The Armenian-Azerbaijani war continues raging in the South Caucasus.
As of September 29, the Azerbaijani advance in the Nagorno-Karabakh region struck the Armenian defense and Azerbaijani forces were not able to achieve any military breakthroughs. Armenian troops withdrew from several positions in the Talish area and east of Fuzuli.
The Azerbaijani military has been successfully employing combat drones and artillery to destroy positions and military equipment of Armenia, but Azerbaijani mechanized infantry was unable to develop its momentum any further.
While both sides claim that they eliminated multiple enemy fighters and made notable gains, the real situation on the ground remains more or less stable with minor gains achieved by Azerbaijani troops. Armenian sources say that 370 Azerbaijani troops were killed and over 1,000 injured. The number of killed Armenian fighters, according to Azerbaijani sources, is over 1,000. Armenian sources also note the notable role of Turkey in the developing conflict.
Armenian President Armen Sarkissian said that Turkey has been assisting Azerbaijan in its war against the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic with advisers, mercenaries and even F-16 fighter jets. He added that the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is still possible through dialogue. However, the President emphasized that the Armenian nation cannot allow a return to the past.
“105 years ago, the Ottoman Empire carried out the genocide of the Armenians. In no case can we allow this genocide to be repeated,” Sarkissian said.
Armenia threatens to use Iskander short-range ballistic missile systems obtained from Russia against Azerbaijani targets if Turkish F-16 warplanes are employed on the battlefield.
Meanwhile, Armenian Ambassador to Russia Vardan Toganyan said that members of Turkish-backed Syrian militant groups have been already participating in the conflict. He said that recently about 4,000 Turkish-backed militants were deployed to Azerbaijan. In turn, the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan said that “people who have arrived from Syria and other countries of the Middle East” are fighting on the side of Armenia. Earlier, pro-Turkish sources claimed that Armenia was transporting fighters from the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) to the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region. Thus, the sides are not only claiming that they are gaining an upper hand in the war, but also accuse each other of using foreign mercenaries and terrorists.
On the evening of September 28, the Defense Ministry of the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic confirmed that 84 of its troops were killed in the recent escalation. The Armenian side also claimed that its forces had shot down an Azerbaijani aircraft. However, this claim was denied by the Azerbaijani military. Baku continues insisting that all Armenian claims about the Azerbaijani casualties in the war are fake news.
On September 29, the Armenian side continued reporting about Azerbaijani helicopters being shot down, and declaring that they repelled Azerbaijani attacks. Nonetheless, the scale and intensity of the strikes by the Azerbaijani side did not demonstrate any decrease. On top of this, the Armenian Defense Ministry said that a Turkish Air Force F-16 fighter jet shot down an Armenian Su-25 warplane. The F-16 fighter jet allegedly took off from the Ganja Airbase in Azerbaijan and was providing air cover to combat UAVs, which were striking targets in Armenia’s Vardenis, Mec Marik and Sotk. Azerbaijan and Turkey denied Armenian claims that a Turkish F-16 shot down the Su-25.
So far, no side has achieved a strategic advantage in the ongoing conflict. However, the Azerbaijani military, which receives extensive support from Turkey, is expected to have better chances in the prolonged conflict with Armenia, if Erevan does not receive direct military support from Russia.
How Azerbaijan forces stack up more than Armenia’s
https://southfront.org/azerbaijan-and-armenias-forces-the-numbers/
Opportunist Erdo with his bruised ego over Syrian Idlib is hitching his ride to potentially a force odds on in his favour …allied to what he believes is a worthwhile turkman cause…using his experience that he has gained in Idlib supporting and supplying militants…thieving Syrian assets… training his troops against the Kurds?
These numbers are of no significance. Neither side is going to commit them all to combat. The Armenians have to guard themselves against any possible Azeri/Ottoman attack from the south and west and can’t commit their forces en masse to what’s even according to them a foreign country, “Artsakh”. The Azeris will use headchoppers on the ground and drones in the air at least or more than they use their own forces. They don’t have any fear of invasion so they can even commit more of their own forces than Armenia can, in any case. And if the report of an Ottoman F16 shooting down an Armenian SU25 is correct then the Ottomans are committed to the Azeri side and unless Russia intervenes right now there is no chance that Armenia can hold out anyway.
Azerbaijan has israeli drones. and who knows what else from that 2012 attempt to use their airbases to bomb iran deal. turkey through the guardian media is confirmed to be moving isis aligned fighters (they call them moderate freedom fighters) .
