That’s despite being considered a long shot for the powerful position

Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach has been appointed the new Chief of the Defence Staff, despite reportedly being considered a longshot for the powerful position.
His appointment to the British military’s top position was confirmed by David Cameron and the Queen within the last few days, The Times reported.
Anyone read this? It is quite interesting. Despite TheMoscowTimes, being a hysterically anti-Russian newssites, the article is quite good. And at a minimum contains useful information.
I kinda hope the article is true, that the Ukrainian situation is coming to and end now, one way or another.. That either Kiev will carry out the Minsk 2 agreement, granting Donbass broad autonomy which will remove the sanctions on Russia and prevent Ukraine from joining NATO — or more likely, Kiev will refuse to carry out the agreement, but Russia will then be able to say “We did all we could.” EU will agree and remove the crucial sanctions the conflict will go intio deep-freeze and Ukraine will be unable to join NATO.
And still more talk about the Ukraine situation coming to an end.
“Gryzlov’s visit to Kiev may indicate that the parties are close to an agreement. Under it Poroshenko will likely be expected to deliver the constitutional reform and enter into direct talks with the rebels in exchange for Russian help in facing down the domestic enemies. Whether the deal will be made and whether it will work remains to be seen.” http://russia-insider.com/en/politics/poroshenko-may-be-open-deal-moscow/ri12378
This is all just speculation; they have to write something.
As far as I am concerned, the only person who matters is biden – the self-proclaimed zionist – with the neocons, in line with PNAC.
So the USG will continue to keep the pressure on Russia, with sanctions; even if lifted, there will still be major pressure via the oil price, currency spec against the ruble etc.
Insofar as Ukraine is concerned, the USG has got into a mess…or rather, it has got the rest of Ukraine into a mess: the US can always leave.
porosh!tko has been stitched up, wittingly or not, but that doesn’t matter from the US side, he is expendable. He can’t give up the Donbass, because he is in the wrong part of the country, he will have to flee too, that is, if the USG doesn’t do a SH or Gaddafi on him.
The Donbass people have only 2 good choices: become independent with a defence treaty with Russia, or become part of Russia. So they MUST include this option to vote for when they (hopefully) vote in 2 month’s or so time.
If true that will be a deal breaker for me. As well as the many thousands of people Worldwide that have rallied to Russia’s defense,in a great part, because of the fascists in Ukraine. And Russia’s stance in support of Novorossia. Betrayal of that would be a slap in the face to us all. And Putin would lose support from most of those people. And I suspect from many inside Russia as well. I read a lot of posts by common people inside Russia. Granted most of them are from the 1/3 of Russians that are most supportive of Donbass. But that is a third of the Russian people, not a small number. Most of them support Putin. But that has a great deal to do with his stand on Ukraine. If he betrays those people ,he just made a third of his population unhappy with him automatically. Combine that with his other enemies. And unless he heavily rigs the elections he faces a real problem continuing in office. I find it hard to believe a smart politician would risk that. But it is possible of course. But most important would be ,he would throw away Russia’s security by doing that. Its a question of “short term results” versus “long term results”. Leaving the junta,a fanatically,Russophobic regime in power in Kiev.Assures that Russia will have endless trouble over treatment of ethnic Russians and pro-Russian people in Ukraine. As well as endless trouble over Crimea. That isn’t even a question to debate. Its purely a fact.As anyone watching what’s happening would have to be brain-dead (or lying) to dispute. Sooner, rather than later,Russia would be forced to fight back against a much stronger force. That they themselves would have allowed to be strengthened. And the Russian people would only have one target to blame for that,Putin. For someone that we all seem to think of as a shrewd political leader. I find it difficult to think he doesn’t see that. But if I’m wrong and he doesn’t. Then he would be shown to be the wrong person to rule Russia. We’ll see in the coming months if that is true or not.
I really cannot see the Ukrainians, despite all the anti-Russian sentiment in the junta controlled media, and in the fascist Right Sector, remaining content with the status quo.
They must know what a disaster the post-maidan government has been. The country is bankrupt.
It isn’t really a question of what the people or the Right Sector want; it is a question of what the controllers want. And that would be the US. Common people rarely have that much power. The few exceptions are largely when an outside force funds and provides the intel and muscle to change things. So far, Russia has been rather unwilling to get dirty inside Kiev – for better or for worse.
Unpopular regimes can last for decades, and, even then, they could be brought down by their controllers for other reasons. To put in a worse regime for example.
I believe the conflict only benefits the junta in power, peace would be the worse thing for them, then the popular anger of the Ukrainian people could no longer be distracted by war propaganda, and the sanctions on Russia would be removed.
The Ukrainian government wont remaine for long in power after the war is over.
Also Russia will flood Donbass with investment and money, to make sure it is the best part of Ukraine, and over the years, Donbass would begin to turn the tide of anti-Russian propaganda. Making Ukraine pro-Russian again.
It will be a deal breaker for you. But are you privy to the thinking of “the many thousands of people Worldwide that have rallied to Russia’s defense..”? You have concluded that it will also be a deal breaker for them.
You must also be privy to information which leads you to believe that President Putin has the ability and/or willingness to “heavily rig” the elections. Perhaps you could share your sources with us.
Concerning your question whether “President Putin has the ability and/or willingness to “heavily rig” the elections”.
First, quite clearly, Uncle Bob 1 did not at all say that Putin could/would that, he was merely sifting through various logical possibilities, to clarify the things.
