It’s official: the Junta and Novorussia have agreed to a 12 point ceasefire (no details yet). Lugansk’s leader Igor Plotnitsky declared: ““Most of the points of the protocol correspond with our demands. However, the ceasefire does not mean a shift from our course of breaking away from Ukraine. This is a compulsory measure”.
That was, so to say, the easy part. Now things will get really complicated.
Stay tuned,
The Saker
Evidently, a kind of false flag may have occurred. A friend of mine just wrote to tell me that an Estonian official has been abducted by Russia (so they allege) at a Lithuanian check-point today.

Saker, is there any word on whether the fighting actually stopped or not? It’s past the time that it was supposed to stop if the ceasefire was signed. The RT story came out early this morning.

At the Minsk Meeting, it was very wise –
The future status of the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Luhansk was not discussed at the meeting.
[.]Earlier, Plotnitsky said that the ceasefire did not change the policy of the self-proclaimed people’s republics of Luhansk and Donetsk to secede from Ukraine.

NATO leaders’ declaration: Now, it’s Porky’s Peace Plan-
“Recognising the right of Ukraine to restore peace and order and to defend its people and territory, we encourage the Ukrainian armed forces and security services to continue to exercise the utmost restraint in their ongoing operation so as to avoid casualties among the local civilian population,” the declaration says.
“We encourage Ukraine to further promote an inclusive political process, based on democratic values and respect for human rights, minorities, and the rule of law,” the document says. “We welcome (Ukrainian) President (Petro) Poroshenko’s Peace Plan and call on all parties to meet their commitments, including those made in Geneva and Berlin. We call on Russia to engage in a constructive dialogue with the Ukrainian government.”

Got that? we encourage the Ukrainian armed forces and security services to continue to exercise the utmost restraint in their ongoing operation so as to avoid casualties among the local civilian population,”
Guys wise up; you’ve been smoking Jah ganja.
You can’t isolate Russia. For starters; look at the geography…Russia has 12 Time zones…not to mention the resources you crave: oil; gas; palladium; gold; engine and space technology; more oil; more gas; uranium; rare earth minerals; forestry; fresh water, Oh and a deep sea warm water port in the Krim. Enough.

To the Saker: re Taking lessons
Not long ago on this blog there was reference to Hezbollah as a pattern for forming a resistance force. Many key points were outlined and it seems implemented in Novorussia. Perhaps an extension of that analogy would be useful at this time.
1) Hezbollah never made a ceasefire that left Israel in possession of more land than when that particular round of conflict started. Junta troops are left to fortify within shelling range of Lugansk.
2) Hezbollah has jealously guarded its communications and supply routes. I believe the ceasefire allows Ukrainian control of border posts.
3) Hezbollah, from 1996 forward, while respecting the larger geo-political concerns of its main backer (Iran), did not allow Iran to negotiate on its’ behalf, make deals on its’ behalf or establish the terms of any agrreements. Often Hezbollah has acted in ways that, while best for the south of Lebanon, makes life difficult for Iran. Novorussia does not appear to have any of this freedom.
4) Hezbollah gained clear concessions from Israel with each cease-fire. Those concessions were the way that Hezbollah legitimized the cost that was paid in civilian lives and material damage. Novorussia has gained nothing in this agreement – everything is yet to be negotiated. In other words, at this point, the lives lost and destruction of the south-east, has been largely in vain (for the people of Novorussia). Yes, Nazi intentions have been made blatantly obvious. Yes, Putin has gained by exposing western manipulation and limiting Nato expansion. But what do the people of Novorussia gain for the cost that has been paid?
5) Hezbollah lives in a political and economic no-man’s-land; which is fine if you are simply a resistance movement. Novorussia as a resistance movement = transnistria. With apologies to the people there who have held valiantly to their faith and culture, 20 years of negotiations has left it a political nothing, cut off economically, socially stagnant they loose their children to the cities of the west. Each year they suffocate a little bit more. Oligarch/Nazi events forced Novorussia into being. It is not a resistance movement; it has a vision for its’ own community set free to use their own language; it has a need to be economically viable or it will end as a miserable economic backwater kept alive by the slow drip of a Russian financial transfusion.
6) Hezbollah has negotiated with Israel. At least Israel knows how to make its’ own decisions and while they regularly break their agreements after a number of years (leading to more war and death) at least they give stability din the day to day scene. Who will Novorussia negotiate with? The multiple partners means that things will change day-to-day, reports that are never acted on will be filed by the OSCE, insecurity will reign, Novorussia will become a welfare state kept alive by NGO’s who have their own political agendas.
7) Hezbollah is committed to Lebanese unity. It has fought for 20 years to see Lebanon kept free from the kind of Palestinian style oppression that is played out in Gaza and the West Bank. Yet to this day significant political leaders in Lebanon find substantial western support for their efforts to mobilize local media against Hezbollah, to subvert it, to betray it, to encourage Israeli attacks, etc.
Is this how the people of Novorussia want to live?
As for the protest that Novorussia is committed to gaining its’ independence I reply: the West has already shown repeatedly how it will use the conditions of a cease-fire, even more how it will handle any referendums for independence.
Beware, beware, beware!