I’ve said this in the last article: in a war of attrition Armenia can never win. Being hardened to Modi regime propaganda, I’m familiar with the technique, so I’m ignoring the alleged figures given out by both sides as fiction aimed at the domestic market. At the same time, even if the Armenian forces (they’re Armenian, whether they call themselves Armenian or Artsakhian) are holding their ground now, with Turkey involved they’re exposing themselves to annihilation from air strikes each time they counterattack or advance. At some point these losses will cause the Armenian lines to implode and collapse totally. At that point Nagorno Karabakh is doomed. Remember that the Ottoman Azerbaijan Headchopper alliance can sustain losses far better than the Armenian side can. Since officially Nagorno Karabakh isn’t Armenian, there isn’t much Armenia can do except beg Russia for help, and even if it does Russia may not come helping.
It was stated by a few responses that Russian inaction was aimed at “teaching Armenia a lesson” about not flirting with the west. The only lesson Armenia will learn is that Russia is not an ally, in fact can’t be trusted, and will harden anti Russian trends in Armenia.
Let’s see if the Greatest Geopolitical Genius the Universe Has Ever Seen understands that.
Well, indeed Putin neglected the problem for 25 years. He overslept the rise of fascism in Ukraine too as we know. But…
And what about just letting Nagornyi Kharabakh go? Russia has absolutely ZERO obligation to defend it as she has no treaty with the subject! And I am 100% sure Baku will not attack Armenia itself, for the time being. That’s the clever calculation of mad Erdogan I suppose, and it is fully correct. The shitty Soros puppet brought by a color revolution has definitely weakened Armenia as a state. For years the Armenian army is trained by the US, a new “ally”. Russian schools were being closed, Russian TV channels banned. So this has had to come.
Consequences!
Way out? Joining the Union State with Russia even at a pace much quicker than Belarus. But wait, look at the map – Armenia has no borders with Russia indeed. Somehow Moscow would be better off with Azerbaidjan as an ally for the future to keep the Turks out and prevent any turmoil in Caucasus. That would bring a 3rd Chechen war!
… The next one is Kazakhstan (for learning a lesson and joining Russia).
It is a very “serious russian policy” that we have been seeing for many years. From the wars of the nineties in Yugoslavia, through Libya until today. First, you work with corrupt people in one country, and when the dissatisfied people take to the streets instead of directing protests in reasonable way, planting “your” new man, you allow angloamericans to take that country and lead your allies further. And then you decide to “punish” that country and people for own incompetence. Russia has a policy of “good manners” they sad, not interfering in the internal affairs of other states and works with elected governments. Or maybe it’s because you’re just playing a good cop and working on the same system. Where there is no interest, the allies are doomed, singing balalaikas to them that it will be better. They are f.e. to serious to spoil relations with the Vatican and German partners who buy raw materials for the sake of small Serbs. In the 1990s, while the West was dealing with Serbs, Russians were learning NATO tactics dealing with transition and creating a new old elite. From ideologues to capitalists. Where there is interest, like Venezuelan oil and gas, allies are protected. It doesn’t matter which system rules the country like in Africa. As with Westerners, interest above all. Libya was a competitor on oil and gas market. Syria has not been resolved to this date and it will not be so that gas flows do not pass through the permanent war zone. It will be the same with Azerbaijan. Armenia is an ally in the game of “balance of power” where flows from Azerbaijan through Turkey will be blocked. The Kurds are also in the game. On the other hand, they need Turkey in the Mediterranean because it is blocking the Israeli-Greek Albanian gas pipeline to EUrobia. A show program that will surely end with a great war as the scripture says, and you will not know who is at war with whom.
It does matter which system rules the country, if the system chooses NATO/EU integration like Armenia, if the system fights a NATO country (Turkey), then it is not Russia’s responsibility but NATO responsibility to protect the Armenians.
Same thing will happen with Serbia where they choose NATO/EU integration, nobody will protect the Serbs when Croatian/NATO and Ottoman hordes overrun the Serbs in Bosnia and it looks like it will because Bosnia’s Serb president Dodik is betting on the Croatian side (Croatia) as an allied against Izetbegovic, but they will fool him and have Dayton (with the Serb republic) abolished when NATO interferes and Ottoman mercenaries wreak havoc.