As for actual facts in the past Russian elections, things were definitely not all lilly-white as imagined, quite an understatement. For instance, even the latest presidential elections, in March of 2012, had gross irregularities. To the point that in its aftermath, the second largest faction in Russian Duma, Zyuganov’s communists, officially rejected the results: “We do not acknowledge the elections, we consider them illegitimate, unfair and not transparent” ( http://kprf.ru/rus_soc/103690.html ). Things always tend to look so different from distance…
Thanks Sergey. I think sometimes people think that everything is monolithic in Russia. They tend to forget that in any great country (and among people in general) support for one person or the other is based on thoughts and actions. Two political parties that in most things are very different, the Liberal Democratic Party and the Communist Party seem to stand united on Ukraine. I remember being surprised (but also pleased) seeing both parties leaders on the platform of a rally supporting Donbass. When you have both sides of the political divide joined on an issue. I think that means that something very fundamental is at stake.
I find it hard to believe you would “even” question those points. But I guess it takes all kinds. If you read most of the comment sections on many of the alternative sites you’d see a great many posting about how much they support Putin “because” of his stand for Donbass. And many, many,Russian posters comment that they weren’t very supportive of him before. But now they do support him. Again for that same reason. What do you think they would think if he decided to screw them over. Use a bit of common sense. As for him having the ability to rig the elections. That is another point ,that really shouldn’t even need to be debated. We spend a lot of time here, and people do on other sites, talking about how elections are rigged in various countries. Open up you mind a little and you might not need “sources” to “prove” things that are just common sense. But just to start for you. Here are a few ideas. First, not allow certain candidates to run in an election. You could figure out excuses for that fairly easily. Second, not allowing the media to cover your opponents campaign. Or having “rumors” reported about them all over the media. Third, having certain ballot boxes get “lost”. Fourth, having your supporters doing the counting of votes. And those are only a few ways to rig elections. Someone “creative” could think of many more I’m sure. You may believe this is all a game being played. But I assure you it isn’t. Many people have died and lives ruined for their freedom in Donbass. Many people suffer daily because they supported Russia. And didn’t want to be ruled by nazis. Their lives are not mere pawns for any politician to play with. When that happens is when you see violence in the streets, and political assassinations happening.I believe (so far) and hope that those stories are Western propaganda and disinformation. But we’ll have to wait and see.
Hello, I do not believe it is as bad as you interpreted it, Donbass will gain broad autonomy, that will allow them to vote against Ukraine joining NATO or EU, Donbass will also get to keep their armies, so while Ukraine would regain control of Donbass it would not be in a military sense or even legal or political sense, Donbass would get to elect their own judges and own mayors and own leaders, they would just be inside Ukraine.
And this would only be the start, once there was peace, the anger inside Ukraine will turn on Porky, the Russian sanctions will be lifted, and the cultural war inside Ukraine would begin, as Donbass has broad autonomy it would be able to trade with whomever they wanted, Donbass would be a pro-Russian fortressed inside of Ukraine, and influence the political, social and cultural aspects in the country slowly turning the country more pro-Russian. Russia would also flood Donbass with money and investment to make sure it was the best part of Ukraine.
And the ideals of Novorossiya would spread throughout Ukraine, and without the war to blame all their misstakes on, people would get real angry with the authorities in Kiev. Give it 5-10 years and people in Southern Ukraine under the influence of pro-Russian fortress Donbass would begin to feel Novorossiya is quite an appealing suggestion.
That pre-supposes that Donbass gets the “autonomy” you talk about. Remember Crimea was “supposed” to have autonomy as well. Yet little bit by little bit Kiev gained more control over it. The likelihood is that even that “autonomy” will have “poison pills” in it. Like the officials must have Kiev’s approval to hold office. The oligarchs will come back. And as is said in the saying, “money talks,BS walks”. The SBU will be operating (somewhat freely, even if undercover) in Donbass. And you’ll start to see arrests under various pretexts and probably murders or “accidents” of NAF leaders that might not flee to Russia. The Ukrainians would be able to insert spies throughout, to influence peoples opinion. The media will come under Ukrainian control again. And the school system. Even if the Russian language is allowed. A fascist can preach anti-Russian propaganda in Russian as well as Ukrainian. The border brought back under Ukrainian control means a border military force controlling it (a Ukrainian force). It also means Ukraine decides what comes in it,or goes out it. Ukrainian fascist political parties will be back in Donbass. And over time (with plenty of Western cash, and propaganda) will gain a following in Donbass. As for Russia spending money in Donbass. They didn’t for years. And the Ukrainians would be the ones deciding who and where investments were made. Autonomy is not the same as independence. And only with “goodwill” on both sides can something like that work. I don’t see the goodwill on the junta side. They are still as I type murdering the people of Donbass.Without being able to insert those “poison pills” I talked about. I don’t see the junta agreeing to any peace there. And if Russia pushes Donbass to accept a peace with those “pills” then they are betraying the people of Donbass. Its as simple as that. There is no other adequate way to see it. So now you see why I oppose the idea of the Minsk 2. The Ukrainians are free to insert anything in their new “constitution” they want too. And say “we’ve given Donbass autonomy”, but not really doing it. Remember what the junta leader said earlier when talking about Donbass “We can promise them anything, and then we’ll hang them later”. Would you or I trust the words of a group like that. Its also important to remember this will be something like the third or fourth “constitution” Ukraine has had in the last 25 years. They have no problems with changing them when they want to. What is to prevent them from changing it again to do away with the autonomy promised. And as for that preventing them from joining NATO,I doubt that. The “rules” of NATO are what the US says they are. If the US “really” wants something NATO will change their rules to accommodate that. They haven’t before only because the issue wasn’t important enough to the US to make them. And we see in Montenegro that the “people” oppose NATO membership. But the regime is still going for it. And if NATO was concerned about what the “people” in those countries wanted. They would withdraw their offer to Montenegro. But they haven’t,because they don’t care.If the US wants the junta in NATO,NATO won’t care at all what Donbass wants. The “only” way autonomy or any true reintegration with “Ukraine” can come about is in a free liberated Ukraine (without the junta and fascists). I don’t see that in these Minsk plans. So the bottom line is,if those plans take effect,Russia,Donbass, and all Russian and Russian speaking Ukrainians have lost.