The refugees will head back home. Russia can’t afford to support them for a year or two. So when they are back home, rebuilding their towns and homes, how will Kiev be able to blow them up again?
They may try, but the outcry will be extraordinary. And Russian forces may cancel the Ukies once and for all. Double ethnic cleansing would be too much.
So, Novorossiya Minor is intact.
Will Greater Novorossiya come into play?
Each ceasefire violation will cost Ukraine more turf. That will be the effect of violations.
Ukraine and the Hegemon can’t win this war.
Russia will break the economic sanctions at some point.
The impact to the economy is minimal. The sanctions are hurting Europe much more. If the media did its job, you’d know the catastrophe that Russian’s reactionary sanctions on Europe has had.
On the battlefield the Novorossiya Army is fast and strong. It can win anything it wants to win in due course. The Ukies will get some training from NATO. NATO hasn’t won a war in anyone’s memory. It cannot fight the war in Ukraine because it fights from the air. It lobs in cruise missiles and flies bombers over defenseless cities. So what could the Ukies learn from NATO?
Where are the mercs and contractors on the ground in Donbass? Dead or wounded or gone. Some may be captives learning Russian the hard way. You know why mercs from NATO/Blackwater don’t work? They are used to calling in air strikes, not fighting prolonged set piece combat. That can’t happen fighting Russia directly or its proxy.
Ceasefires are not meant to be permanent. This is not peace and reconciliation. This is day one of negotiating the end of the junta, the end of Kiev, the end of 42 million person entity called Ukraine.
Really smart Ukrainians who don’t want to associate with Russia ought to turn to Poland and Hungary and urge annexation of that part of Ukraine by those nations. The others should help Russia end the corrupt leaders and start building a new nation that can at least feed and warm itself.
Putin can be a very generous benefactor. Helping put an end to this insanity and hatred will go a long way with Vlad. Those returning military and their mothers have a huge opportunity to win back whatever part of Ukraine can exist as neutral.
AGS,
Oh. My. Well, never fear: if you’re right in your speculations re: mercenaries, they’ll get theirs fighting either for or against ISIS. So at least there’s that…
Alien Tech,
Dear Heavens. “all the most backward, poorest, least successful people in the country…” You mean the industrialized part that contributed the most to the tax base of the whole place? Those backward, poorest, least successful people? Hmmmmmm
John 97205,
I saw that. It might have been Porky’s original proposal (a lot of it sure did look familiar…) but I cannot believe it’s anywhere near the final product.
Anonymous 17:24,
Yes, that was pretty interesting: I guess no one actually *in* the Junta had the nerve (or whatever) to participate so Kuchma got stuck with it again. Plausible deniability, I guess…
Another thing is what Stepping Razor, Barn Owl and Michael Collins alluded to: since there have been increasing allegations of Kiev deliberately sending men to the slaughter — and not just Pravy Sektor either — one might assume that a fair number of those troops might be sufficiently disillusioned to become a real threat to the Junta. And now the prisoners and, presumably some of those folks still serving, have a far better chance of returning home alive, and very angry. There’s a lot to be said for that…
What’s going to be most interesting now is what gets revealed tomorrow about MH-17. Is there anyone else wondering whether Russia held her proof of what really happened over a couple of heads there and this ceasefire was in fact what Putin really did want? Novorossiyan reps had no trouble agreeing with it (and obviously the terms didn’t abrogate their future independence). For all our efforts, we still only see just the tippety-top of a giant iceberg and we don’t even know where the rest of it is.
@ Pat, thanks for the info!
Not a false flag but a fact shown wrongly.
It was, says the FSB, inside Russia and his equipment showed he was a spy.
I suppose he will be soon released, in such cases spies are mainly held for the purpose of exposing their presence to the public…
Don’t those who claim that “ISIS is what ZUSA & ZATO are more worried about right now” understand that ISIS is their creation?
The same kind of well-organized force, with an enormous logistic support (like the ISIS–how would it otherwise be able to run over so many official millitaries in the ME?), will emerge in the Ukraine unless the zionazis are completely defeated.

“…According to him, Europe is now facing a new catastrophic global challenge. Calling from the United States, which is pushing the European community to the next world war, unleashing using intelligence conflict in Ukraine.
“America’s great war is a capital inflow and the suppression of competition, America’s war is always a benefit,” said Glazyev.
The U.S. goal, he said, to strengthen the control of the EU, to establish control over Ukraine, which already, as noted by the Advisor to the President, “in principle already happened”, and to restore lost control of Russia. Well, finally, the war of the States needs to maintain its leadership in competition with China.
American business, as noted Glaziev, already paid in Ukrainian conflict. Advisor to the President of Russia expressed confidence that the United States now seek to unleash an even greater conflict.
“The war for U.S. – usual case, especially a war with someone else’s hands,” said he.
States in particular, according to him, will be able with the help of a great war to get rid of the burden of debt. “War, as they say, all written off,” said Glazyev…”

As for what declared by Mozgovoi I think exactly the same, he seems to have read my mind. The man has more reason than a saint. What paints Kuchma oligarchs, oligarch father in law, in this negotiation? If you can not translate everything, at least do it with Mozgovoi statement, a must read

@ 05 September, 2014 19:04 Very glad to see the ‘Putin has betrayed Novorossiya! Putin has sold out! Putin is secretly working for the NWO’ chorus hasn’t quite returned on this news. I remain cautiously optimistic. There is no guarantee for example even with a ceasefire that the Ukie forces at Donetsk airport can stay holed up in their Soviet-era bunkers if they’ve already eaten through their supplies and whatever was in storage at the airport. Russian forces are said to be massing opposite Novoazovsk and in northern Crimea — the latter probably just in case that NATO merc force rumored to be in training gets sent on a suicide mission with what’s left of the Ukie army at Crimea. And yes, there are genuine humanitarian concerns and massive repairs that must be made to prevent a greater exodus from Donetsk and Lugansk with first freezing night only five or six weeks away and first snows in late October!
The NAF cannot afford to take heavy casualties assaulting urban areas full of Ukies like Mariupol or cause a heavy civilian death toll with artillery in such close quarters urban combat. That will hurt the moral high ground they’ve claimed, even if the NAF assault on Mariupol would be a swift blitz and would not involve shelling the city for weeks like the Ukies did with the cities of Novorossiya.
Besides this, Porkyshenko is desperately spinning that Novorossiya agreed to his total capitulation ‘peace plan’ from six weeks ago while the Azov Battalion Nazis and hardcore Ukie ultranationalists know that Russia and the NAF have inflicted a humiliating defeat on them. At the end of the day, I have to trust that Putin has more intel than we possibly could have about the imminence of a Ukie military coup or a second/third Maidan this time led by armed combat veterans.
Ben Judah the neocon Economist reporter was writing for the New York Review of Books about the crushing Ukie defeat only two or three weeks after proclaiming a Ukie victory was imminent. Judah’s recent tweets admitted that Azov Battalion that is defending Mariupol is a neo-Nazi organization, despite his best effort to downplay the implications. Judah’s described in his story the image of a Ukrainian soldier’s upper torso less lower body blown onto a power line. As gruesome as it is, this picture will likely become symbolic of Kiev’s humiliating military failure, like the image of the naked crying Vietnamese girl was in the Vietnam War. Hopefully the local Orthodox belivers found a priest to give that headless and mid-torso less Ukrainian’s remains an Orthodox Christian burial.
One other thing: Tymchuk — the Baghdad Bob of Ukraine — claims that the runways at Lugansk airport that Ukrainian sappers tried to blow up when they were forced to retreat under heavy NAF artillery fire are being repaired by Russian Army combat engineers. If this is true humanitarian airlift flights could become a routine occurence and while we may not see Russian troops openly operating in the city Russian Emergency Situations Ministry personnel could be deployed to repair the infrastructure damage the Ukies created before winter hits. Yet another way for Putin to humiliate NATO and remind the world and Kiev of the mess the Ukies left behind.

It seems to be Russian diplomacy. When Syria was winning, Russia would push for ceasefires that seriously helped Syria’s enemies. Maybe those in the Foreign Ministry get bonuses or overtime for all the bad agreements they create?