I agree with your thoughts about the leadership of Republika Srpska, BUT … we must also say that Dodik is a very good friend of Putin and russian leadership. He is the greatest Russian man among Serbs who on the other hand does business with Russian gas for Cermak, a Croatian general whose private company distributes gas. Man who is responsible for many deaths of Serbs in Krajina. So, there is no competitor to the globalism, mamonism only a good and a bad policeman. One hits while other cuddle the head. Black-red fascist elite sells socialism to the broad masses. The people are dying in Nagorno Karabakh, and elites on both sides are in contact with globalists. There are no more traditions, allies, nations, states … only the pragmatic interest of the black-red international.
I agree with djole. Many are disillusioned in Putin and the whole Russian leadership.
Same with Chinese. How does it benefit me if China is good as they claim? It doesn’t! Russia and China are just doing PR for their products. No difference vis-a-vis the West.
No one is listening to the US because they are broke, but also no one is following Chinese leadership – because why would they – China only acts selfishly in their own interests and doesn’t sacrifice even slightly for others. This is a big miscalculation from the Chinese. I bet they are wondering why no one is going to their side. Here’s the answer.
Only when China sends troops to protect smaller countries from the Empire, there will be a shift east. Only then.
Dear friend, we were waiting for the S300 divisions in the nineties, which never came. The Serbian army had weapons and people brought from all over Yugoslavia. People in reserve ready to fight if NATO goes by land, the only thing we could not cover was the sky. You see, in Serbia to this day there is a kind of people who call themselves Yugoslavs, which is absurd because there is no such thing. These are people who can be bought for money, for patting on the shoulder by the west. They have no nation, they have no religion, they only have their own interest. They are neither socialists nor communists, but rather red fascists. I think we find a similar disease in Russia. They seem to have taken care of our soul. However poisoned earth, tens of thousands people having lymphoma…..both Serbs and Albanians.
You see…..If we had offered angloamerican NATO vasals real resistance, I believe that there would never have been a further NATO massacre of other nations and states. At least not how it turned out. But the Russians or whoever stands behind them needed it to wear out Americans. To disgust them to as many countries as possible. America become (from the biggest creditor), biggest debtor. They are playing chees game for a regional power on the ladder of falling sh…it organised by global bosses, and people die. We turned out to be the only useful idiots who served the purpose as much as needed. Afterwards, angloamericans brought their people to power, and since then, Serbia has been a completely occupied colony. To which Putin brings medals from time to time giving them to our traitors. Interesting isn it?
Im pro VVP policy, but as Denzel said: this is chess not chekers!
Im pro Armenian too, but even nations have karma of their own..as dr Steiner saw 100 years ago..
If our brothers fight with heart, on their own force, everything is possible..there could be smth funny inside Iskander missles and S400 locked ;)
Given the Armenian state of US puppet state, this is a great turn of events for both Turkey and Russia.
Turkey can probably deliver a vicotry to their Azeri allies, and the Armenian loss will force the Armenian to run back to Mother Russia for protection. Because I doubt the current US administration is going to stop Turkey here.
So Turkey and Russia each score a win, Armenia looses and the US looses yet another clownshop it doesn’t really care about anymore. Having already lost the caucasus. So to the victors the spoils, and the great game goes one more turn.
You have now played for 600 years straght. Sleep is important. Are you sure you want to play one more turn?
What makes you imagine that Armenia, having seen the Putinist regime leave it in the lurch, will run back to Russia for protection instead of, for instance, signing a formal defence treaty like…oh….NATO?
The only reason the Turks and Azeris cannot destroy Armenia and exterminate Armenians is Russia and the Russian military base in Armenia
But Russia will not get involved in the war for the sake of Nagorno Karabakh
I think that an agreement is impossible and it might be a solution to put Nagorno-Karabakh under the control of some peacekeepers who would have a high degree of responsibility and a strong mandate
It would be best to bring the troops of the Russian Federation and maybe Belarus and Kazakhstan, so those of the ODBK group …
Remove the Turks from there permanently
The areas outside the N. Karabakh that are under the occupation of Armenia to be returned to Azerbaijan and the N. Karabakh itself to bring under the power of those peacekeeping forces that would then begin the process of some normalization … maybe the return of refugees if anyone more wants to return there ..
This has no end and everything just spins in a circle. People die
Maybe this idea could be some kind of solution that could be accepted by both sides and that the war would end permanently
And then let them negotiate forever if need be
