Just like the Titanic, the Ukraine is sinking faster and faster. By now, I expect that most of you must have heard of the quasi-insurrection in occupied Konstantinovka following the killing of a mother and child by a drunken Ukrainian APC crew. Accident can happen anywhere, of course, but the quasi-insurrection which took place following this accident is indicative of the rage and hostility of the local population towards their Nazi occupiers. The reaction of Kiev, however, was “picture perfect”: they blamed the accident on Russian provocateurs and flooded Konstantinovka with death squads.
Then there is the mini-war taking place between the “President” Poroshenko and the notorious Jewish oligarch Kolomoiskii over the control of Ukrtransnafta (read about it here and here). This is a clear sign of the deep process of “Somalization” taking place in which all the power in the country is divided between warlords. Kolomoiskii is probably a far more powerful figure than Poroshenko and he controls the “neo-Khazarian Ukraine” (southern Urkraine, Black Sea cost, Odessa region) and there are many who believe that he is the man who paid for the downing of MH17 (Kolomoiski admitted to this on a private video call by Skype). Still, he is ready to run should it be needed, and has therefore secured three citizenships: Ukrainian, Cypriot and Israeli.
As for the Ukrainian economy, it continues to behave like a 911 building and continues to tumble down at a free-fall acceleration.
One really amazing event took place recently. You might remember the name of the most prostituted journalist in the Ukraine, Savik Shuster, who used to be the most abject mouthpiece for the junta and who got fired (temporarily) for getting the journalist Maksim Shevchenko on air for 3 minutes. In a recent show, Shuster (who always had a fantastic talent to sense when the “winds are changing”) suddenly declared live on air:
One cannot blame Putin for what is going on with Hryvna!
One cannot blame Putin for what is going on with inflation!
One cannot blame Putin for what is going on with corruption!
One cannot blame Putin for the absence of reforms! There have been none!
No tax reform nor judicial! None!
Since Shuster has for years blamed Putin for everything and anything, no matter how ridiculous and far fetched, you can be 100% sure that if he is (yet again) changing sides it’s because he knows that the Ukie-Titanic is sinking really fast.
As for Novorussia, it is doing more or less as it was doing before. The junta forces are *still* shelling various towns and cities, and the recent assassination attempt against Givi clearly shows that the security situation is still not under control.
Finally, it is becoming more and more evident that Kiev has simply no intention of implementing the Minks 2 Agreement. That, in turn, means that yet another attack by junta forces is probably imminent, possibly preceded by a false flag.
Time has shown that at M2A Russia outmaneuvered Merkel, Hollande and Poroshenko and that M2A will never be accepted by the USA, at least not as long as there is a way to re-ignite the conflict and create tensions. The position of the USA is now crystal clear: they cannot allow M2A to be implemented, but since they cannot openly forbid it, they must create as much chaos and tensions around the Ukraine in order to shift the attention to some other issue. In other words – for the USA it is “the worse, the better”. And that puts the USA at a huge advantage over the other actors as it is far easier to create chaos and violence than it is to maintain any kind of cease-fire and agree on anything.
Again, the purpose of the next resumption in hostilities will not be to “win” against Novorussia or, even less so, Russia, but to create as much violence, chaos and hysteria as to keep the focus on big headlines. I suspect that by now the USA and their Nazi allies have already understood that not only will they not get Crimea or Novorussia, but that they are now looking at an eventual but inevitable loss of the entire Ukraine. In this situation the USA has always favored the “if I can’t get it, nobody else will” strategy and they will plunge the Ukraine in the strongest possible crisis.
As for the European “leaders”, their position is exactly the one of a dog on a leash. Their master, Uncle Sam, can and does give them some length of leash to play around, but that length of leash can be shortened at any second and there is absolutely nothing the Eurocretins can do about it. Even if they do, at times, pretend like they can have an opinion of their own, the reality is that none of them will dare defy the will of the USA. They will pull on the leash, some of them will bark a little, and then they will come to heel, like the good doggies that they are.
The Saker
Excellent analysis as always !
Analysis? SitRep? Or rather, SitProp? Well, have to admit there’s only two mentions of “nazi”, that’s a serious propagandistic slack!
By the way, I just came across an interesting report on FortRuss, Ukrainian volunteer battalions: composition and prospects:
And I found this interesting:
The Cross and the Sword – The Making of a Christian Taliban in Ukraine
This is about a Polish guy recruiting young men for fighting Russia. From the report, I cannot understand his motivation for this activity. What he professes as conviction sounds hollow. Is he simply a paid criminal Anglo agent and instigator?
excuse, sir, what are you here exactly meaning by the neologism “sitprop”?
or a crazy pole
It is incumbent upon Americans to end the repressive proto-fascist international terror that their governments have been responsible for. American butchery in Vietnam, Indonesia, Guatemala, several Arab nations, and its financing of the slaughter and robbery of the Palestinian people, and its destruction of its famous Middle class, represent the short list of American Oligarch crimes. The Oligarchs have murdered millions.
American citizens must destroy their imperialist oligarchs – through the revolutionary process of Restoring their Republic. If someone has a better idea, kindly let us know.
No matter how fine the Novorossiyan revolutionists are, and how determined Vladimir Putin and the other Russian leaders are to defend their nation, they will be immensely helped by the removal of the main enemy of the peoples of the world.
There is no way around this conundrum. Either we deal with the main purveyors of evil, or the world will continue to balance on the brink.
Helping to spread the truth is a great help, but out of the truth must come action! Intelligent action. Action with a historical connection to the roots of the founding of the American Republic.
Calling for the “Dictatorship of the Proletariat,” “workers councils,” or a politics free military rebellion will get us nowhere.
Restore the Republic that was lost on November 22, 1963.
Recover the Bailout $$ that was gifted to the Banker Oligarchs

Revive our economy.
Withdraw our troops from the rest of the world, and bring them home.

Peter, The USA’s always been a despicable Empire, and didn’t become one on 22 Nov 1963. The closest American people came to controlling their Empire was during the 1930s with the enactment of the Neutrality Acts. The implementation of the National Security State by FDR was designed to insure such citizen control would never occur again. The most recent attempt to exert–motivate–citizenry was the Occupy Movement, which was ruthlessly destroyed. I’ve engaged in numerous debates about violent versus non-violent revolution. Unfortunately, neither will arise within the Outlaw Empire, for similar reasons nothing of import happened to deter Hitler. The result is for the Outlaw Empire to be brought to justice–as the majority of the planet’s people desire–a robust coalition must form dedicated to its arrest and disciplining. Again, unfortunately, the need for such action’s been understood for several decades, yet nothing’s occurred in mounting such a bloc until very recently. But those blocs–SCO, BRICS, UNASUR–don’t admit to arresting the Outlaw as even a lowered priority!!
Until the actual Global Community gets enough courage to declare the Outlaw Empire’s existence and need for its arrest, it will continue to be an Outlaw and act as it has for the last 125 years.
Actually the National Security State was not implemented under FDR but rather under Truman, as described at The U.S. National Security Act of 1947, the Origin of “Plausible Deniability” and the Assassination of JFK.
Serendipity,
Yes, it was signed into law by Truman, but like the ill-named Patriot Act brought into readiness during Clinton’s regime, the 1947 National Security Act was prepared under FDR’s supervision, just as the Cold War was started by his policy decisions in early 1942. Chomsky has long referred to the USA’s “Imperial Planners” who are part of the unelected bureaucracy and mostly responsible for the actions we observe.
As with JFK, a mythos was woven around FDR’s regime contrary to its realities. An important clue analogous to the dog that didn’t bark was allowing the 1934 fascist coup plotters to walk away while the press was muzzled about the entire event. A second was the demotion of Henry Wallace as Vice-President for the 1944 election and choice of the very pliable Truman as replacement.