Liz: NO! NO! NO!!! The Donbass people can NOT trust kiev, at all, if ever, or at least for a very long time, not only because of the satanic puppet in power, but because the lying, treacherous and quite frankly murderous USG stands behind it. And add to that those brain dead zombies who consider the Donbass people Untermensch, with their genocidal, insane thoughts against them, not to mention outnumbering them.
The Donbass is no longer Ukraine; while Ukraine continues to die, the Donbass has been independently re-born.
When the zio-gay media (which Moscow times assuredly is) claim a major zionazi war campaign is winding down, expect an imminent escalation of that war. That’s how these war criminals operate. That’s their standard operating procedure.
the end of political democracy-if we have any left-
“The US Congress has mandated US intelligence services to carry out far-reaching investigations into activities of a number of European parties critical of EU and NATO policies.
The US suspects that these parties are supported by Russia which allegedly seeks to undermine NATO, stop the deployment of US missiles and revoke punitive sanctions against Russia imposed after Crimea’s secession from Ukraine, German newspaper Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten (DWN) wrote, referring to the British Telegraph.
“It really is a new Cold War out there. Right across the EU we are seeing alarming evidence of Russian efforts to unpick the fabric of European unity on a whole range of vital strategic issues,” an anonymous source told the Telegraph.
If the US comes to the “conclusion” that NATO is in danger, US authorities will act “in the interests of national security” and impose sanctions against the parties involved.
The newspaper referred to Michael Maier who described the consequences of such sanctions in his new book:
“The sanctions are a part of a global war in which the United States takes advantage of the role of the dollar as a world currency. Banks might be prohibited to make transactions with such parties. They could be banned from entry in the United States, while the assets of the parties or individuals collaborating with them could be frozen,” Maier wrote.
” The US Congress has mandated US intelligence services to carry out far-reaching investigations into activities of a number of European parties critical of EU and NATO policies”
Triple disinformation in one sentence:
1) The CIA needs nobody’s mandate.
2) The CIA doesn’t investigate. It infiltrates and takes over.
3) The CIA has infiltrated not only EU and NATO critical parties, but all parties.
An article here by Ash Carter in Politico Magazine.
http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/01/ash-carter-isil-fight-213554
Soldiers in the storied 101st Airborne Division will soon deploy to Iraq to join the fight against ISIL. They will head there with the support of the American people and armed with a clear campaign plan to deliver the barbaric organization a lasting defeat, which I personally shared with them last week at Fort Campbell. I also traveled to U.S. Central Command in Tampa, Florida, where I discussed the plan’s implementation with our top commanders. And this week I visited Paris, a city of determination and resolve, to discuss the plan with our allies.
Further on in the article, it looks as though Carter is putting together a coalition of the killing for a second world wide war on terra.
This deployment was scheduled last November and is a rotation — 82nd Airborne out of Ft Bragg will be coming home. Carter needs you to know that he’s traveling around “doing something.”
This edition of CrossTalk is quite informative; it is even more useful if you are paying attention to the major Zionist American propaganda Organs.
Twice in the “NY Times,” and in several places in the “Huffington Post,” including their yesterday’s Headline Article, are featured heavy personal attacks on Russia’s elected President, Vladimir Putin.
Putin, the leader of the most effective opposition to the Zionist American New World order, is being accused of Murder, repeatedly, Murder of, not only one political opponent, but a passel of them.
Two NYT examples today, to go with the Huffington headliner yesterday:
Pay attention here. Thank God for Peter Lavelle, although he should have found a way to include the significance of these virulent attacks by the imperialists, on their main enemy.
Imagine, the Zionist American murderers of millions, are accusing the Russian leader of the murder of 1, or maybe several of his opponents. The fact that Putin had no earthly reason to execute – already defeated – political opponents (5th column servants of the imperialists), who were already politically defeated, may be discussed, along with the minute details of which shooter actually executed John Kennedy, over Tea and Crumpets, in some other missive.
[All murder is wrong. Let us prioritize. We’ll start condemning the murderer/s of millions – First. Then, after they are found and convicted, we may discuss the murders of a -mere- 1 to a few.]
Pay attention: The Vital Points are:
1. These all-out and personal attacks against Vladimir Putin were not exceeded in fury or hatred by any measure by any Allied media attacks on Adolph Hitler during World War II. The democrat-liberal ‘moderate’ “Huffington Post,” has repeatedly labeled Putin, “Thug.”
2. By attacking Russia’s elected president -thusly, the imperialist Zionist American Oligarchs are labeling all Patriotic Russians, “Thugs.” Worse, They are declaring Endless war – (to the death), against the Russian People, and against all their allies.
3. Sadly, these personal attacks against Russia’s leader have not been answered – by the Russian leaders revealing the secret crimes of the Zionist imperialists. Such As:
a. Their murder of JF Kennedy and their coup d’etat in Dallas.
b. Their murder of Robert Kennedy, ML King, Malcolm X, Fred Hampton, John Lennon, 3000 at The World Trade Center on 9/11, etc..
c. The imprisonment or forced exile of all political (and still breathing) opponents of the Oligarchs.
d. The American Gulag, from Guantanamo, to the dozens of concentration camps, to the 2 million Americans residing in the nation’s prisons.
e. The fact that the Zionists are carrying out a program of Liquidation and Dispersal of all Arabs in the Middle East, with the goal of establishing a Greater Judah. Call it Genocide, and, or, Culturcide, and, or, a Holocaust-in process, if you will.
f. A listing of all international Leaders who have been exterminated by the Zionist Anglo Americans, such as Patrice Lumumba, and thousands of others.
g. The Indonesian Massacres-1965 (one million).
ghij…Vietnam, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, Guatemala, Yugoslavia, – You finish the list.