Speaking of the ceasefire in Donbass, which, I suspect, will most likely be only partial, the question is whether the Kiev junta traded sparing lives of its troops in several cauldrons for 1) ceding territory to Novorossiya or/and 2) ceasing to shell the cities of Donbass. The other two immediate questions of great importance is the question of the Donetsk airport (with numerous foreign special forces soldiers fighting for the junta) and the question of Mariupol. A very telling and significant is the fact that none of the sides has a desire to publish the text of the ceasefire agreement.
In his press conference with the Kyrgyz Foreign Minister, Lavrov correctly identified the US and the Kiev junta as “the party of war.” In the current temporary situation, the US, Kiev, and NATO are, however, facing the consequence of the recent crushing military defeats in Donbass and the deepening economic and political crisis in the former Ukraine. In this situation, the dilemma of the war party is whether to try to crush Novorossiya, as they have been trying to so far, or whether to freeze the conflict and consolidate the power of the Nazi junta over the rest of Ukraine, while also consolidating the US and NATO’s hold over this vast “bridgehead” into Russia. So far, on the part of the US and NATO, the war party was driving the policy. The Right Sector or other Nazi battalions are also for firm.
In this regard, it is already obvious that these Nazi battalions under Avakov are trained much like ISIS or al Nusra in Syria and Iraq–as special forces elevated and expanded into brigades and armies. As such, they were/are to be no match for “opposing peasants.”
All in all, it is, however, evident that the ceasefire is most advantageous to the Kiev junta and the war party. It allows them to save themselves from a looming decisive defeat. The ceasefire can allow them to reset the war.
If one is to take Lavrov’s statements literally, then Lavrov’s and Russia’s position is that stopping or freezing violence is the most important thing irrespective of the political or other security considerations, which, if one is to be guided only or mainly by what Lavrov said, then then political cause of Donbass is merely a question of knowing what taxes the people of Donbass are to be paying and the question of the Russian language.
Poroshenko promised Peace but may not be able to deliver
points out Porky does not command the troops, they are actually under the command of Svoboda as well as Right Sector, formerly known as UNA-UNSO, a NATO-sponsored terrorist organization.

Breaking:more UE sanctions,even with cease fire…bitches
Ukraine agreed in principle to new EU sanctions against Russia
Brussels – The ambassadors of 28 countries of the European Union agreed on Friday night in Brussels of new economic sanctions against Russia for violating the sovereignty of Ukraine, despite a cease-fire in the day between Ukrainian forces and pro-Russian rebel, announced the Presidents of the Commission and the European Council.
This new package of restrictive measures has now been approved in the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the Member States to the EU, said in a letter to the Heads of State and Government of José Manuel Barroso and Herman Van Rompuy.
This will give the EU an effective tool, which should allow us to answer in a short period of time, said the two senior EU officials. This will increase the effectiveness of measures already in place and reinforce the principle that EU sanctions are designed to promote a change of attitude of Russia in Ukraine, they said.
The package includes strengthened on access to capital markets, defense, dual civilian and military use and sensitive technologies measures, they said.
In addition, names were added to the list of persons subject to –gel targeted sanctions and asset bans visa–, said MM. Van Rompuy and Barroso.
This list now includes the new power in (the area) of Donbass, the Crimean government, and policy makers and Russian oligarchs, they added, without giving further details.
The European Council gave a mandate to the August 30 EU leaders to strengthen measures against Moscow.
The text of the agreement will be finalized during the weekend, so that a written adoption by Member States can be launched Monday, according to the letter procedure.
Once formally adopted, this package will be published in the Official Journal of the EU, which will allow them entry into force, probably Tuesday, according to a diplomatic source.
This is proof that EU governments are willing to do what it takes to show Russia the consequences of its actions, said another European diplomatic source.

Finally some commonsense about the ceasefire. The ceasefire is GOOD! Prisoners can be exchanged. So what if The UA gets 1,000 or more men back. They will mostly be demoralised, gibbering wrecks. They will be distributed amongst other units and will tell what happened to them. The perfect fifth column to further demoralise the UA.
Prisoners cost Novorossiya manpower and food. Food that is better used on the civilian population.
The ceasefire allows the NAF to regroup and re-supply. It allows some pockets to be cleared, releasing more NAF troops. It allows more humanitarian aid to come in, like fuel, that dual-use item. Apparently the UA abandoned many vehicles including armour because they ran out of fuel. I wonder what happens to those vehicles when they are refuelled?
Civilians get much needed relief and many can be evacuated from dangerous positions. This means that NAF can be more forceful in their next attacks.
You can tell that the Ceasfire is good for Novorossiya by the number of “Anonymous” who decry it. There are just so many positives for the NAF and Novorossiya. Anyway, we all know it won’t last for long, but hopefully – long enough.
In other news, Hunter Biden is hunting for a new job while a Malaysian team of doctors are mobilizing to give Mr. Kolomosky an unscheduled colonoscopy.
I think Auslander is quite correct. The thing about psychopaths, whether Orcrainian fascists or neo-Nazis, takfiri liver-eaters and child-murderers, Zionazi child-butchers or the ruling Western elites, is that their appetite for murder and destruction is unquenchable. The USA has always selected the most florid psychopaths to comprise its death-squads, from Operation Phoenix (and long before)the Contras, the ‘Salvador Option’ in Iraq etc, right up to al-Qaeda, so useful in Bosnia, Chechnya and Kosovo. IS is just the latest manifestation. The Banderistani butchers are hereditary Nazis, whose savagery is dedicated to the memory of their genocidal forebears, nurtured during decades of exile, protected by the West, and then unleashed again by the Yankee Reich thanks to the treachery of the vodka container Yeltsin. The aim is to finish the job begun by the Wehrmacht, to destroy Russia, smash it to pieces, steal its riches and enslave its people-ie the modus vivendi of the Western elites around the planet for centuries. The exact same ambitions are held for China.
To the people saying this ceasefire is bad for Novorussia: No, it is not. You need to look at the bigger picture.
The bigger picture is the overthrowing of the Kiev Junta. There is a saying: What is taken by force can only be kept with force. Now think about Novorussian tanks fighting in Kiev. What will this archieve?
The thing is this, the people of western Ukraine are pretty pissed about the Kiev Junta right now. They do not need much convincing that Poroshenko is bad for them. There is no need to remove Prososhenko by force of arms, he will be removed sooner or later by the people.
Imagine the drafted soldiers of the Ukie army going home to their families, telling them how the war really played out. How badly they were treated by their superiors, that they were used as cannon fodder. Do you think these guys would like to go on fighting? Do you think they will let themselves be commanded by Poroshenko to go back to fight after a ceasefire? No!
The Donbass people are still ukrainians that other ukrainians listen to and they can remove the Kiev Junta through other means than by force of arms. It will happen! The Junta is not loved by the people and the people will not fight for them anymore.
The goals of the Russian Federation and Novorossia are served by a ceasefire. It creates immense pressure on Kiev, without expending any resources, due anti-war sentiments and right-wing extremism. A heavy armour war across massive territory in the winter would be difficult to pull off. Better to reinforce Donetsk and Lugansk economically, create stability and build popular support. A new guerilla army can arise, the underground people’s Red Army of New Soviet Ukraine, backed by the NAF and the Russian Federation.
Alien Tech, what you mention at 1621, the sheer hatefulness of certain sectors of society in Ukraine for others in their purported ‘state’, is simply bog-standard Rightwing psychopathy. The pathopsychology of the Rightist is dominated by misanthropy, the fear and hatred of other human beings. In the West it is manifest in gross and growing inequality, social savagery (cutting off water supplies to the poor in Detroit, ‘austerity’, union-busting, working poor in the tens of millions etc)directed at the weak, neo-imperial and neo-colonial interference in the affairs of all states, boundless arrogance, conceit and supremacist contempt (one of the reasons that the Jews are such a dominant caste in the West, particularly the Anglosphere these days-they’ve been practising this way of acting in the world for 3500 years)and murderous belligerence. The Rightwing psychopaths naturally identify with the West, because it represents their mentality. The same sort of human filth are present, well financed and organised by the West, in Russia, too, and they will be mobilised soon.
Automatic translation
In Ukraine, in the eastern areas the average temperature is about -6°C, with peaks up to -30°C and over. You can expect near 40 days of snow. In Novorossia people could die of cold and starvation in an impressive number. If they do not rebuild the infrastructure quickly (and by November the weather becomes tyrant), the humanitarian crisis might become a humanitarian catastrophe. The west would blame on Russia. The military would not even be equipped for the winter. It would be carnage. Better try to spend the winter with less damage as possible and build a strategy that can eradicate the danger forever. A radical deratization.
Of course the Real Evil Empire is going to do everything it can to destroy the BRICS. God’s Chosen People, the Judeo-Christian Western Free Market elites intend ruling over the entire planet, forever. There is NO chance whatsoever of ‘peaceful accommodation’ or ‘co-existence’ with the Western ruling elites. One need only look at the reality of Western societies, the grotesque inequality, the arrogance of the insatiable elites, the total absence of social mobility, the crumbling infrastructure, the dominance of financial parasitism, the incredibly narrow range of ‘Free Opinion’, the vulgarity and voyeurism of mass culture, the ignorance and arrogance of even the most down-trodden, brainwashed to see themselves as superior to all the non-Western ‘savages’, and the dominance of politics, MSM and business by one tiny tribe whose racist redoubt in Palestine is a global centre for human organ, drug, sex, blood diamonds, arms and surveillance equipment trafficking, to see that this situation cannot persist for much longer.
The Western elites must know that economic collapse, resource depletion and ecological catastrophe are looming ever closer, and that global disaster is decades away at best. If the elites were sane and humane, mankind would be mobilised to save itself. Unfortunately the Western ‘Masters of Mankind’ clearly intend to use the catastrophe to destroy all points of resistance and remove billions of ‘useless eaters’ from the equation. That’s what Putin is up against.