Have you ever seriously tried to understand why North Korea’s leaders act the way they do toward the USA specifically and West in general? Contrary to M*A*S*H*, the USA waged a war of genocide against the Korean peoples North and South–70% of Koreans were slaughtered mostly by Lemay’s air bombardment. Very few people know of that reality, and Hollywood propaganda insures few ever will.
I would place the overthrow of the US Government on December 23, 1913. Until that time, since the turn of the 19th century, the US had been locked in an on-again-off-again war with the bankers for control of the federal money supply. On that date the Federal Reserve Act was voted on in a covert congressional action. Since that time the bankers have consistently and diligently worked to overthrow all vital US institutions of material significance – the press, the banking/financial industry, corruption of Congress, establishment of a national security state, the coup of 1963, and finally 9/11 which was to serve to bring all these together by destroying the US Constitution and the consolidation of America’s wealth.
A recent study has clearly shown that America is not a Republic, but instead an oligarchy, an oligarchy that has now become more brazen, outwardly confident and immensely arrogant in its establishment of a system in which these bankers and their many bureaucratic minions are free to gather the wealth of the nation through illegal means without fear of the law.
Victor, IMO the most important “coup” in US history was the first one in 1787 that overthrew the government based on the Articles of Confederation and installed what would become the Imperial President as the chief magistrate. At that point, the general citizenry lost control of their destiny. Washington and Adams used their Imperial status very little. Jefferson was the first to use it quite often as he went about expanding the nascent US Empire. Did the establishment of the Federal Reserve System constitute a coup? I would argue no. The USA was already safely in the hands of the contemporary oligarchy as Kolko proves in his “Triumph of Conservatism,” so no coup was required.
It is perhaps ironic but while most republicans in congress are subservient to the oligarchy, it is American conservatives (many have abandoned the republicans and joined with the Libertarians) who are most awake and most deeply opposed to them. Even Pat Buchanan recently wrote an article titled: Republicans are the Party of Death.
http://www.paulcraigroberts.org/2015/03/18/republicans-party-death-guest-column-pat-buchanan/
Republicans are increasingly unpopular with traditional conservatives (as, of course, are the democrats).
An older but excellent tome as I recall reading some 30 or so years ago. Glad to see it is still referenced. The US needs to look to it’ own and other historical revolutionary examples. Of course the only revolution it is safe to talk about in the free world are one’s that happened 2-300years ago. Talk of revolution today lands you in the same place it did then-gaol.
RR
That’s because before the “Korean War” Korea was the most Christian nation in the world. Just as before the “Vietnam” war THAT nation was the most Christian nation in the world. The U.S. can call itself a Christian nation all it pleases but it is still a lie. There is nothing in our law whatsoever that promotes or even defends Christianity.
No, not ’30s. The only time people were close to controlling the US was under Jefferson, when he “killed the bank.”
The whole Great Depression and events after it was fully controlled for the purpose of redistributing the industry into the “right hands” and taking the gold off people’s hands.
Yes, the main goal for Rousvelt was to take your gold, rebuilding the country came next.
Your passion and ideals are to be commended. But I must ask, are you an American citizen? Do you reside in the land of the slave and home of the timid?
Inspite of the decay of the middle and working classes’ standard of living, a true rate of unemployment above 20%, one in four children living below the ridiculous poverty line, the complete disregard of the nations constitution, disregard for individual rights and the rule of law in general. Inspite of militarized police forces, who view the citizenry as their enemies and kill with impunity, the increased role of the national guard in suppressing all forms of dissent, despite the obviously blatant lies of so-called representatives of the people, of being treated like retarded imbeciles, do you see any signs of a mass, organized movement for reform or dissolution of this shitty system. Here in the USA? This organized criminal cartel?
Take a drive through suburbia and witness those still part of the middle class. The glutonous consumers in their gas guzzelling SUV’s, talking on their mobile phones, oblivious to the world around them. Happily isolated in their own little universe, totally self absorbed. Their spoiled, dumbed down children complaining along. Folks who could not survive more than a few days under conditions 80% of the world’s population are forced to endure. So that suburban family can take much more than they need. Thoughts beyond me never crossing their puny minds.
Please do not retaliate that the permanent underclass will carry the banner. They have been dumbed and beaten down to the point where they supress their plight far more than they are repressed. They are for the most part mind controlled into destroying their culture and society for their jailers. They become unknowing supporters of the system by the choices they make.
Sorry to rain on the parade but if you truly believe the “revolution” will be led from and by Americans you have an awakening coming. The majority of whom could not give a s#!t.
@ Anon,
Q; Sorry to rain on the parade but if you truly believe the “revolution” will be led from and by Americans you have an awakening coming. The majority of whom could not give a s#!t.
R; That statement deserves a standing ovation.
Before the Iraq invasion, a majority of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents opposed the invasion absent a clear finding of WMD by weapons inspectors.
Before the destruction of Libya, 80% of citizens opposed any military involvement in that nation.
As Syria ramped up, a 60% plus majority opposed any military involvement in the attack on that nation.
Even after the Obama administration blamed the Syrian government for the poison gas attack, most citizens opposed any military action. The opposition was so strong, Obama’s war resolution was likely to fail in the House and Senate.
Citizens of the United States are not beaten down folks without any awareness or will. Given even a little real information, they generally make the right choice.
The point people miss is vital to understand: the will of the people doesn’t matter. Rather, the manufactured will is all any administration needs to justify its actions. There will be no grass roots uprising because the powers that be have very efficiently cut off any opportunity for even low level leaders and small movements to emerge.
At some point, there will be a sequence of issues with the ruling elite on one side and huge majorities on the other. That’s when something like real reform can happen.
Has anyone read about the military exercise to be conducted later this year against a “hostile” Texas and Utah? While the document regarding these exercises tries to deny any real intention of military operations within the US, they have long prepared for such a possibility. They are well aware of the animosity many traditionally conservative populations hold toward them. They also realize these people are willing to fight for freedom and constitutional government. I do not think the seriousness or determination of these people should be dismissed.
This kind of planning and documentation by the feds leads many people to stock up on weapons, ammunition, food and water, etc. Every time the feds do something crazy gun sales soar, not coincidentally. I suspect there are far more people willing to take up arms against them than is readily apparent, although not yet a majority.
Things could change quickly under the right circumstances. Their success in disarming the public before that time is key, which is why they are so aggressively pushing gun control. (Obviously if they wanted to create more peaceful streets the police would not be so frequently brutalizing and gunning down harmless citizens with complete impunity.) If they did not fear a violent uprising – and a successful one at that – gun control would not be an issue, nor would they be conducting mock operations such as this on American soil, in civilian areas:
http://www.infowars.com/feds-preparing-to-invade-texas/
I have to agree with Karlof. The idea that we ever had a democratic republic, and more, that it died in 63, is juvenile.
The death of Kennedy was the result of infighting amongst the elites.
@ Peter J. Antonsen,
Since its inception this nation has been involved in a [self] perpetuating state of war.
The 0,1% has learned their lesson since the French Revolution [all 3 of them]; do not hesitate to unleash all hell on your populace [including, but not exclusive, a rampaging army].
Furthermore, who’s going to lead all this?
PJA: “It is incumbent upon Americans to end the repressive proto-fascist international terror that their governments have been responsible for.”
Good to see someone being honest and explicit about the identity of the enemy, viz. the USA state. (Props to the Saker too for being upfront about this enemy in his piece at the top.) It would be funny if it weren’t so tragic and urgent, the way so many who should know better (and probably do) go into all kinds of verbal contortions, even here in the Vineyard forums, to avoid stating this blindingly obvious truism, indulging in decoy talk of “the EU”, “the UK”, “Mossad”, “the Jews”, the “Anglozionistas” the Rockerfellers, etc. etc. That’s not to deny the role these pawns play in the USA’s machinations, but not to mention the core enemy is massively self-delusional or devious or both. It wouldn’t be so tedious if there were more sincerity about “the USA” too.