4. Next to face imperialist IMF chopping block will be -Greece. Despite the weakness of its current leaders, Greece’s mere existence blocks Turkey and NATO (think about it).
In Conclusion: Actually there is no Conclusion: Unfortunately:
The War is on! It will be long and hard. It cannot be won, if we attempt to bury this war under the rug of our consciousness.
The attacks on Putin by the imperialists are not those emanating from any power or entity that is willing, or capable of, negotiating in good faith.
By sending their Air Corps to Syria, the brave Russian Leaders have saved Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, and Egypt from the genocidal goal of the Zionist Expansionists (they have utterly blocked them – look at a map). The Russian’s may even have saved the Palestinian People (I wrote, “may”). The Nazis in Kiev are outflanked; if Syria is saved, they will eventually rejoin their Mother Russia (which was born in Kiev).
The Bottom right hand corner; those Ron Paul people are the finest in America. They are Fucking Awesome.
I do not know if the Russian Leaders saw the total import of their rescue of Syria. Possibly, they believed they could use it as a bargaining chip to buy them some peace. No! It is not likely the Russian Leaders, after all they have experienced, and all the bitter humiliations, and hurt they have suffered, could be that illusory. If you read the imperialist media, the Zionist Americans, and their puppets everywhere, Kieven Zio-Nazis, Turkish Fascists, America’s democraps and republicains, socialist imperialists such as Hollande, and Sanders, know that the die is cast. The Zionist American Caesars overthrew the Republic; Listen! they overthrew the Republics throughout Europe Latin America, and Africa. And there will be hell to pay!
After reading this link – about what happened to Gaddafi’s female bodyguards following the NATO attack – I believe an international war crimes trial is imperative.
For the politicians and others that organized this atrocity .
Hillary Rodham Clinton is a war criminal on par with Hitler. Really .
Now I see the Brutish, sorry British general who led the Libya attack has just been appointed head of the armed forces in Britain.
The “west” has a lot to answer for. For centuries they have been parasites upon the rest of the world, advancing and maintaining their “civilization” at the expense of the peoples of Africa, Latin America, India, the middle east, etc. America was built on the backs of the African slaves transported to the “new world” to slave away and die on the plantations, after the genocide of the native Americans by the European settlers.
None of this they want to admit as they laud their much vaunted “European cultural values” and sneer at other races for being “backward” and “uncivilized”. The prune faced gnome Sarkozy was the first to launch airstrikes against Ghaddafi and led the minions of satan in the destruction of Libya.
They have long sown the seeds of their own eventual destruction and as far as I am concerned it couldn’t happen quickly enough. The west deserves every single thing that is coming its way for the deaths of untold millions of people they have been responsible for around the world in their insatiable and moronic greed and lust for world supremacy. I read the interview of the girl imprisoned in Libya under NATOs jihadi scum and was shocked to the bone. I even remembered reading in the western presstitute at the time about Ghaddafi giving out Viagra to his troops in order for them to carry out rapes against women, I never believed it at the time but now I do believe it was NATO handing out the Viagra to their proxies to carry out the raping as they always accuse their victims of what they are themselves are doing, sick twisted evil scum they are.
I pray for the day London, Berlin, Paris, Warsaw, etc. will also look like Homs and Allepo do now, like Mosul or Tirkrit do now, like Bengazi does now, just piles of rubble and empty husks of buildings. What goes around always comes around. The west has sown the wind and shall reap the whirlwind.
Wonderful. Support for yet more rape, torture, suffering and murder. Support for ever more destruction. Is there never enough? What barbarous intellect this reveals. Repulsive.
Away with this promotion of hatred, violence, destruction and killing.
You might have a different “take” on it if you were from one of the places destroyed by the West. Theoretically, you are right. But in the real world, not so much. Usually the “holier than thou” people think your way when thinking about the pain coming to “them”. But seem to have less of a problem ,when the “pain” is delivered to others.
Uncle Bob 1, that disappointing response does not justify yet more rape, torture, suffering and murder. In essence your argument is that promotion/encouragement of rape, torture, suffering and murder is acceptable since it has been occurring in the historic past and in the present times. Therefore it is moral and acceptable to promote more of the same because you are on the “right” side. There has been enough of that nonsense already.
This irrational lust for “pain” inflicted upon myriads of people is not justifiable or defensible. You would be well advised to desist from this and think again. Remember this is about real living people.
Siotu
Uncle Bob’s post didnot justify anything as you state. Please no attacking other commenters. This conversation needs to be closed down.Mod TR
Peter. Is the same old game as with Iraq, Libya, Syria. They started demonizing their leaders to justify military intervention. There is no risk of a direct military attack on Russia (my bet) since Russia is a real military power and the “coalition of this or that” too coward to face Russia. Attacks (against Putin) occurred before but diminished somewhat due to the EU became paralyzed by the influx of refugees, now they start again but keep this in mind; as soon as the next terrorist action in EU country occurs by some “refugee/s” these attacks will cease again. Europeans (my impression) at this time care less and less about these “news” due to anxiety concerning the nature of the arrived and incoming refugees.
“There is no risk of a direct military attack on Russia (my bet) since Russia is a real military power and the “coalition of this or that” too coward to face Russia. ”
You are 100% right on the above statement. Before president Putin ordered the intervention in Syria on behalf of president Assad the wests numerous “think tanks” and “intelligence analysts” (a misnomer if ever there was one as they are all actually incredibly stupid) had Russia down as a third rate military power with rust bucket ships and military equipment so imagine their complete shock and utter horror at the display of Russian military capabilities (cruise missiles, submarine launched cruise missiles, etc.) when president Putin demonstrated to the inhuman scum that Russia too could do “shock and awe”.