The wolf grinned and said “Oh, I just want to lick your finger, I mean no harm”.
Fool: “sure go ahead ahead, partner, I trust you and I want to be friends with you”.
Fool: “Ah, you fiend, you gobbled up my finger …. never do it again, partner”.
Wolf: “Sorry, friend, the finger was too small so I made a mistake, my teeth just slipped. Let me lick your arm, that way I won’t make a mistake”.
Fool: ” Ok, go ahead, partner, just remember we are frineds and partners”.
Fool then loses his arm. The rest will be history.

To Patagonian at19:10, I submitted a followup to your request on the previous ceasefire blog, with a poem from Pushkin. The important prayer signifying Orthodoxy for him is rendered thusly in English:
Lenten Prayer of St. Ephraim the Syrian
O Lord and Master of my life,
Take from me the spirit of sloth, faintheartedness, lust for power, and idle talk;
But give rather the spirit of chastity, humility, patience and love to thy servant.
Yea, O Lord and King,
Grant me to see my own errors
And not to judge my brother,
For Thou art blessed unto ages of ages.
Amen.
O Lord, cleanse me a sinner, (12 times)

@ 05 September, 2014 22:29 @GrahamWPhillips already tweeted out that someone misused that video, naturally without attribution. Nor is it clear again even if these guys are bragging that they’re Russian paratroopers whether they were sent their on orders from VDV command or simply voluteered as combat veterans of the Chechnya or South Ossetia wars.
Furthermore, I’m glad many commenters — even the usual ‘Putin sellout’ anons — are acknowledging that winter is coming both for western Ukraine and for Novorossiya. Putin clearly knows the forces of discontent if not seething rage are growing across Ukraine against the bastard oligarchs in Kiev. If Putin can get the Nazis fighting against the oligarchs, so much the better. That will help clear the path for true patriots of the Ukrainian army to come out on top and appoint a General to make peace. The Nazis are very fanatical and good at murdering people Odessa style but they have not proven so successful at fighting against opponents who can GRAD the crap out of them.
Again, not only the bloodless seizure of Crimea but also the crushing defeats the junta has suffered on the battlefield prevent me from despairing or thinking that NATO will come back twice as hard as with Operation Storm or the Kosovo wars against Serbia. Putin is not Milosevic and NATO is not as strong as it was in 1999 when the EU economies looked prosperous as opposed to their present completely insolvent state. More big moves are coming, perhaps related to the MH17 revelations and hopefully Russia leaking to destroy the Dutch/UK/US whitewash.
Edit:
In Ukraine, in the eastern areas the average temperature is about -6°C
Of course in winter.
From a previous thread (since nobody ever reads the older ones):
Meahwhile, Merkel is still engaged in lies and double-talk and now says punishing Russia (for the sins of Washington) is more important than the German economy or people. She cannot be more transparent: she takes orders from Washington. Maybe NSA has some dirt on her? Threats?