“American citizens must destroy their imperialist oligarchs – through the revolutionary process of Restoring their Republic.”
Yes, you’re right, the citizens of the USA have to look into their hearts and discover courage and then learn to build organs of opposition and combination. The auguries aren’t good, when a professedly progressive city like Boston can be cowed so easily in “lockdown” at the snap of a ruler’s finger.
Didn’t mean to post that as the ubiquitous Anonymous. (Wouldn’t necessarily want to be mistaken for another one!)
Thanks for understanding my comments. American President John F. Kennedy died defending the Republic. His brother Robert, and ML King, and Malcalm X, died, attempting to restore the Republic.
Numerous others, such as Fred Hampton and John Lennon, made the ultimate sacrifice as they attempted to restrain the Oligarchs. Lennon’s anthem (the finest song/prayer of the 20th Century), was his last will and testament.
There is much truth to the other commenters, Karlof1, & Serendipity, added information and critiques. The United States rulers engaged in numerous crimes against Native Americans, Africans, and citizens of Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, and Cuba, among others, long before November 22, 1963.
*The key point* is that the Oligarchs were forced to confront and murder an elected American President, John F. Kennedy, and overthrow his government, as well as to establish a Whitewash “Warren Commission,” stacked with 12 officials of the CIA & Earl Warren, to ensure their criminal tracks were covered, – as late as 1963. After the Coup d’etat in Dallas, the Oligarchs have been firmly in control of the American political process. They have never looked back.
After the Watershed Coup of 1963, each succeeding American government and phoney unconstitutional President has been more depraved and reactionary and in the service of the Oligarchs. The latest servant, (Obomber – the best spelling of his phoney name), is nothing more than a Hollywood Actor, who was hired to impersonate a Constitutional President.
The 2016 electoral circus is upon us. We have an opportunity to offer an alternative to the imperialist Oligarchs, and fashion an Alternative Government.
Restore the Republic! IMAGINE
With the Shuster comments one can only expect the flood gates of criticism to open wide against the Poroshenko bloc. Few are the journalists with spines, especially in banderite Ukraine, but once they know they won’t be alone, more and more will finally “find their voice”. The breaking of conflict between Kolomoisky and Poor ol’ shenko into the public sphere can only mean the gloves are off.
The interesting question will be how much of the current government will be consumed in the next round of oligarchical chairs. Obviously Poroshenko’s on the outs but will Yats go too? It seems to me he has been courting the middle ground enough to still be on the elite’s good graces and has proven fanatical enough to please the Americans. Either way it sure is stacking up to be a truly brutal train wreck…
I read an exposure of Yat’s use of the IMF loans…fraud…I hope he leaves too. He’s creepy.
Scientology-creepy…dark forces for sure.
@ Don Wiscacho,
Q; Few are the journalists with spines, especially in banderite Ukraine…
R; Given what the prestitude gives us elsewhere, they’re no exception. Add to that the chance of really being murdered and I think many more individuals would become very reluctant to speak the truth. Wouldn’t you?
I, don’t know the answer to that question, myself.
“Few are the journalists with spines, especially in banderite Ukraine, but once they know they won’t be alone, more and more will finally “find their voice”.
Well, provided Shuster is not defenestrated, like seven prominent members of the Party of Regions in February.
Another analogy for Europe would be to a b!tch being ill treated by its pimp. Sometimes she understands that her situation is shameful, but she just can’t break free. Europe will do what a b!tch does best: swallow. Swallow her pride, and keep on being ill treated. The US will keep on cashing on her. And Russia, whatever pity it may resent, will name her for what she is.
Americans, Europeans, we’re all in the same boat…our countries are run by criminals. There’s been a take-over.
We just have to try to organize our lives to withstand what’s coming….I hardly think there’s going to be an organized up-rising that marches to the White House and takes it over. I’d like to see it, but it would be scary being a marcher….
I suppose there will be some military action soon, but Ukraine’s ability is obviously limited, and I suspect the US won’t invest anything more than is required to keep NATO appearing strong, and Ukraine in chaos for the plucking. Accidents and overreach can happen of course, but when the dust settles I hope that the most accomplished will be that NAF has enlarged its territory. It would be glorious to see Mariupol come home, for example – but this is just an armchair wish, I trust Russia and Novorossia to do the right things on the ground at the right time.
Mostly I think the stories of the summer will be economic and oligarchic. The Ukrainian oligarchs will hustle and fawn around the global oligarchs for commissions and pieces of the action as the world’s rich people strip all the assets from Ukraine, down to and including its rich black soil – which I think will be gone within 2-3 years, either strip-mined and exported or dead from GMO treatments, probably both
During all this land-sale bonanza, the Ukrainian oligarchs will leap at every opportunity to kill and dispossess each other. There will be much sound and fury, signifying nothing, except for occasional adjustments made to offshore numbered bank accounts and real estate holdings.
For the ordinary people, life will be madness. We will see again and again that the innocents exist only to be massacred, seemingly. I don’t know if a true worker’s revolution could come out of this class war, but in a noble world it would arise in a blaze of righteous rage.
most of the workers are in the army.
I think even more are hiding from mobilization. On a slight tangent but related, FortRuss has an interesting new piece showing that among the military of Ukraine the Volunteers only number 10,000. This surprised everyone. It gives rise (to me at least) to dreams of coup d’etat by the real army – most often the handmaiden of the landlord but occasionally the sword arm of the tenants.
Perhaps all to the good. If they get pissed off enough for a revolution, who’s going to stop them?
Stripping the black earth from Ukraine in 2-3 years?
I shake my head at some of the things written here. If there is say 100,000 sq. miles of black earth that is 2 yards deep, that would be 619 billion cubic yards. With a fleet of 3000 front end loaders, it would only take 1000 years tomove that much soil.
There you go being logical and factual again.
Make some room for wild hyperbole, Andrew.
The nazis were sending the chernozyom by trainloads to Germany.
LOL, I like the last sentence of this post the most !
Comparing Euro-cretins to doggies is not fair to dogs. As far as I know, dogs do not have free will but euro-pets do.
I think, and I think Russia would agree, that all the noise, flase flags, propaganda, and excuses count for little, so the reasons behind Russia’s action or inactions must be deeper. The public noise may impel or constrain the empire’s moves to some extent, but I should think that finances, organizing with other nations, building up military and resources, and so forth drive delaying or covert actions. I.E. — playing chess instead of poker, where bluffing doesn’t get one far at all. But I’m fuzzy as to the particulars of the reality-based moves underneath it all — although I suspect that Russian internal politics has much to do with it.
What concerns me if there is a further outbreak of fighting is will the UAF have the weapons purchased from UAE, and will this create problems for NAF?
Also there at that there is a lot of talk about them taking more ground but my concern here also is about hostile communities who may not want to have them there
Is it not better just to defend what you have and make sure that is secure what do people think?
@ Jane,
Q; Is it not better just to defend what you have and make sure that is secure what do people think?
R: It’s easy to be a laptop commando or an armchair general and tea leaves are of no help either.
From a pure strategic pov NR needs a vast buffer zone [DMZ] between its [not yet fully defined] borders and the Kiev Killer Kommandos’ territories.
Logically NR wants all of the Lugansk and Donetsk areas to be united [kick out the KKK] and rest along its natural borders.
Mariupol would be a strategic city to have [for both NR. as well as Russia].
Whatever happens, it will involve fighting and with the ongoing thaw, a ‘blitzkrieg’ by either side is out of the question [for the moment]. I guess we will see more movement/fighting toward the end of April, beginning of May [and then onward].
Also keep in mind the fact that the NR forces technically [numerically] would not be a match for the Ukrainian Army, Navy and Air force [although the first and last have been particularly hit hard].
But fighting for your own land outmaneuvers fighting for the soil of someone else. That’s more or less a lost cause.