Wasn’t it that senile old fool McCain who “guaranteed” that Russia wouldn’t intervene in Syria ? Tells you a lot about their level of utter stupidity and hubris. And as for the influx of refugees this was originally meant to scare the European population into sanctioning an outright invasion of Syria and killing of president Assad to “stop the flow of refugees” of course, but then president Putin sussed what they were up to and ordered the Russian air force into Syria putting a stop to their plans. Now they are stuck with the refugees and don’t know how to proceed any longer without risking open war with Russia. Vile scum is what they are and they all deserve to be hanged for crimes against humanity just like the Nazis were because that is exactly what they are, Nazis.
Agree. What happened here is that Europeans quite soon became aware that many, maybe majority of refugees were actually not from Syria but from Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan so Europeans even the most stupid began to wonder how come that refugees were coming from these countries previously “liberated” by the NATO? Then even in spite of all MSM lies to add to the confusion, many started to realize that Turkey had more than friendly connections with the IS. This was even acknowledged by the media in Norway (Stoltenbergs home).
It is clear since at least the end of WWII that a change in rhetoric from official U.S. does not signify a change in position. The agenda for Syria has not changed in the slightest. It remains:
1. Destroy Assad.
2. Destroy the Syrian government.
3. Balkanize the country.
4. Repeat the above steps as needed and where needed in the Middle East.
The suggestion on CrossTalk that the U.S. is unable to control its friends is rubbish. The U.S. does not accept real independence of thought and action from anyone, not from foes and certainly not from friends. When a friend says or does something out of step with U.S. rhetoric du jour and gets away with it, what we see is the difference between the soft rhetoric and the hard position of the U.S.
Syria’s enemies clearly will not bargain in good faith. The best thing that Russia, Syria et al can do at the talks is drag the talks out over trivia like the shape of the negotiating table while seizing and holding militarily all of Syria’s territory. The only solution for Syria is the military solution.
I have to say, I agree with this dour prognosis.
The imperial pattern in the MENA has been clear and consistent from the beginning. Plan A: Maintain direct control over “mandates” (Britain, France, Italy). Plan B: Pit in place proxies who will do the Western power’s bidding (USA having more or less taken over from Britain and France as the Western power player). Plan C: Maintain fragmentation of larger regions. Plan D. Institute refragmentation where necessary to maintain control, by destroying secular “regimes” (i.e., governments) and creating local sectarian conflicts to make the country ungovernable.
Like in Chechnya, Syria will have to be cleansed. There is no negotiating with Zion. They understand only one thing annihilation . It is like trying to negotiate with cancer cells in a terminally ill patient. Can’t be done.
Yes,I constantly hear that only a political settlement will work. I don’t believe that. Only a military victory will bring on a political settlement. You have to defeat the terrorists so badly that the non-violent opposition will be able to break free of them to negotiate. Otherwise you can’t have peace. A “truce” maybe, but not peace. Can anyone point to another war in history that was settled without one side winning it. Leaving one side in possession of their armaments. And undefeated only leads to more war. I really can’t even think of why our side doesn’t know that. As horrible as this war is,it is Chechnya writ large. Until Russia had defeated the terrorists they weren’t able to bring them to peace. Assad needs to find the least violent of the opposition groups. Convince their leader to come over to him (as Putin need with Kadyrov). And destroy the rest of the terrorists if he wants to see peace.
I have watched the Cross Talks on TV and as some of you put it,there is no other solution than a military one but make no mistake, that is not the way what Russia has chosen,is the way what the Western Coalition has chosen. They want now the entire NATO to intervene in Iraq and Syria, you all are certainly aware of the fact that the NATO has sent AWACS planes into Turkey. For what reasons when ISIS has no planes at all ? against whom ? you know the answer. In the western television channels, when it comes to Syria, there is a totally lack of information on the successes of the Syrian-Russian led coalition forces, even worst, the Russians are bombing and killing civilians on daily basis.
Is that a friendly approach ? and Mr Kerry is speaking otherwise in Davos, even promising a lift of sanctions against Russia “in months”in the case of Donbass. The vermin is on his tongue.I wonder how long will the President of Russia tolerate this.Just and interesting info : yesterday a russian flying squadron wanted to participate in an air-show in Bahrain but at halfway they had to return home because the Iranians did not allowed them to fly over the Iranian airspace. The rest I don’t want to speculate.
The Anglo-Zionist Empire may have been willing to compromise on things, but the positions are too far apart. The West wants some version of the neocon/Yinon/whatever map. In other words, a totally redrawn Middle East. Russia finds that prospect terrible. So a compromise would have been breaking Syria into three pieces instead of five. But Russia and Iran don’t want that. So war it is.
For that matter, it is Russia that has challenged US domination of the world. This was a choice. One that may make the world a better place, but more Russia’s choice than the US’s. The US was quite happy with the status quo of fifteen years ago.
Russian TV Presenter Accused Of Incitement In Germany
A Berlin-based correspondent for Russian state television finds himself accused of incitement after reporting about migrants allegedly gang raping a 13-year-old girl.
Ivan Blagoy reported on Russia’s Channel 1 that the Russian-German girl was kidnapped at Berlin’s Mahlensdorf train station on her way to school, driven to an apartment, and raped and beaten over the course of 30 hours.
German media also reported on the case, but Blagoy’s report claimed police had refused to launch criminal proceedings in an attempt to cover up the case, and quoted the teen’s uncle as saying police had pressured the girl to say the sex was consensual.
To Berlin-based lawyer Martin Luithle, Blagoy’s coverage was a reckless attempt to incite fear and hatred against migrants among Germany’s 6 million Russian speakers, and is punishable under German law.
” We are outraged by Washington’s decision to withdraw the accreditation of five of the six honorary consuls of the Russian Federation in the United States, ” said Friday the spokewoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zajárova
According to the spokeswoman of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the US measure It is the continuation of the policy of the administration of US President Barack Obama, intended to limit ties with Russia.
Similarly, he accused the American “security services” of conduct “provocations against workers in Russian diplomatic missions, not just in the United States.”