Actually, I think Germany had a color revolution, and Merkel is simply the chosen U.S. puppet. Think how different she is from the previous Kanzler, Gerhard Shroeder, who had the guts to oppose a major U.S. foreign policy (the invasion of Iraq). If Merkel had been Kanzler then, she would probably have saluted and sent a hundred thousand German troops to the MIddle East.
Saker,
Please tell me RF did not sell out Novorossia!!!
Mulga Mumblebrain said…
” The aim is to finish the job begun by the Wehrmacht, to destroy Russia, smash it to pieces, steal its riches and enslave its people-ie the modus vivendi of the Western elites around the planet for centuries. The exact same ambitions are held for China.”
Agreed. China, though has nothing like Ukraine on its border. The comparable entity is across the East China and Yellow Sea. And when Japan moves against China in some way, South Korea, North Korea, Taiwan and Russia will join the fray. so the US has a much harder row to hoe.
But they will try with Tibet and Xinjiang and stir things in Hong Kong. That is all they can do.
They hoped for Vietnam to turn on China, but that is hopeless. And the Philippines really is not that crazed. Aquino is in the tank for the US money, but the people aren’t.
Nothing is like what Russia faces with NATO.
That’s why Putin is the key. He’s actually got NATO by their tiny nuts. It will look and sound bad for some time, maybe a year. But Ukraine will come apart. Putin is applying pressure in all the right places.
The nazis holding Mariupol will soon trade their weapons for vodka and a warm meal. I believe a paratrooper drop will come one night and free the town.
Russia is going to liberate Ukraine from itself.
To all the Putin haters who haven’t a clue and to those who think, without malice toward Putin, that this is a setback, a devastating blow, some deal with the devil, I would like to point out that Putin would be removed and maybe “terminated” if he sold out Mother Russia to the Nazis.
And by Nazis, I mean all the evil Hegemonic freakoids who parade under umbrellas of Democracy but murder children in kindergartens, old people in wheelchairs and women and young families in parks and public squares.
Putin will protect Mother Russia. He will never let NATO in Ukraine. He will neutralize Ukraine as a forward base of destabilizing attacks. He will take some pound of flesh as vengeance for what has been done to Donbass. He will build Crimea and Novorossiya economically. He will double the military strength of Russia. He will build his share of Eurasia market while the Chinese build the other side. And he will sing a song of love and comfort on YouTube when this all sorts out.
You haters and doubters would not recognize Napoleon or Alexander the Great in their time. This Putin chap is made of legendary stuff.
It is very easy to think a great person is made of the same weak crap as you are or others you think badly of. Every generation or two great people come along and history grabs them for crucial tasks. Russia has grabbed Putin. And he is perfect for the task to protect, preserve and promote the next century of development and evolution of Russia from a battered nation to greatness.
He’s an alpha male, which I suspect none of the bashers are. He’s also very smart. Which I suspect none of you bashers are.
So spare us the crap of your making. Russia must win. You don’t understand that. Russia must neutralize Ukraine as a base or threat. You don’t understand that. If you understood what has to happen, and what ways are available to make that happen, and how Putin and the FSB and GRU and military men operate, and how its diplomatic men are used, how legal structures and deals are made, then you would be smart about this matter.
Only ideologues who think one way don’t get the process that will unfold. Dugin, Sleboda, El Murid, Col Cassad. They want to use the full, direct force of the armed forces and blow away Ukraine.
That is no good. It will hurt Russia badly. Short term and long term.
So, other means are used.
I’m betting not a single Putin hater or doubter ever could have conceived of Crimea and the polite green men. Putin did. It was a means he had readied exactly for that. It was not luck. It was a plan executed to perfection. Not one shot fired!
This Novorossiya thing is going the way Putin wants it. Negotiationg ceasefires and ebbing and flowing on the battlefield is tactics. The strategic goal is coming to form the way he wants it.
Stay the course. It is a great historic adventure we are watching. Painful because of the human loss and horrible because of the satanic acts. But considering the stakes of life or death for Russia, this is sandbox play in the scheme of things.
He’s probably the shrewdest man who has walked the earth in the last two hundred years. And a good way to judge a man is this: would you trust him to take care of your children?
I have four, and I would. And I don’t know the guy. But all my instincts tell me he’s a superb human being.
I’m from Sicilian blood and we don’t trust anyone as far as we can throw them. So factor that in my analysis.
“This Putin chap is made of legendary stuff”.
^^^^^^^^ That pretty much says it all. I am confident, as he has shown up to now, that Putin is at least 2 moves ahead of the West in this game of geo-political chess. He knows not only his own options but those of the West and is playing a masterful game. He sees the 65th square ….. the whole board, while the West basks in its delusional myopathy.
Larchmonter, I always like your comments and remarks here.. you have a precious gift of eloquence.. to give words their meaning
About Putin: i was thinking that now, everybody is waiting what will Putin do, what will be his next move, even his haters, they have Putin on their minds all the time..
That is because he is true leader, a setter of future trends, and the others are just reacting and following.
Nobody really cares what will Obama-puppet say or do, or the EUrobureaucrats .. everybody feels somehow that they have nothing progressive to give to the world and all their abilities are to further screw things up.
(I only partially listen to what Merkel is up to, because I believe that if there will be any change in Europe – it will come from Germans in Europe)
In Ukraine situation is even more worse: they can choose between oligarchs, or puppets, or oligarcho-puppet combined, or they can choose etween variety of nazi-style freaks.
Nobody there really salutes, praises Poroshenko, yatsenyuk, etc.. Their only common ground is to hate Putin.. and of course criticize his every move.
i even heard there is a new song cover of Eric Clapton’s famous, and the lyrics goes like this:
She dont like, she dont like, she do t like … Putin :))
Take care and resist!
Greetings from east europe.
NATO just announced they will hold drills in Ukraine. If that is not pure provocation, I don’t know what is.
I was wondering, do any of you guys see Russia perhaps putting missiles pointed at the US in Cuba as a deterrent?
If NATO advances on Russia’s borders, why not respond in kind?
Consider the blood on the hands of the psychopaths in the West. They could have done nothing at all, and the Yanukovich regime would have yielded to another party in this year’s election.
Ukraine would still be united with a less damaged economy, and poised to cooperate with both East and West.
The Ukrainians were stupid, but The West was evil.
The truce will be violated by junta fascist elements instigated by the CIA. The same folks who shoot down passenger jets.
Putin’s basic goal is to disrupt any German / US unity and this ceasefire will do that for a while.
People do need to understand how weak Russia’s economic position is, otherwise they won’t be able to understand Putin’s actions.
@ 06 September, 2014 01:26
Larchmonter — concur. Russia has and has had the power to blow away the Ukrainian army at any time. Russia has only deployed (as it now seems confirmed) a few hundred to a few thousand of its best troops into Ukraine — a fraction of its true military power. There has LIKELY been artillery fired across the border to destroy the Southern Cauldron and S-300/400s used to shoot down the Ukie SCUDs. But we have not seen Russia use her airpower.
We have not seen an amphibious invasion of Mariupol or the coast which Russia could execute within 48 hours of the order. We did not see paratroopers dropped to completely cut off all Ukie forces east of the Dnieper. We have not seen the capable Russian forces in TransDniestr which have been beefed up destroy and mop up the Ukie formations facing them. In short, Putin has used the minimum level of force possible at every stage, the hallmark of a great strategist. It is terrible that the Donbas people had to suffer so much but now even the tiny pro-Ukraine unity minority left in Donetsk and Lugansk knows that Kiev has lost the Donbas’ people forever. There will be no going back. Although the people of Kharkov and many in Mariupol were spared the horrors that turned the Donetsk and Lugansk peoples into hardened fighters, they too will adopt either a federated solution in Kharkov or full separation in Mariupol to give Novorossiya her outlet to the sea. It will happen. Especially when the Ukie Nazis make the fatal mistake of one last desperate South Ossetia style assault. The next time Putin intervenes he may do so with the full might of Russia and there won’t be a NATO-funded and rearmed Ukie military left to menace Novorossiya’s borders any longer.
Larchmonter445,
Excellent post(01.06).
The truth is that we have a lot of commenters here (mostly from the developing countries) who would love nothing more than Russia and the West destroy each other, and leave them in charge.
So any caution on Putin’s part is anathema to them. Most of the dark nonsense about Russia being destroyed any minute now – unless it nukes America first – comes from these characters (Mohamed, folks from China, India, whatever). Not everyone here is rooting for Novorossia out of goodness of their heart.
I am pretty sure that the game played by Putin&Co is a bit too sophisticated and long term oriented for the casual observer with a short attention span.
Russia will probably base its game on establishing a contrast between prosperous, fully restored and built-up Donetsk/Lugansk duo and slowly sinking rest of Ukraine. Once that contrast becomes unbearable for the Ukies, they’ll embrace Russia again.
That may take a long time, but such is life.
I strongly suspect the cease fire is a ruse. Firstly to stop the headlong stampede of retreating Orks (good description there Auslander) who will bring with them news of the actual losses to the general public and how they were totally betrayed by the govt.
Secondly, this has to have come out of the impending NUTO summit in Wales (??) as a way to give the Kiev regime breathing space to re- equip & strategize, etc. The 1st & 2nd could well collide in the western heartland, leading to massive civilian (backed by returning conscipts & betrayed -in their view – Fascists) unrest. We could even see a repeat of the Romanian uprising against Ceaușescu, alas without Nuland, Ashton, Obomba, McCain, Kerry, Foggy, et al. But who knows who’s actually running things in Banderstan.
The NUTO officials supposedly trapped in Mariupol need to be paraded before the TV cameras (well one can dream) along with a lot of other shit that needs the light of day shined on them.
What will end up happening is a false flag will be used to kick start it again, blamed on the NAF & instead of the upper hand they have at present they will be on the back foot. Though Obomba has done a lot of damage to his “brand” but the Deep state will no doubt carry on regardless. And winter approaches, another reason for a “ceasefire”
Chris in Ch-Ch
Last thought for the night: @A_J_S_B and Guardian’s Shawn Walker are tweeting that despite the quiet in Mariupol combat continues for encircled Ukie units in Debalcevo, and there’s been no cessation of artillery fire at Donetsk by Ukie fanatics at the Ukie-held Donetsk airport who’ve already lost.
@GBazov says captured Polish mercs are being interrogated, hopefully Polish speaking Eastern Ukrainians are on the translations into English and Russian already and can post ASAP to embarass Radek Sikorski, Donald Tusk and the other liars in Warsaw who insisted Poland had no combatants in Eastern Ukraine and it would be a crime for a Pole to fight abroad without the government’s authorization.
Plus, the CIA’s favorite front think tank is unhappy about the ceasefire deal, which remains unpublished:

Hey all,
looks like a nice and cheap try to get troubles going for the Kiew government. But i doubt there will be a new successful Maidan as you need the power of the international press and political pressure from outside nations for a color revolution. But on the other hand the Ukraine forces and the facist stormtroopers might just take their weapons and perform a coup. But the question with this option is who controls them and what comes next? An Egypt solution with military dictator?
If this fails Russia can at least send aid and help for the civilians and the seperatists.
If the seperatists are overstreged its a good thing. If the enemy is in collapse and panic it might backfire in the long run.
Appreciate the long game. Ukraine’s economy and industrial capacity is seriously damaged, energy security a mess, far eastern regions in open revolt, and the south and near east will break away as soon as they know no GRAD will fall upon them. Time is not on the side of the nazi, winter is coming, and they were forced to call for a ceasefire. Let the poor people of Donbass prepare for winter and time will deal with the nazi.
Larchmont,
Some of us non-anonymous types are simply afraid that the Moscow elite are divided and full of those who care about money more than the long-term interests of the country. Moscow is also full of folks who simply love the West. It is not an attack on Putin. As for the masterful job done in the Crimea, I suspect the local elites and the Moscow elites saw the upsides in taking it and acted. The problem is when you have mostly downsides – like with Novorossiya.
So some of us just see Putin as a pragmatist, and part of that is not having a civil war in Moscow. Hence, many compromises. Still, Russia has played things pretty well. And Putin is on the road to being the great man you described him as.
It seems that this peace plan will go nowhere fast and that the cease-fire will likely end once prisoner exchanges aren’t made or soon after.
I say this because Poroshenko is selling this as his peace plan. The only peace plan he has proposed was back in June and that plan involved the rebels laying down arms and restoration of the border with Russia. Obviously, neither of these things will happen now and impasse will soon be reached.
Larchmonter,
re: Only ideologues who think one way don’t get the process that will unfold. Dugin, Sleboda, El Murid, Col Cassad. They want to use the full, direct force of the armed forces and blow away Ukraine.
That is no good. It will hurt Russia badly. Short term and long term.

There may be another reason that you might want to factor in to their thinking. Historically, Russia gets betrayed by its elites. Zhirinovsky said that at the event in the Crimea the other day in front of Putin. So, to many patriotic Russians, it may seem that the longer you wait and don’t use the military, who really are patriotic, the greater the chances that the traitors will find a way to sell the country out.
When you look at Novorossiya, the fighters are trying to build a non-oligarchical society. Russia is still largely dominated by oligarchs. Russian oligarchs probably liked the way the Ukraine was run, and that is a major reason why this mess occurred in the first place. They want to bring back the Party of Regions and business as usual.
@Larchmonter445
I agree with your views on Vladimir Putin and Mother Russia. We watch momentous events as Russia rises from the ashes to perhaps chart a new direction for humanity, new and different from the rapacious master/slave society in which we live.
You say you can judge a man by the men who fight for him. Capable men recognize principle, energy, intelligence, compassion and toughness. You may enjoy reading a bio of his Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu. He and Vladimir Putin are close friends.
Sergey Shoygu—A Bio-Sketch
“While Shoygu is more gregarious than Putin, the two leaders
share a number of similarities. They both portray themselves as
“real Russian men (muzhiks)”; down to earth; seemingly
unpretentious; cruel when necessary; and preferring
pragmatism over speculative thought. They both enjoy manly
pursuits like sports and hunting, and over the past decade, have
frequently vacationed together. If the many PR photos from
these excursions can be believed, the two men enjoy a close
friendship.”
Fwd from Canuckistan:
CBC is beginning to play up the “abducted” Estoinian angle as the “newly revitalized NATO’s” fofst big test.
Also noticed some tw*tter action about the Polish mercs with the proofs to some out really soon.
Plus it seems as if Yaros PR has released a statement along the lines of they don’t follow orders from Kiev because they are not a “legal” entity so they will continue fighting none the less. We can safely presume that the other “volunteer” battalions have different marching orders ’cause there ain’t no rest for the wicked and money don’t grow on trees.
There also seems to be some ongoing shelling away from the spotlight of the MSM, as usual.
It seems like Porkies days can be considered numbered, as they say…