More blood will flow, that’s for sure.
The vast, vast, majority in the Donetsk and Lugansk occupied areas are waiting for liberation from the fascists. And there are large numbers throughout the other Oblasts of the Southeast that feel the same. So,no,it wouldn’t be “better” to leave those people to the mercy of the Bandera death squads. And to their children being brainwashed further into Russophobes.
Jane, the dificulty is that what NAF already has is being shelled, so that a normal life, let alone development, is imposible. Even if NAF takes all the historic Novorossiyan territory (up to the Dnieper River) plus Odessa, US will continue to import weapons and fighters to continue the conflict.
So the problem for Russia is how to STOP the conflict. Agreeing to settle for just what they have won’t stop it. An actual treaty enforced by Russian peacekeepers would, I guess, since it’s working elsewhere.
I wd guess the next stage is some legitimizing action by Ukrainians– as in voting oblast by oblast to join Novorossiya.
How can they vote? any attempt to organise a vote would be beaten down by the death squads. Look what happened in Konstantinovka… a child killed by a drunken soldier, the people get upset and shout a little, the death squads come in to arrest people including the journalist who dared to take photos of the crash.
But similar is happening at protests about anything in the other areas, too. Areas where people thought they were not separatists, where they still hate the Moskals or believe their sons are being killed by Russian soldiers. . But they are learning to hate the death squads even more. There is a small chance they will change their minds if a NAF team liberates them from the Nazis, and proves they’re not Russian invaders by speaking to them in Ukrainian.
Obviously NAF wd have to safeguard the vote following on public demonstrations and fighting. The call by NAF for extensive volunteers is obviously meant to draw upon other regions, and why should they fight for the liberation of DPR & LPR unless they plan to share in it?
Remember that they’ve already declared themselves the sequel of an earlier political entity which had more territory, and they CANNOT occupy this area as invaders, therefore they must do it transparently as the will of the people. So the people of other regions have to “speak” politically and militarily. The rest of Lugansk & Donetsk had the referendum earlier, of course.
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-03-20/vladimir-putin-proposes-eurasian-currency-union
One person who is paying attention to the failure of the US to grasp that the unipolar world of the 1980s is long gone, is Russia’s Vladimir Putin, who earlier today proposed creating a “Eurasian” currency union which would have Belarus and Kazakhstan as its first members, which already are Russia’s partners in a political and economic union made up of former Soviet republics.
I’m not sure about a currency union. When a state gives up its own monetary policy it gives up a lot of sovereignty. Plus, whichever currency is chosen it’s already not a sovereign currency since it’s controlled by the international banking cabal thru the IMF.
IMF calls this an “independent” central bank and currency– which means independent of the people’s representatives & controlled by themselves.
What are good, fact-based Stalin biographies? With fact-based I mean relying on contemporary records as far as possible, doing without pure ideological judgements. And if it coincides with well writing, all the better. (Anyone who liked any of Irving’s biographies knows what I mean.)
“Stalin: The Court of the Red Czar”, by Simon Sebag-Montefiore.
Thanks. I checked out the Guardian review at
http://www.theguardian.com/books/2003/jul/20/biography.features
which ends with:
“Thanks to Simon Sebag Montefiore, there is no longer the slightest justification for thinking of Joseph Stalin as anything other than a monster.”
I don’t know a lot about Stalin really, but this broad-brush statement sounds similar to how Western intellectuals refer to other leaders who – after due research – turn out to be pretty decent people – especially compared to those who are presented as heroes.
The one by Geoffrey Roberts was excellent… I think it’s called “Stalin’s Wars”. (It’s not exactly a biography though, not by the strict definition of the term.)
Thanks.
This looks like well worth a read and I might start with this, although, judging from reviews, it seems to concentrate more on Stalin’s great achievements, and less on his ruthless actions, as the latter are (presumed to be) common knowledge.
It’s a post Cold War book (2007), and should thus allow for some more emotional distance, honesty and less bias than earlier books.
For an iconoclastic view of Stalin based on a literal reading of Soviet archives, on the assumption that they meant what they said, you might try “Khrushchev Lied” by Grover Furr, available through Amazon. He set out to investigate the 64 separate assertions he counted in Khushchev’s secret 1956 speech denouncing Stalin, expecting to find maybe half or so unsubstantiated. To his consternation he found 61 of them entirely contrary to what the Soviets themselves recorded at the time, and the other three so vague and general as to be unverifiable, all of which he documents at great length. He was rather mortified by the result, realizing nobody would believe in his objectivity with such overwhelming results. Doctor Furr is a professor of Medieval History at a state university in New Jersey, who seems to have an avocation of reading Soviet Archives in Russian. As you might guess, his finding are somewhat controversial.
This seems to be a book refuting (Khrushchev’s) claims about Stalin’s ruthlessness point-by-point, so I doubt the result will read very much like a biography.
“Stalin: history and criticism of a black legend” by Domenico Lossurdo ( probably available for free download on the net ).

The next offensive from the Ukies will be a heavy, well-commanded (by contractors) armored surge. They will really hurt the militia in the first days.
The entire history of the war is the initiative is always with the Ukies.
This offensive will be more powerful because the West sees no long term hope without a fast and very damaging attack, and then a call for a quick ceasefire and Minsk 3 while the militia is on its back foot.
I also suspect the Ukies will put as many operative planes into the fight also.
Naturally, the attack could be allowed to probe deep and then a swift cauldron closure could trap the Ukies.
But the militia has obeyed the agreement and its heavy pieces are far away.
I hope the Russian generals have a surprise for whatever happens.
But it will be the heaviest action in the shortest time.
I agree that’s the pattern so far, on the surface. But Zakharchenko himself has said explicitly that NAF will act preemptively if and when it chooses, in the face of Minsk 2 violations – and violation is now the commonly agreed reality. So, maybe NAF will appear to be reacting to provocations, but in reality it will be conducting its own war plans long prepared – as it did with Debaltsevo and indeed last year leading up to the Minsk 1 ceasefire. Whether it appears to act preemptively or reactively will depend solely on its objectives.
When Ukraine makes a move against Novorossia, it encounters a Russia that has long expected it.
The extremely sad part about all of this is that human life accounts for nought, I struggle to believe/understand how anybody can do this to people, it make me ashamed as a westerner (Australian) that the USA and its European supposed leaders carry on with their lives as though this is the normal thing to do.
Zagame. I agree entirely. In NZ this sort of crap is not even contemplated as likely or as something anyone other than a criminal would be involved in. I am afraid that since the false flag downing of MH17 by , lets be honest, the USA and their ally Ukraine, the whole scenario has played out like a bad movie. With friends like Washington who needs enemies. I believe at the heart of the matter is ‘big money’ The western states are basically so in debt that they are bankrupt and the only way out for them is to create the chaos of war so that they can hide their financial transgressions and justify the austerity and hardship that is about to be heaped on Joe Public so that the elite can keep their ill-gotten wealth. Have you noticed how both Australia and NZ have recently elected governments that are little more than American poodles? How NZ and Australia have advanced their surveillance state using “terrorism ” to justify it? Sadly even down here in the South Pacific the nasty side effects of the US/ European/UK financial elite’s desperate attempts to hold onto financial power, in the face of the rise of China and Russia, are destroying our relatively balanced society
Germany is far from Bankrupt it runs a big trade surplus. The US and UK though are heavy borrowers but their states take on no debts in foreign currency.
Interesting though,Ike that we here in NZ have joined the AIIB , which diminishes the power of the US influenced World Bank and IMF.
As to the wallies we’ve ended up with for PMs, I reckon its part of the roll out for all the 5 eyes nations. Key is chairman of the IDU, the international Democratic Union, sounds nice, eh? , but its a right wing cabal dedicated to fostering the advancement of other right wing parties in the world, and helping each other electorally.