The US government closed five of six Russian honorary consulates in the states of California, Utah, Minnesota, Florida and Puerto Rico.
I am astounded.
What is the “reasoning” here?
And if the USA and Britain want to harp on Litvishenko (sp?), why doesn’t someone bring u the many assassinations and “renditions” by the USA?
Why doesn’t someone suggest invading the USA because govt officials willfully poisoned citizens by piping polluted, lead-laden water into their homes, and militias are lawlessly occupying federal lands and desecrating Native American sites and artifacts?
Why is this always so bleeping one-sided?
Is it time to eject from Russia all American “diplomats” and “businessmen” and impound their accounts, etc.?
Why doesn’t Assad immediately call out the Americans for an illegal incursion into Syrian territory? Or, has he, and no one noticed or reported, as in the past?
We are living in a sea of lies. Thank God for Lavelle, at least.
I think Top Left had it all wrong. I have to say that the Rand Paul fellow was making the most sense.
Another thing: What is the Great Power talk? Why should “great powers” have the right to dictate what occurs in a fairly politically sophisticated Syria (as compared to KSA, which is the most backward political entity in the whole region)? Furthermore, the idea of the KSA having a place at a table decideding anything to do with what happens, politically, in Syria is a very bad joke.
Please explain, How does the USA and Russia sitting down to decide what happens in Syria differ from the original Great Power deals prior to WW! and then formalized in the Mandate system? Russia should fight the rebels into the dirt, disarm all accept the Syrian Army, re-arm the Syrian army and install plenty of advisers there, and then, maybe, there is an election. Its timing predicated on the stipulations of the Syrian constitution and on the bedrock premise that Assad is the legal head of the Syrian government.
I just don’t buy any of this “talks” nonsense that takes place over the head of the actual legal head of the government. Has Assad agreed to the “talks”? Will he be present at the “talks”? Or, what am I missing here? What do KSA and, actually, Iran have to do with the political process in Syria?
These “talks’ sound to me like a major inroad on the very concept of Syrian sovereignty and no one who stands for Syrian sovereignty should stand for the idea of the “talks.” Thus, I have to agree with those w ho say: First, military victory. Then we’ll see.
The answer may be found in statements today by the US. They are saying “that if peace talks fail. The US and Turkey will mount a war in Syria against ISIS”.So of course they want the talks to fail. Its “past time” for the Syrian government to announce that a Turkish or US intervention inside Syria will be an act of war against Syria. And responded to in that manner. The “absolute” worse policy for Syria to follow is allowing the West to trample on their sovereignty unopposed. If a country is going to be defeated,at least fight back. Don’t just let the aggressor destroy you as a helpless victim.
Katherine, it is really quite easy to understand: the West has become so corrupt, or rather far worse, quite simply evil, and the fact is that this evil resides in the corridors of Western power (not to say evil doesn’t exist elsewhere, but that it is manifest so much more in the Western sphere), with their control and the Wall Street, Washington DC nexus. All of the MSM is controlled and perverted by these insanely evil people, hence their lies presented as the truth. Yes, it is this bad.
The US has been blundering around like a headless chicken since Russia made its move into Syria, but it now looks like the hot war enthusiasts in the US have hatched a plan.
Carter said the other day that the 101st airborne would be going into Syria and it now looks like Turkey will also move into Syria in a joint move with the US.
Seems this is a deployment rotation and was announced last Nov. I read several current news articles about the 101 deployment, and not one of them explained this. So, was Ash Carter’s news release/announcement intended to be misleading? I always wonder these days. Maybe he just wanted me to think he’s “doing something.”
Barzani, Carter, Erdogan and Nutty have decided to create a Greater ‘Kurdistan’ as the means to control the main oil/gas hubs.
No doubt a Great Water Project is planned to divert from Syria and into Israel too.
That’s why Turkey is now attacking the Turkish Kurds in the South-East – they are being coralled into Syria/Iraq to this end, and the PKK (Marxist) are scheduled for elimination.
The rogue element is the YPD.
Will they ally with the PKK and Assad for autonomy with sovereignity intact, or will they ally with Barzani for the carve-up of Syria/Iraq?
The level of corruption in KRG is so bad -100billion in ten year and still no reliable electricity for Iraqi Kurds – a delegation to the US was recently refused a 2billion aid request.
So there is no real Washington consensus: this looks like a neo-con adventure with Pentagon placemen acting as facilitator.
The question is, what internal opposition in the US might do to undermine the insanity and greed.
A desperate move by Erdogan to stop Kurdish territorial gains
How will Russia respond?
With peace negotiations to begin next week, and with almost no bargaining chips left to play with, Erdogan has decided to send Turkish forces into Syria.
Turkey has seized the ISIS-controlled town of Jarabulus, but faced no resistance, according to reports:
Eyewitnesses to the incursion reported that the Turkish forces have not encountered any resistance from ISIS fighters in the area. These reports once again raise the question of possible collaboration between Turkey and ISIS aimed at halting the advance of the Kurdish militias in north SyriaTurkey has seized the ISIS-controlled town of Jarabulus, but faced no resistance…
But the big question now is: How will Russia respond? According to Stratfor, Russia has agreed not to interfere:
According to Stratfor sources, Russia and the United States have discussed the plan, and Russia has agreed not to obstruct Turkey’s efforts so long as Ankara does not try to expand the buffer zone to the Mediterranean Sea — a stipulation Turkey has reportedly acquiesced to. Our sources also said liaison officers from Turkey, Russia and the United States will coordinate with one another to prevent cases of accidental fire or, in the event that they do occur, to avoid any escalation between Turkish and Russian forces.
I don’t understand this. I thought it was crucial for the Syrians to seal the border with Turkey, for obvious reasons.
