I am hearing a lot of seemingly reasonable people recently – like Michael here – starting out in a moderate-sounding way, but then saying, “Assad is not a good guy, therefore he cannot be left in charge”. That may be a subtle attempt to insert a wedge between the friends of Syria. But if Assad is “not a good guy”, please tell me which national leader today is “a good guy”. (OK, I’ll stipulate Putin).

The “Assad is not a good guy” or “Putin is not a nice man” meme is getting very widespread, and I think we should challenge it whenever it appears. Who says? Based on what objective, impartial evidence?

Why should Syria, which was for many years a peaceful, tolerant secular state, be partitioned along religious lines? The only reason is because Israel (and therefore the USA) want Syria as a nation to be broken up.

The USA has far more religious affiliations and sects than Syria, so why isn’t the US government proposing to split the USA up into Catholic, Protestant, Evangelical Christian, Sunni, Shia, Wahhabi, Hindu, Buddhist, Shinto, etc. etc. regions?

During this Crosstalk, someone spoke about the difficulty of introducing “Jeffersonian democracy” to Syria. Having refreshed my memory of Jefferson’s thinking about democracy, I don’t think it would be possible to introduce Jefferson democracy into today’s USA!

Among the things that Jefferson was dead set against were powerful central government, central banks, all financial institutions, all large corporations, standing armies, foreign wars… in short, Jefferson would detest everything about the modern US federal government. If he could see the Military-Industrial-Congressional Complex, he would scream like a girl. It would be something straight out of his deepest, darkest nightmares.

That is correct. The Jeffersonian model is the one espoused by Ron Paul in order to curb the totalitarian tendencies of the state.

Larry Johnson, a former CIA analyst, provided a surprisingly objective and consistent view , unlike the other participants. I think he should be hired by RT, The Duran, or other alternative media. It is the first time someone from USA openly states that this war is driven as much by weapons production and profits as by oil/gas, geopolitical power, and the rest.

Peter Lavelle is interfering too much by inserting his opinion/thought after each commentator statement. It is counterproductive to the quality of his show, as it often breaks viewer’s attention and prevents additional thoughts coming out from participants. He really needs to change this style of conduct.

    Regards, Spiral