Abbott, Key and Cameron all used the dirty tricks PR co. that Nicky Hager exposed in The Hollow Men…..Crosby Textor.to win their elections. Cameron is using them again this year.
Good to see there are other NZers on this thread, sorry it took me a day to get on to it!!
Excuse me, I don’t mean to be critical, but Australia & NZ are treating their native peoples as bed as the Indians were treated in US.

You might want to have look at “Stalin: Man of History”, by Grey, Ian (1979), Abacus Books, Reading UK.
Recommended as an impartial and objective biography of Iosip Vissarionovich Djugashvili, by Canadian author, Stewart Parker, in his bibliography to “The Last Soviet Republic-Alexander Luikashenko’s Belarus”(2007).
I have read Grey’s book, and my impression is that Stewart Parker’s assessment of Grey’s book is valid. There are numerous references to Soviet Archives and to various biographies of Stalin. Grey’s book is well written, clear and informative.
I have also read Grey’s book. It’s quite a hagiography. Noble, modest, tirelessly working Stalin. I’m not saying it’s a bad book. I wasn’t bored reading it. Also, it’s the only Stalin biography I have read so I’m in no position to somehow “judge”. It’s probably not worse than reading some rabid righteous Stalin basher’s book. So why not read this one? Politically incorrect in its positive look on Stalin, but who cares? Stalin modernized Russia – brutally, but successfully. You can complement your lecture by reading other sources.
For example, one interesting thing Grey won’t tell you about is Stalin’s plans for transeuropean roll-out of bolshevism by means of the Red Army. That’s where Viktor Suvorov’s “Icebreaker” comes in, which I’m currently reading.
I’ve been thinking of Putin’s 10-11 missing days.
Perhaps, it was a trap to capture communications of Liberals, Western Intel operatives and Fifth columnists, all of whom would have been going nuts by whatever communications modes they could access. It would have been nearly impossible to stay silent on their part, anxious, inquisitive, manic to find out if there was an opening to move, a coup, illness, death, whatever their imaginations could dream up during that period.
It would have smoked out everyone and their networks.
I think Putin and the FSB had a field day(s) during his absence.
Datastreams like premature ejaculations have their uses.
Boom! Right on target. Another excellent anlysis . In likelyhood the events will develope/degenerate just about as described in this once again, excellent SITREP.
Truth be told here……it’s sad but real….thanks
Finding it difficult to understand why there is (1) not greater reportage of westward and southward streams of refugees from Banderastan and (2) emphasis on promoting (1) by anti junta forces…
Cortes, there’s no coverage of refugees leaving Ukraine cuz it doesn’t fit the US/EU/UK narrative. These people are officially freedom fighters fighting against a “Russian invasion”– NOTpeople being persecuted by their own govt & certainly not fleeing to avoid conscription to a fight they don’t believe in.
Whatever doesn’t fit MSM “storyline” is just omitted.
Southward there is only Crimea.
Westward? there’s Hungary, a fair few from Transcarpathia have gone there to escape being drafted; many there are ethnic Hungarians and Hungary is treating them as asylum seekers, not illegals. A bit north-west is Poland, where thousands of Ukrainians go to work on a regular basis, but where the borders have been tightened because too many were going over.
The majority of draft dodgers went to Russia, where it’s easy to go in and where they, too, have been given extended-stay privileges.
The refugees from the actual fighting have gone about 1/3 to other areas internally, and the rest to Russia.
There was some coverage of all these refugees. They stopped about the draft dodgers as soon as they saw how ridiculous it is for people to be running to the “enemy” for refuge.
I just read a fascinating article about a massive problem at:
http://russia-insider.com/en/2015/03/19/4707
Demobilization Could Create Massive Problems for Poroshenko
Demobilized soldiers will face serious problems in civilian life. Many of them have lost their health. And with high unemployment, smooth integration to civilian life looks doubtful
[…]
Conclusions
The demobilization is yet another test for the junta. The soldiers can’t be held indefinitely. New legislation will only delay the inevitable. The most recent battles show that the soldiers’ morale is very low, which in combination with the low level of training yields minimal results at the front.
Judging by everything, the morale situation is so catastrophic that the junta will have to conduct mass demobilization to prevent the apathy toward service from erupting into mutinies. The junta will try to minimize its impact, but it will decrease the size and battleworthiness of the UAF. I can’t imagine how the UAF leadership proposes to increase troops levels at the front. And you can forget about their quality. Even maintaining current numbers will be a challenge.
[…]
J.Hawk’s Comment: The junta has a genuine “use it or lose it” incentive to try something in the next few months. Keeping unmotivated, unpaid troops under arms leads to tragedies like Konstantinovka. Therefore they have to be either sent home…or thrown one last time against Novorossia.
[…]
You mention that Kolomoiskii admitted in a private Skype message that he paid for the shooting down of MH17. This is a huge claim. Do you have a verifiable source for this please.
See this video: http://youtu.be/NrfKZUttEwE
Thank you for that reference. As I understand it however, he says that it was a mistake, the “wrong plane” which happens all the time. Very callous certainly. But that is not the same as admitting that he paid for it, which was the original suggestion.
A good article on the subject:
Part 1
Ukrainianism: A Cancerous Tumour in the Russian World… Banderovtsy: The Result of Ukrainisation
That isn’t OK with us… we ARE Moskali!
(Moskal: Galician pejorative for Great Russian, mostly redeemed by Russians today… are we Moskals? We are! Whaddaya gonna do about it?)
The Ukraine! The native land of my ancestors who fought for the Russian land, for the Orthodox Faith, of the host found in the ancient Lay of Igor! Blessed land! For a long time now, in my prayer rule several times a day, I repeat two identical prayers, one for my Russian Motherland’s salvation and the other for my Ukrainian Motherland’s salvation… they’re one and indivisible in my heart. Once again, war has begun… once again, it broke out on the 22nd, not of June this time, but in February, when the Banderovtsy captured Kiev. Again, the war will be long, bloody, and undeclared… again, we face a hard defence of Crimea and Moscow… but then, as always, will come our Russian Victory!
Today, the Austrian-Polish-Soviet “Ukrainian” project is complete, and its creators can accept congratulations… they achieved their goal; they created a schism in the Russian World. They spent huge amounts of money in their attempt to reformat the Russian World, and its borne fruit… they created a Ukrainian “nation”… a “nation” of Janissaries willing to suffer, fight, and die for their ideals. The ideals of the Banderovtsy are simple… “We must destroy all traces of Russia and the Empire in the Ukraine, for if any trace of Russian tradition remains, then, establishing a Banderovtsy state is impossible”.
In 1596, the Unia forcibly tore the Christians of the Ukraine and Belarus from Orthodox Unity; the Unia placed them under the Polish Catholic yoke. Subsequent centuries saw attempts to force Polonisation and Catholicisation upon the Russian people in the Ukraine and Belarus, attempts that only ended with the return of Russian rule to these regions. After the Polish Partitions, only the western lands… Galicia, Podkarpatskaya Rus, and Bukovina remained outside the Russian Empire. Although Lvov, the main city of Galicia, was mostly Polish (in 1939, it was 70 percent Polish, 20 percent Jewish, and only 10 percent “Ukrainian”), full Polonisation in the countryside didn’t go well… they considered themselves Rusins, part of the Russian World, many looked with hope to Russia as a future deliverer from the Polish-Austrian yoke.
