This territory has never been in the hands of the Islamic State, deputy chief of the Russian General Staff Andrey Kartapolov points out
It is not in our rules to advise colleagues on where to deliver their airstrikes. However, on October 11, near the settlement of Tel-Alam, the coalition’s jets destroyed by airstrikes a thermal power plant and transformer substation,” he added. As a result, hospitals and schools in Aleppo were left without electricity. Water pumping stations and sewage also stopped working which can be very harmful in the conditions of high temperatures.
ok, now at 7:07 minutes the MSM neo-con shows his ugly face. I wish he’d stayed in bed and not come to the program. I wonder why these guys do come to Peter LaVelle’s program…? To get laughed at ?
I’m not fully sure I can continue to watch…he’s called Assad a dictator..I just can’t stand the lies….
I’m no expert in body language but watch the eyes. The two guys from London look more or less straight ahead. The LA guy’s eyes are shifting as if accessing internalized talking points : If someone says A, then do x.
LOL Peter LaVelle dispensed with the Neo con quite well! Sometimes, Mr. LaVelle is a bit too strident for me. But this time he was absolutely perfect. Especially when he said, this isn’t BBC where you can throw around those (propaganda talking points) terms withou being challenged.
Good episode!
Hi O’Coner, I actually think that sometimes Peter Lavelle is tired…he works really hard I think. These programs are every couple of days, and they must take alot of work to get on the air…someone has to call all the guests and ask them…perhaps this is done by staff, but I think Peter really is the strong man in the room as far as these shows go…and he has no shame…which is delightful because he stands by his own principles…which are as you say…don’t let the propaganda have a place on this show…that’s his meme…
One is reminded of the Monty Python skit phrase “Spot the Looney”.
I suppose that Lavelle and his producers select such contrarian guests just to keep the rhetorical pot boiling– what Lavelle sometimes calls “a lively discussion”, although he often seems to become genuinely incensed.
Sometimes the conventional/mainstream Western Empire/Establishment defender is merely smug and supercilious, but “[putative] International Relations Expert Philippe Assouline” is more of an “angry young man” type who attempts to dominate the discussion by means of aggressive, bumptious bluster.
They seem to believe that shrill self-righteousness is the preferred rhetorical approach to “win” the debate. There was a similar would-be firebrand on recently– can’t remember his name offhand– who thundered in an incongruously personal way that he would never, never! accept Assad as a legitimate head of state!
I certainly don’t claim to know for certain why these Looneys appear on the show, but I reckon that “ego” has something to do with it. They remind me of certain “trollish” commenters who zealously hijack Internet comments forums in order to “set the record straight” regardless of how obnoxiously absurd their comments are.
“Ideology” is also a catalyst; the Looneys are usually True Believers convinced of the superiority of their positions and analyses. Again, I’m not certain of this, but I believe that such characters are incapable of feeling humility or embarrassment when they are handily refuted and generally beaten like gongs.
My guess is that they think of it as “holding their own” and heroically facing down deluded, ignorant, or hopelessly co-opted intellectual inferiors.
And I can’t resist closing with the admittedly sophomoric jape that Phillipe really put the “Ass” in “Assouline”. ;)
As long as Peter Lavelle is the moderator, all sides will get their fair share of time to represent their views.
Obviously, Mr. Lavelle, has no fear to interrupt and correct outrageous, or obviously propaganda statements from his guests. Mr. Lavelle is no Charlie-Rose!
It does no good to hear only one side of an issue (such has occurred in the USA media for the last century).
There is a war out there; it is the duty of good media to air all the views. The result is that the people will form stronger opinions because they will more easily recognize their enemies and the morality, or lack of it, of their enemies. One does not march well – while blind. That is a weakness of the imperialist side.
* I was hesitating to put this in; but it is timely and important (with war and NATO all around) – Democracy trumps Dictatorship. Belorussian Oligarch, Alexander Lukashenko, was elected for the 5th time last week. If he had an ounce of decency, he would retire and allow a truly fair election to be held. Additionally, there is no earthly reason for Belorussia not to rejoin its mother, Russia.
Democratic Republics, Referendums, Emotion; do I need a verb?
Aim high!
For a well informed and well-armed citizenry in nations where the grey haired old ladies rule!
This is the “assertion” style they used to teach in est. Just keep saying the same thing over and over.
This Philippe seems to think and believe to the depth of his soul that it is all subjective, and there are no guidelines out there for determining whether a person is head of a legitimate government or not. Or course it is basic to the neocon view that anyone they want to depose was never a legitimate leader anyhow. Otherwise, they, the neocons and the USA govt, would clearly be outside the law. They are not challenging a legitimate head of state. So they have to cling to this “dictator” meme at all costs or they, obviously, become the ouitlaws. One cannot talk reason to such people. You cannot get them to just look for a minute at international law, or the UN charter. Plus, a loto fo the California people seem to have bought into the creative disruptoin idea. What comes after the disruption? Who knows??? That’s when the real fun begins!!
(OT: I notice in a recent piece in The Scotsman on teh Lockerbie investigation that Gaddafi was “the despot ruler of Libya.” more delegitimizing meming. BTW, are there any parallels between the lockerbie crash and the more recent Malaysian ones?)).
