possible to force a NATO intervenion
But Putin warmed then about it. NATO is crazy anyway.
*He warned them about it .
You don’t think the locals have a score to settle. Mingle at your own risk.

The end of the war flies to Ukraine
On the personal order of the Head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Akhmatovia Kadyrov, 10,000 servicemen of the National Guard Troops of Russia/Rosgvardia across Chechnya to Ukraine.
Ramzan Kadyrov issued an official statement in which he stated that Chechen fighters would go to the “hottest spots” in Ukraine.
“If you really want to meet us, then you are welcome to meet us there with pleasure. We must be ready for anything to ensure the security of the Chechen people,” Kadyrov stressed.
Such units are also called “window – door”. This is a slang expression, it means that employees must clear buildings and operate in urban combat conditions.
Everyone knows Chechen fighters are the most feared on the planet. The sheer sight of them on battlefield will be greatly demoralizing to Nazi troops
Modern Cossacks.

Western backers will howl terribly about the humanitarian situation, although the responsibility for it will solely lie with themselves and the ukronazi junta they were backing for so long. They will level all sorts of new accusations against Russia. In this way they will try to draw out the situation for as long as possible to turn it around to their advantage.
Meanwhile, a small sitrep from Germany: The leadership of the supposedly pro-Russian, or not quite so anti-Russian party, the AfD (Alternative für Deutschland), is falling in line. They have released a statement that accuses Russia of a war of aggression and urges Russia to draw back its forces and return to the negotiating table. As if Russia had not already been waiting at the negotiating table for so many years. They have only about 10% of the voters but still, they seemed to be the last holdout of sanity. More ominously, there are credible reports about troop movements through Germany eastward. This channel has a video that shows a few vehicles at some place in the eastern state of Saxony:
https://t.me/s/freiesachsen
They write (in German) that such convoys heading eastward could be seen constantly and that combat helicopters also heading eastward could be seen too. Russia surely knows about it and will hopefully prepare accordingly.
There seems to be a war fever spreading. It all reminds of WWI.
Well, neonazis stick together. German and other countries neonazis have been going to Banderastan for some “sweet” frontline experiences in the last years. And no AfD is NOT the holdout of sanity, they are a neoliberal party which got to power riding the hate of foreigners per se (without any reflection, they never opposed any out-of-country deployment), and have a substantial backing in the german neonazi scene.
Zelesnky has to go. This guy has been thoroughly corrupted by the US and EU and is in no shape to lead anything anymore. Give him a one-way ticket out of town, for good, or arrest him.
“These forces could be easily and quickly moved inside the Western Ukraine to seize the Lvov and Ivano-Frankovsk regions. Best of all (for them) is that they can be pretty sure that the Russians won’t object.”
Really? I’m a long time reader here and this may just be the dumbest thing I’ve ever read on this site. It is one thing to argue that the Russians do not want to occupy Western Ukraine, but the notion that the Poles or anyone else should be seeing a green light to overtly move into Ukrainian territory is serious error. Didn’t Putin just throw down the nuclear threat against any outside power interfering? You saw some nuance in his warning against interference?
Any such move would immediately extend de-facto Article 5 protection to those area so occupied. This would provide a sanctuary for the CIA/MI6/Mossad to run an endless guerilla war against the Russians. My prediction is no such move is going to happen, but that if it did, the Russians would immediately retaliate and NATO would be at war with Russia.
I think the “demilitarization and denazification” strategy is a done deal. Zelensky is ready for talks about Ukraine’s “neutral status” w/Russia. The west and nato know that they are licked by the formidable/superior military tactical/strategic prowess/force of the Russian bear. It really is check mate! Hardcore skinheads will not mount up to anything.
Demitarization – the west and nato cannot push arms to or place missiles in Ukraine to threaten the 2 new republics and/or Russia.
Denazification – means parliamentarians and elected Ukrainian officials are free to serve the interests of Ukraine and its people as Ukronazis/Azov Battalion in the RADA are eliminated or neutralized.
The bear has applied “shock and awe” tactic well and effectively! It is a shakedown of most of the undesirable elements responsible for the destruction of a functioning Ukraine since the regime change of Yanukovich.
Salute to the Russians!
“Демитаризация – Запад и НАТО не могут поставлять оружие или размещать ракеты на Украине”
You are mistaken – a ban on the deployment of shock and defense-strike weapons, military and special equipment, military critical infrastructure, not only on the territory of the Ukrainian (conf) Federation, but throughout Western Europe.
Initially, within the 1997 NATO borders. That is, up to Austria and ex-FRG.
Ukraine “defense ministry” announced that any citizen without age restrictions may now be enlisted. Effectively, this is equivalent to volksturm, in fact the same.
Have to be honest. I really didn’t comprehend before, just how big this pile of cr*p place is. I feel really sorry for Russians having to go there since it’s impossible just to sink this place among the nazi inhabitants deep into the earth or something. No further words.