A new idea arose in mid-19th century Vienna… a project of creating a new nation from the Rusins with an anti-Russian language and an anti-Russian ideology, a nation that would hate everything Russian. The prominent Polish priest/historian Walerian Kalinka formulated this policy as, “If Galicia can’t be mine, then, let it be neither mine nor thine”. Ludwik Mierosławski, a leader of the January Uprising, expressed it more specifically, “Let’s throw bombs and set the land afire on the Dnepr and the Don, in the heart of Russia. Let them destroy it. We should foster hatred and disputes amongst the Russian people. Then, the Russians will tear themselves with their own claws, and we’d spread and flourish”.Graf Agenor Romuald Gołuchowski, the Austrian governor of Galicia (Polish by nationality) put it more bluntly, “Let the Rusins be ‘Rusyns’… so that they’ll destroy themselves”. An advisor to Polish dictator Józef Piłsudski stated after Poland regained independence that it didn’t matter to Poles whether there really was a separate Ukrainian national consciousness within the Russian nation, “If the Ukrainian people didn’t exist, if they were just an ethnographic entity, we’d help them to achieve national consciousness. Why would we do that? To what purpose would we do that? Then, to our east, we wouldn’t have to deal with over 90 million Great Russians and 40 million Little Russians united in an undivided strong nation”.
To carry out Ukrainisation in Galicia required violent and bloody measures… the intelligentsia who resisted it faced denunciations from newly-minted “Ukrainians” during the First World War, being killed in their native places {as was St Maksim Sandovich: editor} or imprisoned in the Austrian death camps of Talerhof and Terezín, and the majority didn’t come back from there. However, after the Civil War, the Bolsheviks took on the cause of Ukrainisation even more fiercely and consistently… a vehement Ukrainisation undergone not only in the Ukrainian SSR, but also in the Kuban and Stavropol! There weren’t that many experts in its “language”, so they had to “import” them from Poland… to remedy a lack of textbooks, they used books printed in the Austro-Hungarian Empire… with portraits of Franz Joseph! By the end of 1925, an “army” of 50,000 Galician “imports” laboured in the Ukraine, and their number increased monthly.
Yet, the Galician-invented “govirku” (“speech” in the Galician dialect) had little in common with the people’s native dialects; no one knew it, and most refused to learn it. In 1925, the fifth anniversary of Ukrainisation, the Kiev Obkom of the Communist Party (Bolshevik) noted that despite the broad state support for Ukrainisation, 25 percent “absolutely didn’t know it” 30 percent “know almost nothing”, 30.5 percent “know little”, and only 14.5 percent were “more or less knowledgeable”. S A Yefremov noted, “Jews took Ukrainisation the most seriously. Indeed, over the last six months they’ve learnt the most”. Both Little Russians and Great Russians strongly opposed Ukrainisation; they didn’t want to teach “ridnoi movi” (Galician dialect for “native language”). Given the high percentage of Jews in the Ukraine then, we can assume that most of those 14.5 percent who were more or less competent in Ukrainian were Jews, not Little or Great Russians, the intended “beneficiaries” of “Mova” (Galician dialect equivalent of the Russian язык (yazyk: language)).
“Mova” was an artificial development; it was an anti-Russian language, with a maximum replacement of traditional folk Russian words with Polish, German, Galician dialect, or simply concocted equivalents. The main point was that it wasn’t Standard Russian. They constantly tinkered with it, they repeatedly altered words, since the creators of this “language” wanted to take it as far from Russian as they could. For example, take «местоимение» (mestoimenie: pronoun”); in turn, they changed it to «мiстоименния», «мiстойменник», «заiименник», and «займенник». Where it was impossible to come up with something by ad-libbing, they took any foreign word that they could. For example, «вертолёт» (vertolyot: helicopter), according to native derivation (“vertical flyer”), became in Mova (as in modern English), «геликоптер» (“geliokopter”) and «запятая» (zapyataya: comma) became «кома» (“koma”) {which means “clod” in real Russian… what a buncha maroons!: editor}.
The result is gibberish, which angered even one of the original leading lights of the Mova movement, Ivan Semyonovich Nechui-Levitsky, who went into opposition to Ukrainisation, saying 1912, “in trying to get something really far away from Russian, they came up with something that’s far away from real spoken Ukrainian”, he proposed to create a new national vernacular based on Podneprsky (“By the Dnepr”) dialects. If you look at The Tale of Bygone Years and The Lay of the Host of Igor, one realises that they’re in an archaic language, not modern Ukrainian or Russian, although they came from what’s now the Ukraine. Indeed, they help us to realise how artificial modern “ridnoi movi” is. Again, if you read the Chronicle of What I Saw, by a contemporary and possible associate of Bogdan Khmelnitsky, you won’t find “ridnoi movi” there either.
However, what best describes Mova’s artificiality is familiarity with the language of the Lemkos, the westernmost people in the Russian World. The land of the Lemkos… Lemkovina… around the ancient Russian city of Peremishlya (now Przemyśl in Podkarpackie Voivodeship in the Polish Republic). Lemko historian Fr Ioann Polyansky (1888-1972, literary pseudonym “Lemkin”) wrote about the Lemko language, “The Lemko nationality belongs to the great Russian-Slavic motherland. The name ‘Rus’ was for them the eternal holy embodiment of the Slavic ideal, it always laid in their hearts. They call themselves Rusin, Russian, Rusnyak, and Lemko… although in later times, our Lemkos sometimes used the term “Ukrainian” to name their nationality, yet, simultaneously, they kept their earlier orientation. Bear in mind that Lemkos use different terms due to political conditions, they’re not all from our soil”.
Another brilliant Lemko, Dmitri Vislotsky (1888-1968, literary pseudonym “Vanyo Gunyanka”), wrote in his primer on his tongue, “The Russian People consists of Great Russians and Little Russians, along with Ukrainians, Belarusians, and Lemkos. At base, Little Russians and Ukrainians are similar to Great Russians; the differences are more in the nature of discrete accents on the same theme. Belarusians and Lemkos also developed out of the same Russian root. In our Lemko language, some words are the same in Russian, but aren’t similar to modern Ukrainian. Modern Ukrainians forgot their links with Great Russians and Belarusians. That means our Lemko people are part of the one Russian People. We have words in common with Russian, but not with Slovak and Polish”. The truth, expressed in the placid, sonorous, and ancient Russian mother-language!

Everyone talks a lot about Russophobia on this blog. How about Ukrainophobia?
That so-called article slamming the Ukrainian language [and, well, I suppose any Ukrainian literature, art, music, architecture, popular customs, all aspects of a “culture” or “civilization”] that is really remarkable Ukrainophobic drivel. I am a fairly fluent speaker, reader and writer of Ukrainian, this being the only Slavonic language that I wield fluently, and when I read the “Word of Ihor’s Regiment [Campaign]” in its original language I was surprised that some 90 percent of it I could still understand.
The Ukrainian elements in that language, its forms and its grammar are very numerous,
and this was a language spoken in the days of Kyivan Rus. The term for the people was “rusytsy” or in modern Ukrainian “rusychi”, which is a variant with the stem of “Rus” no doubt. But it was the ancestors of Ukrainians speaking a language not much different from modern Ukrainian who created the “Russian World” civilization in the first place!
o true Ukrainian can “hate” the “Russian civilization” or “Russian world”, but what I think most Ukrainians, inhabitants of what is called Halychyna or Western Ukraine, and Central Ukraine, and probably any part of Ukraine, what they really hate and fear coming out of Moscow is a series of regimes, I would say, beginning with that infamous Ivan IV the Terrible, which deviated from the traditional Slavic-tribal or even Scandinavian-tribal or Finnish-tribal restraints placed on the powers and behavior of the kings.—With Ivan the Terrible there burst out the concept of tsar as “god king” and all of his subjects, even the other princes, boyars and generals, as his “kholopy” which means, correct if wrong, not merely “servants” or “subjects” but rather chattel-property-slaves, with no more dignity that the tsar’s kitchen utensils would have.
Thereafter came the institutions of serfdom, various forms of “secret police” and a rule largely by rage and terror [sort of like what you tend to accuse the “West” of doing today]. Read the record of what Ivan the Terrible did to the original population of Novgorod, one of the last remaining bastions of old Kyivan Rus.—
Now if modern post-Soviet Russia has really turned a corner and could never go back to a stalinist system involving cult of personality around some “god king” figure like Kim Jong Un in North Korea, and a government by rage and terror and control as they have today in North Korea,—then Russia has really turned a drastic corner and has become essentially much like Kyivan Rus used to be,—it has in fact become Ukrainianized in its spirit which would be far more important than what language is spoken.