Why in the world would Russia agree to NATO forces establishing a presence–using the Turks!–that effectively ruins the strategy of maintaining Syrian unity and not allowing for a possible fragmentation of it? Don’t the Russians get it? Don’t they yet get that you cannot trust the US and NATO? Next I suppose that NATO-Turkish ground troops will be there permanently and perhaps even construct a base there. Don’t they understand that their fundamental long-term strategies are incompatible? Or are they? Why are the Russians letting the Turks prevent that the two Kurdish forces unite at the Syrian border?
“Why in the world would Russia agree to NATO forces establishing a presence–using the Turks!–that effectively ruins the strategy of maintaining Syrian unity and not allowing for a possible fragmentation of it?”
I have just read the article, posted 3 hours ago, in which the lugubrious Sergei Lavrov states categoreically, for the record, that Russias fight with ISIS will continue until the Annihilation of the the ISIS mercenary force is accomplished. Yet Russia in effect agrees to the Turks invading their ally to set up a “buffer” zone (read ISIS safe haven) at Jarabulus, in Syria. Why did the Syrian government not veto this outrage? Why is Turkey not setting up the safe haven for its terrorists on Turkish soil? Something very, very, wrong here.
Look at the source – “According to Stratfor sources” – stop believing anything from a US Government backed source. They are known for being an insider CIA mouth piece.
Who are they to speak on behalf of Russia? – let’s get it direct from Russia.
Turkey is lawless and Russia and Syria will not accept Turkey having anything in Syria – this is the US/dream of a buffer zone. What it exposes is that Turkey is in bed with ISIS – just being able to apparently stroll in and no fight?
The Russians are very shrewd – they will pick their time to deal with this.
Syrian Peace Will Be Decided on the Battlefield, Not in Vienna
January 22, 2016 (Tony Cartalucci – NEO) – The much lauded “peace deal” regarding Syria upon even a cursory examination reveals nothing more than the reiteration of Western demands versus a reassertion of Syrian defiance.
Fully defeating the West’s proxies on the battlefield, securing Syria’s borders, and creating a military deterrence to prevent direct Western military intervention – which includes further incursions into Syrian and Iraqi territory by Turkey, Israel, or any other Western proxy in the region, are the only conditions from which any “peace deal” can then be struck with the West.
Thanks for link.
What Cartalucci says is what any clearly-thinking person can see.
I am sure that Putin and his strategists see this clearly.
I am surprised at the apparent consensus of the CrossTalk crowd that the Great Powers have any business whatsoever in Syria.
Elections are Syria’s business.
Winning the war is the business of Syria and its allies only, and no one else.
The USA et al. are using a “peace card” to pretend to have a role in deciding what happens within Syria snd give themselves an excuse to make more trouble. Also, to try to shove some influence in the direction of their regional proxies such as the KSA. To string things out and try to put a negative spin on continuing legitimate actions to clear the Syrian ground of all combatants except the Syrian army and its Russian allies.
I.e., these so-called “peace” talks may well be used to hamper the actual war effort.
So, I hope Russia only “pretends” to participate (just as the USA et al. “pretend” to want peace).
Furthermore, I strongly suggest that some international players—Russia, China, some Russian NGOs, etc.—announce that they are convening a conference to discuss what can be done about some of the challenges to “civil society” in the USA. Such as as the high percentage of incarceration, the poisoning of the citizens of Flint, Michigan, by means of poisoning their water supply, and the corruption in the financing of elections.
Then we would see who expects always to be the “parent” and who expects the rest of the world to be the “child.”
i am not afraid of Turkey,NATO & US entering Syria… because with russian NO fly zone they will have to fight with SAA on the ground. if they have *cojones*. but i doubt. russians will not make concession to US.
I’m sorry to break it to you folks, but Ukraine, Iran (and NO! Peter! It doesn’t matter how many Cross-Talk episodes you do about this to make peeps believe this is the relevant topic at this particular moment in time…), Syria… nor even Russia at this point: non of them are relevant in terms of current-event news. No.
The spotlight [for all the wrong reasons] is on Europe. Period.
But hey! Non the less: this is a fascinating phenomena to witness; when both the presstitue MSM (because for them: it’s always a good day to bury bad news) but also the so-called “alternative media” both seems to agree in this particular instance, when something is deemed ‘inconvenient’ enough, it gets swept the carpet because…
…seriously! Who needs this type of aggravation in their lives?
In the alternative media case; it’s because they’ve already made their stance as pro-Muzzie, pro-rapefugee, anti-western, anti-women… and now: daw! Aren’t they cute?
They can’t back down form such a ludicrous stance! DAaaww! (You oughta feel for them! )
To the point we even have someone the high-caliber of Lavelle actively shunning the biggest story since the beginning of this current year. He’s going all fingers in his ears and shouting: La-La-La-Iran-La-La-La-Saudis-La-La-LaaaaAAAAH!
Then they have the nerve to go on…. and on… and on… about MSM and/or western hypocrisy!
I would be funny… if it wasn’t so depressingly sad.

“Russia Pushing for An Endgame in Ukraine”
http://www.themoscowtimes.com/news/article/russia-pushing-for-an-endgame-in-ukraine/556437.html
More talk that the Ukrainian situation is coming to an end.
http://www.dw.com/en/kerry-hints-at-lifting-of-sanctions-on-russia/a-18999469
And even more talk.
“Sanctions against Russia could be lifted in ‘next months’ – Kerry”
https://www.rt.com/news/line/
And still more talk about the Ukraine situation coming to an end.
“Gryzlov’s visit to Kiev may indicate that the parties are close to an agreement. Under it Poroshenko will likely be expected to deliver the constitutional reform and enter into direct talks with the rebels in exchange for Russian help in facing down the domestic enemies. Whether the deal will be made and whether it will work remains to be seen.”
http://russia-insider.com/en/politics/poroshenko-may-be-open-deal-moscow/ri12378
You make a fair case.