I really do not see the problem. Besiege the City and trade vodka, cigs and dope for weapons and ammo. Hand out free pornhub subscripions. By the end of the weekend they`ll take care of each other in there.
Invite a delegation of holocaust experts from israel, since though: all men must stay and fight – unless they are jews, thus not likely too many are left at this point – and give them the job of incinerating the cadavers. They are the Holocaust experts. And Holodomor too to think of it….
So let us get them involved again shall we?
What is the problem?
It is not so surprising, given that the war has it’s own dynamic. Also remember the westerners for the 500 years of rampage throughout the planet have behaved no better. None of this is shocking.

There is one honorable way for non Nazi Ukrainian soldiers and it is to live to fight another day. There is no honor in dying for Naziism.
A demoralized, angry, and now unemployed army could be a catalyst for real political change. Maybe leave them their rifles.
There is a lot of construction work and my bet is that our Chinese Brothers are just over the hill…feed those demobilized soldiers, treat them well and honorably, and pass out job applications…Chinese construction companies and Russian constructions companies and Ukrainian Construction companies…there’s a bonanza of rebuilding and development work…years of it…those boys will be buying new speed-boats in 5 years.

The new Ukrainian government would presumably have a strong police force and perhaps the equivalent of the National Guard, a semi-military organization. Kiev currently hasn’t much of either as it’s broke, but the Russian Federation could fund both for a friendly government.

Thanks, Cyril, for your reply.
I posted that comment in the context of Saker’s post re: a potential counterinsurgency at city level in Russian-occupied Ukraine. The lack of any security, police and otherwise, a vacuum occupied by Nazi gangs, would make cleansing Ukraine of Nazi scum a long-term security issue. Creating a new police force and security institutions would take time, developing loyalty to a new regime, would take even longer. Saker’s concern was for Russian troops to get bogged down in urban warfare a-la Mosul style, a losing proposition.
There will be many issues facing Russia in its campaign to clean Ukraine, however, denazification is cardinal to a new Ukraine.
Cheers.

Russia should immediately invade Kiev and decapitate the government and other power structures. Russia should not surround Kiev and hold it under siege for a long time. Bosnian Serbs could have ended the Bosnian war in the first year by decapitating the Sarajevo government, but because of politics they were not allowed and kept the city surrounded and under siege, the war last from 1992-1995.
The Bosnian Serbs never had the strenght to take Sarajevo. Serbs had 20000 soldiers holding a city in siege, that had 80000+ muslim soldiers in it. Only superior weapons and tactics hold the muslims trapped.
The Russians need to finish wathever they are doing as fast as possible, otherwise NATO will eventually intervene in some way, maybe by imposing a no fly zone over west Ukraine.
I seem to see that Ukrops still manage to shell Donetsk Lugansk today causing deaths and damage……any sign that they will directly targeted by planes as we have been told Ukr air defences were neutralised…and that Ukrops have already been told to lay down their arms- should there be a time limit on that??
The 53rd Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was formed from Donetsk and Luhansk military personnel.
The cunning and treacherous Putin moved the “armies” of the LDNR against them, the second day they are rapidly advancing – they advanced to meet the brothers by as much as 10 kilometers!
Again, “dogovornyaki”(agreements) went to the hochlo-russian-speakers.
There were no casualties, the damage was mostly eight years old.
Do not believe the propaganda from both sides. Especially from the former Ukr.SSR (including LDNR – according to fakes, they can give a thief to anyone))). Since the beginning of the conflict, the two sides have recorded the natural loss of power in the column “irretrievable losses” from military operations. The benefit is obvious and the first is the sums of money from the Moscow Region, the government.

…“The EU isn’t on board with removing Russia from SWIFT for one thing because the EU isn’t on board with letting go of Russian energy,” said Erik Meyersson, a Stockholm-based senior economist covering the Eurozone at Svenska Handelsbanken AB.
Europe’s reliance on Russian fuel was also in clear view when the U.S. Treasury said on Thursday that energy will be among areas exempted from the sanctions.

Serbian govrnment rejects to condemn Russia and impose sanctions. At the same time, it believes that violating Ukraina’s sovereignty is wrong.

1. Maybe tomorrow the Russian strikes will be stronger. Preferably Aviation Thermobaric Bomb of Increased Power (“Father of All Bombs”), when the ukronazis will move on roads outside settlements and will therefore be vulnerable. And what if the Ukronazis don’t understand in a good way? One of the representatives of the DPR-LPR on TV said that they would have to increase the power of the fire due to strong resistance.
2. I hope that Russia will mobilize not only in foreign, but also in domestic policy. There are also problems there – unprofessionalism of management, sloppiness and theft.
3. Thank you for having this and other analytics sites. In the online media – clickbait crafts of snappers in a hurry and fakes of propagandists. Messengers have a tiring shaft of low-quality information. All these smartphone shots of their feet in boots.

Thanks, Cyril, for your reply.
You’re welcome.
Yes, denazification would take time, especially in the courts. But unlike Iraq I doubt the cops would bog down, as they would be working for Ukrainians, not for hostile and abusive foreigners intent on stealing the county’s oil. The people would see that and wholeheartedly support the cops.
There will be many issues facing Russia in its campaign to clean Ukraine, however, denazification is cardinal to a new Ukraine.
Yes.
However, I would be careful to make two distinct groups with very different chains of command: a police force, and a separate National Guard. A single organization that had as much power as would be needed for denazification would likely become oppressive over time. If I were the new Ukrainian government, I would have to be very careful.