—Then this whole conflict in eastern Ukraine or any notion of warfare between Ukraine and Russia really becomes the dumbest war of the 21st century thus far. The trouble is that people act according to emotionalistic perceptions and manipulated paranoia, disregarding facts.
Traditionally, the Russian tsarist regime appreciated that the indigenous population of Ukraine, because of its history of struggles against the serfdom, the slave trade done per the Ottoman Turkish Empire, forming the Cossack military organization and the Cossack traditions of a kind
of military democracy.,—where at a so called “black council” [“chorna rada”] the troopers could actually vote an abusive officer out of power,—that type of people’s power was absolutely intolerable to the very rigid hierarchical aristocratic “god king” tsarism of the regime in Moscow,
And therefore the language, culture, customs and total mentality of people in what is now Ukraine was persecuted and suppressed as a grave threat to the tsar’s regime. And the Russia of the USSR carried a very similar type of attitude and policy of rage, terror, famine, deadly purges, etc.
No outsiders, Austrians, Germans, Poles or whoever really needed to tell the Ukrainians that their status was very bad, their culture was disrespected to say the least, and that Ukrainians really had no significant presence, voice or power in any government in Moscow, not during tsarist times, not during Soviet times, and not today either [except maybe some token self-hating traitor who generally would be even worse for the Ukrainian people than any honest self-respecting Russian].
-As for the Ukrainian language [it is called “ukraiinska mova”] or native language [called “ridna mova” not “ridnoi movi”, which shows that the author of the article is probably prejudiced due to sheer and mere ignorance in the first place]. And the Ukrainian word for “comma” is “protynka”, for “period” it is “tochka”, for exclamation point it is “oklyk”, and for “noun” it is “imennyk”, for “pronoun” it is “zaimennyk”, for “adjective” it is “prykmetnyk”, for “verb” it is “diieslovo”, for “adverb” it is “pryslivnyk”, and there is also a part of speech that can be called a “numerative” or “chyselnyk” because adjectives denoting number are conjugated rather differently from all other adjectives. The indigenous Ukrainian name for “helicopter” is “vertolet” [in Russian I think it is just a bit different “vertolyot”] or else it can be “gvyntolet” from “gvint” meaning “helix” in Ukrainian. That is one of the few words in Ukrainian where the hard “g” is used.
I remember reading that in Stalin’s crazy days people were even executed over the issue of whether the particular Ukrainian letter for the hard “g” was to be allowed! The issue is that the letter which in Russian is pronounced as hard “g” is pronounced as soft “h” in Ukrainian. The Ukrainian alphabet was standardized to create a special letter for hard “g” which is rare in Ukrainian but sometimes is critical to meaning, such as the word “hnit” in Ukrainian means “oppression” but the word “gnit” in Ukrainian means a candle wick or a fuse like for an explosive or an electrical current. So the Ukrainian language has distinct letters representing the soft “h”, the hard “g” and the distinct “kh” sound, whereas the Russian has no letter for the soft “h” and usually approximates it with the letter for “kh”.
I am not a linguist, but like it or not, the Ukrainian language exists, and is recognized by the expert linguists as a valid language with its own language codes, etc. Go look it up in Wikipedia. Surely Wikipedia is not an Austrian-German-Polish conspiracy!—This situation surely reminds me of how the Kurds maintain that their language has been attacked and suppressed, along with their culture, etc., and how in Turkey they used to be insistently called “Mountain Turks”, so also with the name “Little Russia”.
Well, maybe the modern Ukrainians are the original “rusychi” or “rusy”, and their land was called “Rus” or “rus’kaya zemlia” in the bygone language of that epic “Word of Ihor’s Campaign”.
What I see today makes this whole argument over language as irrelevant and stupid. The fact is that both Russian and Ukrainian are being overwhelmed by the English language so that now there is only “Ukrenglish” and “Russenglish” being spoken over there. You know, when I first saw that the Russians adopted the English word “flag” for a flag rather than traditional “stiah” or “prapor” or “khoruhva” [that latter term I think means the cross-piece flag or gonfalon], well, the thought just entered my mind, it’s really “goodbye Russian language”. What is the point?
Why not just everyone speak proper English? The same goes for use of “mer” for “mayor”
instead of “posadnyk”, or using Anglicized “lider” or “ledi” or “anonsy” rather than “oholoshennia” or “round” as in a match, instead of “tiah”, or “mech” for a sports match instead of “zmah”.
Well, it goes on, countlessly. There is no more genuine Ukrainian or Russian anyways!
You cannot write serious literature using Ukrenglish or Russenglish. I would be a “Slavicizer”
of both languages, would prefer using “richpospolyta” even though from Polish rather than “republic”, or “pechataty” to “print” even if from modern Russian.
Another interesting point I notice: in Ukrainian “hovir” is “dialect” and “mova” is “language” which resembles I think the German term “Sprache” meaning speech, and “mova” is also used in Belorussian, whereas both Polish and Russian use some variant of “yazyk” for “language” which actually literally means “tongue” and this term “tongue” is also used for “language” in Latin, like “lingua franca” the “French language”. The derivation and usage of these terms is interesting. In Ukrainian you can say “thank you” in two ways: “diakuyu” which resembles German “danke” or English “thanks”or the Polish “dzienkuie”, or you can say “spasybih” meaning “God save you” which resembles the Russian “spasibo”.—
Now when someone says that the Russian language needs special protection in Ukraine, I sort of want to laugh, because that’s as if someone said that the English language needs special protection in Ireland. How about making all three Eastern Slavonic languages of official status throughout the Russian Federation, meaning inclusion of Ukrainian and also Belarussian [which is in really bad shape I think and heading toward extinction unless some political force intervenes]. The richness of eastern Slavonic languages and cultures should be preserved, not decimated. And some familiarity with these three eastern Slavonic languages throughout Russia will serve to diminish prejudice born of ignorance, that Ukrainian or Belorussian remain these very secretive and mysterious languages for most Russian-speakers and therefore are a source of irritation rather than appreciation.
It wasn’t an APC – instead, it was an IFV, I think.
“for the USA it is “the worse, the better”.
For those subsuming “American exceptionalism” this may seem so.
However as the song goes, and “events” illustrate – it ain’t necessarily so.
I doubt whether one can call Minsk-2 a win for Russia. My impression is that Kiev and Washington just wanted an armistice because there was a serious risk of a breakdown at the front. They probably would have signed anything as they didn’t have the intention to follow through. And they knew they had some leverage on Russia because – if Russia appeared unreasonable at the negotiations – they would have an argument to convince the EU to implement more sanctions.
I don’t expect much change in Kiev. In a country at war there is no much room for dissent. As I wrote sometime ago elsewhere I think their only strategy is being a thorn in the side of Russia and receiving as a reward a lot of money from the West. Saakashvili – who is now their advisor – used a similar strategy when he ruled Georgia.
It looks like Kiev sees in the unrest in Konstantinovka color revolution tactics from the other side. As they see it the rebels grabbed an accident as an opportunity to organize a local uprising. They don’t believe it is just spontaneous anger.
A lot of comments from RF/Lavrov today in regard to MK2. Calls out everyone:

Rgds,

The first three statements of Lavrov are exactly that – statements. Russia is “appealing to the better nature” (:-!) of France ‘n Germany: “Oh pleez, don’t you see our Kiev pardners violatin’, pleeeez stop them…”. Yeah, right away.