As soon as you admit that there in anything legit about Assad, it clear that you are breaking international law by having even a little toe in that country without permission to do so. The outrageous fantasy of omnipotence REQUIRES delegitimizing those who are in one’s way. They do not have any rights at all. They are outside the community of nations. This is partly a psychological process, too, that makes slavery and genocide possible. So, that is the reason why this Philippe has to keep reiterating his one point that ASsad is not the president of a country, per Philippe Assad is practically an interloper in his own country! Whereas Philippe and Philippe and his pals get to say who should rule in Syria. His cred probably depends on this type of performance and keeps the bucks flowing to him from whatever think tank pays his bills in LA.
Of course, if he is a Zionist, then it is Israel that should rule in Greater Syria (and maybe keeps the bucks flowing). And, wait for it ….
Without throwing mud on the situation from people like me who keep saying IS JN etc are part of the US military just as much as the contras as found by the court itself, here is another analysis about oh pooa baby, we no not wut we do.. Except we just fuck it all up and a zillion people die and walk without any legs or arms. but it does show that you can paint a pretty picture in academic circles about oh pooa baby we do not know what happened because we are basically idiots.. I think by now the game theory computers are so spiked that what ever plans it come up with just makes it all the more confusing to act, ie nato cannot do anything without it all falling apart, hence to double down, triple down until one day something breaks and it falls apart.. It seems the wheels are already coming off… That would never happen is this was all organic.. As a balance would have built up to keep everything in check.. When it all falls apart in a month, it means the leverage used is such that you take away the top and the rest just falls down.
An excellent article.I think he nailed the situation, using pretty mild language. If anything I agree with a comment that said the situation was even worse. At least some US scholars recognize the truth.
Something else we don’t look for but those who have to fight do calculate the efficiency of the enemy they have to fight. It also shows the reliability of the equipment and capabilities of the ground crew and pilots. One of the main problems of disorganized military is where it is all done as is without focus and proper training. The higher the efficiency, the better trained and better built equipment and the longer you can keep up the pace shows the durability under war like conditions. I bet many US think tanks are making notes of everything that is happening. This is where one decides to attack or stay put. Hitler thought the inefficiency of the soviets would bring him victory and he was right, but then things changed when people realized he was out to kill them all. From farmers, they went to work day and night in factories without heat or proper food and their efficiency increased like 500%. By the end of WW2, soviet production of just one model of T32 tanks were equal to the entire german war production. which itself was the highest during the end of ww2. But hitler thought german efficiency was already high and never went full production until he realized he would lose by which time it was too late. Russia is showing the US that efficiency of its military.. Which should make any nato general take note that they are not fighting some untrained grunts in Afghanistan.
The most optimistic U.S. military officials had predicted that the Russian forces would be able to generate a theoretical maximum of ninety-six sorties per day—but most officials dismissed that as wildly optimistic. “With thirty-two on the ramp, I think they’ll probably be able to fly twenty-four jets per day,” one recently retired U.S. Air Force fighter pilot told me. “Depending on sortie duration and whether they’re flying at night, they may get between two and four sorties per jet, per day. So I think the range is probably between forty-eight and ninety-six sorties per day.”
Russian Foreign Ministry: Supplying terrorists in Syria with air defense systems will not be without consequences
Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Ministry warned on Friday that supplying terrorists in Syria with man-portable air-defense systems will be deemed a direct support for terrorists and means that those who do it must face the consequences.
The Russian diplomat affirmed that in case such systems end up in terrorists’ hands, the country involved will have to be held to account for siding with international terrorism with all the attendant consequences this act implies. “This should be taken as a serious warning,” he added.
“Rachel Polonsky argues here that this is the best course. Many would disagree, and see backing Russia—and Assad, whose military has killed so many Syrians“
Personally I would not contribute…it is not jounalism IMHO.
Confusion and chaos are bedmates. Whether consciously or unconsciously, they benefit the empire and protect AZ interests. Pepe E. calls it the empire of chaos. The bible calls it the wo hu wa bo hu, originating waters of chaos. Shakespeare: “Double, double, toil and trouble; Fire burn, and cauldron bubble…Confusion now hath made his masterpiece.” Science calls it the black hole singularity. Poetry calls it a black swan. Whatever…
thelovegovernment.com calls it patriarchy after the AZ patriarchs. Love is the only force strong enough to bring order out of chaos. Orderly creation is falsely attributed to God by the patriarchal wanna-be gods which just adds to the confusion while providing an interim fix. In terms of language, sooner or later we have to re-write God into Love and Lord into Lover.
Language always has a hook for good or ill. Until we master the language, info war game we are victims of it. Russia has mastered the game only up to a point. When this game is won, and it must be won, a much bigger game will open up. Putin hinted at it in his UN speech with his newly coined word: “nature-technology.”
Specifics on that power plant bombing story.
Sounds like only a sub-station & feed.

again I hear ‘negotiating table’ … I just don’t know what this means….negotiating with ISIL ?
That’s like negotiating with a shark about whether he’ll eat you. I can’t get it unless the negotiations would be with Saudi Arabia, Turnkey and US…
And they have yet to admit that they are the driving force of ISIL mercenaries. They are the keepers of the shark.