But it assumes the junta will remain in power.
I really cannot see the Ukrainians, despite all the anti-Russian sentiment in the junta controlled media, and in the fascist Right Sector, remaining content with the status quo.
They must know what a disaster the post-maidan government has been. The country is bankrupt.
We’ll see what happens.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Iran get a foothold there – the Donbass militias and the IRG would have much in common to discuss.
Michael
@ mjm
Liz
When the zio-gay media (which Moscow times assuredly is) claim a major zionazi war campaign is winding down, expect an imminent escalation of that war. That’s how these war criminals operate. That’s their standard operating procedure.

The subject of the investigation will be Euro-sceptic parties in France, the Netherlands, Hungary, Austria and the Czech Republic. The inquiry is designed to find out whether Russia is trying to undermine the “political cohesion” in Europe.
The American initiative occurred after Marine Le Pen’s French party the National Front received a nine million-euro loan from a Russian bank in 2014.

Triple disinformation in one sentence:

2) The CIA doesn’t investigate. It infiltrates and takes over.
3) The CIA has infiltrated not only EU and NATO critical parties, but all parties.

Two NYT examples today, to go with the Huffington headliner yesterday:
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/22/world/europe/alexander-litvinenko-poisoning-inquiry-britain.html?ref=todayspaper And, in the editorial section:
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/22/opinion/mr-putin-and-the-poisonous-london-tea-party.html?ref=todayspaper
For the Democratic Republics!
Peter,
After reading this link – about what happened to Gaddafi’s female bodyguards following the NATO attack – I believe an international war crimes trial is imperative.
For the politicians and others that organized this atrocity .
Hillary Rodham Clinton is a war criminal on par with Hitler. Really .
Now I see the Brutish, sorry British general who led the Libya attack has just been appointed head of the armed forces in Britain.
Another war criminal.
Read it and disseminate it.
https://libyanfreepress.wordpress.com/2012/04/11/shocking-interview-with-a-girl-who-had-escaped-from-tripoli-prison/
Siotu
Katherine
“The only solution for Syria is the military solution.”
Truer words have not been spoken.
Agreed.

Ivan Blagoy reported on Russia’s Channel 1 that the Russian-German girl was kidnapped at Berlin’s Mahlensdorf train station on her way to school, driven to an apartment, and raped and beaten over the course of 30 hours.
http://www.rferl.org/content/russian-tv-presenter-accused-of-incitement-in-germany/27505716.html
“Russia expresses its outrage at close its consulates in the US”
http://hispantv.com/newsdetail/Rusia/202239/rusia-indignado-cierre-consulados-eeuu
Possession is nine tenths of the law. I think that is how the saying goes.

Katherine
These idiots are going to try to use Turkey against Russia in Syria: Testing, testing, one, two, three.
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-35391968
The US has been blundering around like a headless chicken since Russia made its move into Syria, but it now looks like the hot war enthusiasts in the US have hatched a plan.
Carter said the other day that the 101st airborne would be going into Syria and it now looks like Turkey will also move into Syria in a joint move with the US.
Article I read said Carter announced 1800 of 101 Airborne would soon be deploying to Iraq, so I went and found this:
http://www.armytimes.com/story/military/careers/army/2015/11/06/101st-airborne-deploy-iraq-kuwait/74761852/
I am seeing definite cracks.
Sorry, what is YPD and what is KRG?
Katherine
Katherine,
YPG – sometimes YPD – are theSyrian Kurd Peoples Militias.
KRG is Kurdistan Regional Government, in Northern Iraq.

=====================
Someone knowledgeable, please explain…
There is a possibility that it is NATO/Turkey who are being played.
The SYG (Syrian militia) are a rogue element as far the Zionist’s ambitions are concerned.
“Why in the world would Russia agree to NATO forces establishing a presence–using the Turks!–that effectively ruins the strategy of maintaining Syrian unity and not allowing for a possible fragmentation of it?”
The answer is simple. They didn’t.
Comment at Russia Insider
I have just read the article, posted 3 hours ago, in which the lugubrious Sergei Lavrov states categoreically, for the record, that Russias fight with ISIS will continue until the Annihilation of the the ISIS mercenary force is accomplished. Yet Russia in effect agrees to the Turks invading their ally to set up a “buffer” zone (read ISIS safe haven) at Jarabulus, in Syria. Why did the Syrian government not veto this outrage? Why is Turkey not setting up the safe haven for its terrorists on Turkish soil? Something very, very, wrong here.
Exactly
Look at the source – “According to Stratfor sources” – stop believing anything from a US Government backed source. They are known for being an insider CIA mouth piece.
Who are they to speak on behalf of Russia? – let’s get it direct from Russia.
Turkey is lawless and Russia and Syria will not accept Turkey having anything in Syria – this is the US/dream of a buffer zone. What it exposes is that Turkey is in bed with ISIS – just being able to apparently stroll in and no fight?
The Russians are very shrewd – they will pick their time to deal with this.
“The Russians are very shrewd – they will pick their time to deal with this.”
Lets hope that time isn’t “when hell freezes over”.
Fully defeating the West’s proxies on the battlefield, securing Syria’s borders, and creating a military deterrence to prevent direct Western military intervention – which includes further incursions into Syrian and Iraqi territory by Turkey, Israel, or any other Western proxy in the region, are the only conditions from which any “peace deal” can then be struck with the West.
http://landdestroyer.blogspot.mx/2016/01/syrian-peace-will-be-decided-on.html
Katherine
i am not afraid of Turkey,NATO & US entering Syria… because with russian NO fly zone they will have to fight with SAA on the ground. if they have *cojones*. but i doubt. russians will not make concession to US.

“[..] And while European leaders introduce stricter measures to deal with offending asylum seekers, many are questioning the wisdom of the policies that brought them there.