And the fourth,
“… UN peace keepers won’t have a vote from Russia either …”, “… Moscow will abstain from voting in the UN Security Council …”,
simply means that Russia will *allow* the so-called “peace keepers” to go to Malorussia and do as their actual masters tell them. (Hm … remember the shameful “abstention” of Russia in the UN SC on resolution #1973 on 17 March 2011 that allowed the AngloZionists’ unspeakable massacre of Libyans?)

Russia is a serial ENABLER of the U.S.’s strategic games.
There’s a coup attempt beginning today in Georgia. It’s sposed to be a proxy disagreement for EU-US tensions.
Deterioration of relations between the US and EU is largely driven by disputes about and within NATO. The Georgian gov is pro-EU and pro-NATO, but not as pro-US as the UNM. (United Natl Movem, Saakashvili’s party). It is trying to prevent or scale down the illegal actions US has long committed on Georgian territory, and the US doesn’t like it.
Publicly, present Georgian gov has removed the bio weapons lab near Tbilisi International Airport from US Defense Departm control, and it is trying to reinvestigate terrorist acts and defence deals & role the CIA has played in covering up the truth about these.
Georgian General: snipers have started arriving in Georgia from Ukraine, the ones from the Maidan. He says they are to liquidate the list of persons that it’s known UNM drew up while in power.
Georgian fighters fighting on the Kiev side in Ukraine, about 600 w at least 10 killed.
NGOs which Saakashvili set up to do his dirty work in Georgia, Free Zone and Fair Generation, have already begun picketing the old Parliament Building in Tbilisi, demanding the resignation of the government. US is backing an impending coup, or threat thereof, in Georgia to stop the EU acting with increasing independence. EU does NOT want Georgia in NATO; it’s signed an EU assoc agreem.

The Anglo Zionist Empire is in steep decline and will pass into history when nobody wants American Dollars anymore. The trick is to get to that point without a nuclear winter. Russian and Chinese leadership is so far doing an excellent job of isolating Washington without touching off a nuclear exchange. Washington is like a giant death star. It’s engine is a tiny machine that can create a trillion dollars at a key stroke. Take away that advantage and the United States is just another large country in the Americas like Canada, Mexico or Brazil. There will be no revolution of the American people against the State. After the collapse of Empire the USA will balkanize. Some regions will do better than others. But nobody wants to be ruled by Washington.
About that nuclear winter, you might want to get in a bit of Yoga practice to limer up for when you have to kiss your ass goodbye:

How valid this is I cannot say, but if it has any truth to it we are all in deep shit.
This is the most idiotic concocted poppycock that I have actually seen in print for ages…… (In case you still don’t get it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/There%27s_a_sucker_born_every_minute )
OH NO. Somebody has let in yet another link based on a Sorcha Faal disinformation story.
“How valid this is I cannot say” you say? here, let me help you
* it shows up in a fake site and not in any main stream media
* if you bother to trace the story to the source it claims, you will see it was written by Sorcha Faal ( a fake name, paid disinfo person)
* you can Google it and find it nowhere in any mainstream media.
you would do this because you’d be suspicious because:
* basically one government or another would have bothered to tell us we are at war
* if one pilot refuses to push the button ANOTHER ONE WOULD so we’d be toast by now
* oh and do you really think it is down to one pilot??
Do yourself a favour, don’t even finish reading junk like that, and do US a favour and don’t bring it here. We’re not into scare mongering propaganda here.
The crash of the Empire due to the crash of the dollar will only affect us mortals. The people who are running the show have more money now than ever before.
I was wondering how long it would take, for the Khazar-connection to find its way into the forefront. Readers will note this, and must accept that there is a connection between what we see going on in Ukraine and events of a thousand years ago. And then, we realize that the insanity is being driven behind the scenes by a spirit we have no control of without invoking The Name?
Alas, we cannot say that name, not without being prepared for the onslaught of ad hominem attacks that surely will follow from a world that in most places has lost its way, and its power to confront this evil and send it packing. So you believe that we have to make a stand against inhumane injustice and corruption? How are you going to do that without requisite power and authority? Aye, ye will choke on it, long before you make any headway to correcting it without the proper authority.
Connecting the dots between back then and now is difficult, requires a lot of time for reading and thinking about what’s been read; it takes years, decades even. Then sifting the fact from the urban legends. In the process you develop a skill that is invaluable: Being choicy about where you find sources, and applied critical thinking, which is more like asking the right questions, instead of sitting there like a school boy being schooled by the likes of Jen Psaki. My goodness, those scenes from her classroom make me rend my garments…America…is she dead to us?
I don’t know how Matt Lee can be so patient, as he always is. One day he will ask the question that wipes the self-satisfied, condescending smirk off her face, and make her want to hide herself, let the mountains fall on her. I have heard that she quit. Well whatever. State will find another school marm for us and Matt Lee will go on being patient- or be disenrolled.
The Khazar connection will serve to expose undeniably, the evil that thirsts for our destruction. But once exposed, will it be recognized as such? You might ask, “Hasn’t it been blatant enough for people?” And I would say YES, but we cannot underestimate the power of conditioned denial. And until that power has been broken, Saker, your stint as a watchman on the wall is not over and- thank you for pointing out the Khazar connection.
Response to David:
“…the proper authority” – “a spirit we have no control of without invoking The Name.”
I think the Invocation itself will provide the needed authority – provided it is made “with massed intent” – not just wishfulness, but intent, on the part of suitably organised minds working together creatively, to attain the required critical mass of “invocative-evocative power.”
Let’s hope and pray (yes, prayer has its part to play) that the threshold is achieved while there are still enough minds available for the work – before Dajjal deceives too may of those who otherwise might have helped…
http://www.brookings.edu/events/2015/03/17-ukraine-finance-natalie-jaresko#
Natalie Jaresko, Chicago-born installed minister of finance in the Ukraine coup, outlines plans for the next year or two in Ukraine, including a new police force, new taxes, and other financial machinations for “my country.” Worth listening to if only to grasp how out of touch the neocons are at the Brookings Institute.
sometimes I´ve been lately struck by a sudden thought: if in the months following the end of WWII, the whole world took note and conscience of the horrific deeds of the previous 12 years of nazism… by direct reports, by photos and confessions all over…
what will the aftermath on CONSCIENce and disclosures pop up in the world when the Empire of Chaos and blackmail finally falls in our western vicinity?
the disclosures, and all revelations made by today´s instant image and communication tech and gadgets will make ordinary people stick stunned in horror , all realizing who has been the most criminal state in History! Or ciykd it be otherwise?
Saker, your information and analysis are always worth reading, you are good at digging out hidden currents and the flow of information across your desk is increasingly impressive; yet perhaps you are too pessimistic sometimes. Big changes can gather beneath the surface, which can seem calm or just a bit ruffled until the changes mature and burst forth. Phase changes, if delayed, can occur suddenly.
Millions across Europe, including many ot the “lapdogs” at the upper levels, are chafing at their chains, resentment of their humiliation festering, watching as the ship of Empire starts to founder and take them down with it. The reaction to Snowden, the struggles over repatriation of gold, the German anti-Fed movement, the refusal to get in line around Ukraine, resistance to expanding Sanctions, the decisions to defy the US and join the Asia Development Bank, all are suggestive of such a hidden turmoil. Logic and history strongly suggest that when the strain on a given arrangement of exploitation and plunder reaches a certain point the players in their desperation to survive will turn on each other. The signs and portents show we are reaching such a point.
Not that it will be simple. There are many dangers and pitfalls. We see in the battle over the Greek debt for example that Europe itself is caught in the midst of a crisis which will not be some simple abstract breakup but rather a realignment between the center of the would-be German Empire and its hoped-for future colonies. (Russia must be weighing its role in that still largely-veiled drama carefully.)
But the scnario that things will go on as before and that Europe will just fall in line behind the US is an unlikely one.
Cheers!
What a sad state of affairs. Its hard to see no thermonuclear war happening at some point between USA vs Russia / China