Paul II
I came to this with fourteen years of nothing but negatives about Putin. I investigated his public record of work since 1999. How he used power, how he won in Chechnya, how he plans (like the winter Olympics and Sochi development, and how he reacted to everything. How he kicked out oligarchs, how he rebuilt the FSB, how he rewards and how he punishes. I watched videos of his speeches and press conferences. I watched him with other leaders. I watched his sing with Hollywood stars in the audience. I studied his allies and his enemies (I’m still doing this, reading books on it).
Of course, I have admiration for people who stand for principles. He has values that I like. And he has worked cleverly for peace not war. His moves in Syria showed me that he was up for any challenge. And how he pulled off Sochi and Crimea while they were stealing Ukraine away from Russia showed me he was not reckless.
So, I root for him and Russia and the good people of Donbass. I pray for them all. The human race needs the Hegemony of satanists to die. The globe needs a century of progress to lift billions out of poverty and misery. My country needs to kill its tyrants. Our government is thoroughly demonic and corrupt. Putin is our best hope.
The fifth columnists and Liberals in Moscow will be cornered by what Putin is doing. He will do to them what he did to the oligarchs. He will force their fealty to Russia or the West. If they don’t prove fealty to Russia, they’ll be sent to the West if they have not gone treasonous.
In Sicilian terms, the Don is testing the capos. Any that can’t be trusted will swim with the fishes.
Well, we came to the point to look at the eye of the another coming hurdle.
Former president of Ukraine Mr.Yanukovich was extremely corrupted president there is no question about it. The west let him steal as much as he can just to prepare the field and cumulate the really high level of anger from the ordinary citizens. These are the typical tactics of these psychopaths. Mr.Yanukovich naive in this game trusted to the west that anything will happen, he is going to be saved. At that exact moment when he supposed to send the army against the intruders he was playing the “softy” as Saker described in his earlier post.If he would send the army to encircle the snipers at the exact moment of the Maidan attack he would get the “corpus delicty” and the passports from the snipers what they were holding in their pockets / Ukraine/ Israel; USA/Israel ; Polish/ Israel citizenships + CIA head office at he government building/. Because he made this horrible mistake,/this was the biggest mistake in the history of Ukraine / now we have these horrible numbers of total attrocities and thousands of absolut deaths of the innocent victims.
Definitelly this dirty game is not over yet, the second round is already in preparation. Poroshenko agreed to have a peace / for now… / because of the extreme right wing coup was detected and exposed. Yes, Poroshenko is in fear for his life and he knows very well it is not going to be a good end. At the same time there are the preparation for the NATO excercise for the September and I’m sure we will hear more and more fabricated provocations against Russia.
Here is the link to listen, there are so many things mentioned here what was posted by Saker in his previous links. Thank you Saker to keep your torch of peace travel around the world. You are one of these hopeful lights what we need right now.

The NATO dogs may yelp and bark but I fully agree with what a commentator on RT news said , NATO does not have either the balls nor the military muscle to take on the Russian federation in a conventional war. Their only option is to try and achieve a sneaky nuclear first strike against Russia but apart from that you can forget it. The NATO scum are more used to carrying out “shock and awe” against weaker defencless countries but Russia is not Libya nor is it Iraq or Afghanistan, Russia too can also do “shock and awe”. The NATO rats are bullies and cowards and I do agree with Glazyev when he said that its in washington that Nazism will have to be defeated. In the long run washington will have to be dealt with for there to be any prospects of a genuine and lasting peace on this planet and I can guarantee you that if there was no washington all the current problems that the nations of the world are now facing such as al-CIAda, boko haram, ISIS, muslim “seperatists” in China, etc. can all be cleared up within a year. Cut off the head and the many tentacled serpent dies.
Who are following the ceasefire? Seems its like if you want to lay down your weapons and get killed you can. The nazi’s are not laying down their weapons and neither is the militia or other sepetraists who say they were not consulted. Seems like the small Russian recon force is going home and thats it.
Target Lugansk airport which was completely destroyed. No wonder they ran off, there is not much left to defend with.

The Minsk Agreement:
Three things only. Everything else is not agreed to.
1. Ceasefire, monitored by each Army and overseen by OSCE.
2. Prisoner exchange. All for all. 200 militia for 1000 Ukies.
3. Humanitarian corridors for Donetsk immediately. By truck. Later for the whole area by train. Russia is sending it under Int’l Red Cross.

Minsk: 3 Points of Ceasefire
The rest of the truce is to be worked on over the weekend and Monday but it sounds very scrambled and amorphous. It is either a total of 12 or 14 points, includes what Kiev wants or doesn’t and will give the Donbass what they want or it won’t.
Source:
Minsk:12/14 Points of Negotiation
I think this is going to go nowhere in the process. Basically, it is admitted that Kiev was desperate to end the fighting because their Army was deserting and there was no military goal they could achieve.
Concurrently, Putin wanted the bloodshed to stop. He must feel he holds the advantage and won’t lose it.
With NATO admitting Kiev has lost the war (blaming Russians for invading and changing the facts on the ground), and Porky unable to find another 40,000 countrymen to go die for him, it was time to raise the white flag.
Putin holds the advantage in the state of encounter. Russian ambassador on CNN said today of course Mariupol will be in the separatist state. It’s Donetsk oblast.
Negotiations is tactics. Ceasefire is negotiation time. This is winning without bloodshed. There is no way anyone is going to give the losers anything. Kiev admits it has lost. All that is left is the crying game.
Oh, and the inevitable overthrow of the junta by a worse piece of shit the US will prop up for awhile.
Porky will have to deliver some oligarchs to Putin to stay on the throne.
I suspect Putin is tape recording Surkov guiding Porky and the American handlers. He’ll use that later when that traitor is strapped to a chair in some basement in Moscow with his inquisition led by a highly skilled ex-KGB. (I just think Moscow will get cleaned up sooner or later of the Liberals and Fifth Columnists. I have no reason other than I don’t see how any leader and governing group can function with agents of destabilization paid for by your enemy working against the nation.)
I’m afraid things aren’t looking good. Many of the Novorossians and their supporters think Putin has caved into pressure. And word is that the Ukie’s are bringing troops and tanks into Slavyansk for a massive attack. The EU also has announced for Monday a large increase of sanctions on Russia.I don’t know what to make of this news.If Putin has caved to avoid the increased sanctions, its not working.Russia gets them anyway. And if the Ukie’s are using the confusion of all this. And that the NAF to be weakened to launch an offensive we could be in bad trouble.I’ve always thought that Putin should have acted at the start with peacekeepers to overthrow the junta. Now if he gets the sanctions no matter what he does. Then he should recognize officially Novorossia and send a lot of military hardware to defeat the junta once and for all.If the NAF is demoralized and loses faith Novorossia could collapse.
Another example of Baltic brilliance:

Currently Cover detained and against him are necessary investigative actions, reports ITAR-TASS.
Earlier on Friday, the Russian Ambassador was summoned to the foreign Ministry of Estonia “in connection with the abduction of the security services”.
Amusing coincidence, the capcha word for this comment is “recklessness”. :)

On Wednesday Obama gave a speech in Estonia warning that Russian aggression against Estonia could
trigger war with the US and NATO and on Friday Estonia claimed that Russia had abducted an Estonian officer and brought him back to Russia. Doubt if that’s true, but if it is, What’s going on? Is Putin having fun?
The nominal ceasfire takes away the problem of deciding (at the moment), whjether the NAF should ‘stick ot twist’ regarding their advance.
Think about it. The NAF could probably have advanced towards Kiev and precipitated a much more concrete, visible and official NATO involvement – would that help NR and RF? Would the PR ‘loss’ a visibly advancing NAF and RF force (as the MSM would declare) not further re-inforce the MSM stereotype of Russian ‘aggression’?
The DPR/LPR can now stabilise their positions and that of the civilian population, receive more aid from RF and leave Kiev to stew over their disastrous campaign – Kiev, politically, might implode and do the job of the NAF itself.
Of course, Kiev/US/EU/NATO can re-inforce/re-arm Kiev in the east – but will a ‘dug in’ NAF be easier to beat than the originally much smaller and less organised NAF of 4 months ago? I think not. Kiev/US would be pouring ‘treasure’ down the drain.
Vladimir Suchan’s take:
What was first a plausible assumption soon became a public secret and then a self-evident truth. Namely that Strelkov’s resignation was not a resignation, but a removal and a removal that was not imposed from within Novorossiya, but from without. At the same time, it is also true that not all the resignations were for the same reasons. That is to say, in contrast to Strelkov’s “resignation,” several other personal changes allowed more competent and effective people to step in.
Still, the replacement of the “first generation revolutionaries” of Novorossiya was dubbed by El Murid as demotion of the “romantics” who were replaced with “pragmatics” with whom the current ceasefire is possible. But not with Strelkov or Павел Губарев who resigned from his position yesterday after offering his alternative peace plan.
In this regard, many (including Murid) are convinced that Putin does want to have a “united” Ukraine (minus Crimea) and/or that, for this reason, Novorossiya has effectively been exchanged for a portion of Donbass (after even that was not exactly part of their original intention).
In this connection, it does seem to me that there has been noticeably less talk of the Donetsk and Lugansk PEOPLE’S Republics and more about “Novorossiya” and a gradual movement away from the original socialist or socialism-inspired ideas about the new state. In this respect, capitalist or bourgeois pragmatism does, indeed, seem to be saving itself from the revolutionary reality and potential on the ground. Sadly, though, developing a proper class analysis of the situation and espousing the demands and objective needs of the working people was and remains, in my view, the most fundamental and most effective strategy for combating Ukrainian oligarchy and its fascism. But, as Murid said in his latest interview, Vladimir Putin’s role has been that of the arbiter among (Russian) oligarchs, and, while Russian oligarchs are increasingly chaffing against these reins and looking to the West and Ukraine for new ideas, the new ceasefire in Donbass appears to be an attempted (inter/intra)oligarchic bargain. And both Gubarev and Strelkov (and especially Strelkov) were correctly seen as too honest, too incorruptible, and too firm for such an oligarchic arrangement (to which, however, the US still needs to give its final approval stamp).
Still, the prevalent consensus is that the ceasefire is and will be very unstable at best. Murid sees a second (and possibly much bigger) “Donbass war” in the cards at some point.
The fact is that most of the Ukrainians who went to fight against Novorossiya were led, in doing so, in order to defend all the territories of Ukraine–they did it for the “united and indivisible” Ukraine. But, this also means that, if they were ordered to go and fight for Crimea, they would go and fight as well–provided that there is some chance of success—and US, plus NATO support.
The ceasefire will, however, do nothing for combating or reducing anti-Russian feelings and propaganda in Ukraine. The currently used “political technologies,” which also brought about the current ceasefire, cannot do that. In this too, Murid is right–political technologies or tricks are no real substitute for sound politics or real strategies.

Looking at a map of troop positions, I count 12 battalions of which two (2) are regular Ukrainian army.
The commanders and funders of the other 10 were not present at the negotiations.
These include the Azov battalion which marches under the SS Wolfsangel.
Good luck with the ceasefire!

About Putin:
“-He´s an alpha man…”
Yes, he may be, but very sensitive too…. interesting combination!
“-…he will sing a song of love and comfort on YouTube when this all sorts out.”
Waiting for that song as rain in May!
Thank you for your post.
Buona giornata!

I am pretty sure that the game played by Putin&Co is a bit too sophisticated and long term oriented for the casual observer with a short attention span.”
How can you pretend to fight the fascist Ukies with this kind of racist speculation?
moscow is full of types who cares most about the new iphone than national interests…if russia wants to be more than regional power, as described by anerica, they have to stop playing defensive in every situation and stop seeing foreign policy as a beauty contest…they should know better something about western politics, as we’ve seen it in the case of serbia…if they are fixing you as enemy, there is no turning back, you’ll be enemy forever…

Dear Saker ,
look a this cease fire from the different perspective , it is being pushed by oligarchs and their bankers a.k.a. western bond holders/investors . They want to stop destruction of industrial assets . This fight went out of control and as a side effect is creating social revolution : one thing in common ordinary people from Lvov and Donetsk have -its their desire to get rid of oligarchs , debts and austerity , poverty . Look , government of Crimea took assets from Kolomyski and will auction them – WOW !!! How the lenders/bond holders will get their money back for the loans secured by Crimean assets ? Kolomyski could be broke in no time , domino effect ? Pres. Poroshenko is selling his Ukrainian assets as fast as he can , he knows whats coming . Just imagine , new government in Ukraine taking assets from oligarchs and refusing to pay back government owned debt . that would be in the range of 500 billions USD taken out of books/existence , it could crash western fractional reserve banking system ( Total gov. + private commercial debt/liability )
It appears to me that ordinary residents of ( what used to be ) Ukraine have a big hammer in their hands against big money sending them into war/poverty , they could turn the tables on oligarchs and bond holders/banks and just say NO to war and debt .
Social justice / revolution anybody ?
Mr . Mozgovoi sounds like someone who has no desire to be pushed by oligarchs . Chaos ahead – what I see .
Regards .
