Comment by Andrei: Russia invited Roger Waters to speak at the UNSC even though the Russians perfectly knew and understood that Roger Waters does not share the same view of this war than Russia does. That is true pluralism and not its pathetic and ugly substitute we see in the “free and democratic media” which immediately branded Waters as an “Putin agent” and, of course, an “anti-Semite”. Let me repeat, it is Russia which gave a voice to the billions of people Roger Waters speaks about and speaks for. Not the “free and democratic West”. I am very proud of Russia today :-)
Thank you Roger!
Andrei
Well said Roger,a voice of sanity among all the insanity, been a fan of your music since the 70s,you have not disappointed me,unlike one of your former bandmates.
Thankyou
Yeah, that other former bandmate (Gilmour not to name him) now calls Waters and “anti-Semite” which tells you all you need to know about the garbage in his brain…
Yes indeed, great guitarist but thats it,there are many such people here jumping on the anti Russian bandwagon, its for self promotion, but many are willfully ignorant about the situation,i hear it every day from people who know nothing about Ukraine and Donbass and i am tired of trying to educate them but feel i must continue.
For what it’s worth, Waters’ opinion seems to mirror the Chinese position – that is Russia may be intruding into the territories of Ukraine but it was provoked to do so – ie it was justified in so doing.
At a certain point – and we are there – the territorial invasion issue becomes moot. You Ukraine are being attacked because you have backstabbed us, Russia. We will physically draw a new map and make a new situation. Call it war … or whatever.
You provoked. We responded. Waters and China and India and others (the 4-5 billion in the world) can say we are the aggressor but they know we were not the original aggressors. We are justified.
I guess that’s all Russia is asking for now. We don’t need to take Russia’s side. We just should not take the Empire’s side.
@ Allan I Agree
In order to place blame where it belongs, it is essential to look at the timeline of events.
In 2014 The US financed a Coupe against the legally elected government in Kiev, and supported a Neo-NAZI militia into power.
In the aftermath NATO and the US supported and financed the Ukrainian Military attacks against the ethnic Russian populations in Ukraine, with the purpose to provoke Russia into intervention.
For 8 Years Russia did not intervene militarily to stop the bombings of Donbass by Ukraine.
During those 8 years Russia worked for peace in Ukraine via international negotiations and succeeded in creating 2 peace accords (Minsk 1+2 Agreements) of which both were faked by both Germany and France, in order to stall for time until NATO had built up the Ukrainian Military with the purpose to attack Russia itself.
In 2022, Russia finally intervened with a Special military operation to De-NAZI-fy Ukraine, and to stop the ethnic cleansing of the Russian population in Donbass.
The ones who start war (even by provocations) are the War criminals, Not the ones acting in defense.
The responsibility for the war in Ukraine thus lies barely on all NATO Nations.
Thank You Roger Waters, for speaking up for the majority of Humanity.
You are a true Statesman, I’m proud of you.
Yes, one feels sorry for the “regular Ukrainians” who are suffering now. But remember that for eight years, from 2014 to 2022, Ukrainian citizens in the Donbass suffered shelling by Ukrainians. There was plenty of time for Ukrainians to get a brain.
In all fairness, the Ukrainian people DID vote for both Poroshenko’s promise of peace AND Zelensky’s promise of the same.
They were lied to twice.
Like the people of the USA with Obama and Trump.
The folks in the EU did not even try.
Just saying…
Best
Andrei
PDJT… did not started war/ military conflict…Andrei
Roger, For God’s Sake, a ceasefire is not a solution for this magnitude of a crisis. The militarisation & neutralization of Ukraine is a geopolitical must. Without the removal & prosecution of the”chosenite” crackheads in Kyiv, Russia should not & will not stop fighting—-whatever the Russian or Ukrainian costs. Because this one is our times Putingrad, the fate of our human civilization´s fate is in balance. Sorry to tell, dear Roger, that your intervention at this bought-out assembly was a weak discourse, it would have been better to keep your mouth shut.
it would have been better to keep your mouth shut.
I wish you would follow your own advice
Roger, thank you for your peacemaking contribution, but a ceasefire implies both sides are willing to negotiate some kind of settlement, unfortunately, that is not the case as we all know very well. We know who is pulling the strings, and to what ends, and we know there is not a single rational agreement capable person in the western block.
I read all the comments, and conclude, well said nietzsche1510. That is what has to happen, unfortunate as it may be, also any conclusion which is unconditional, with Russia setting all terms and boundaries and organizing tribunals and prosecutions. and NATO disbanding entirely and the US leaving the continent, just for good measure. smiley face here.
@ edwardi
I agree with you part way ,The West has attacked both Russia and China and KUSA the entire world ,with
950 bases around the world, what Russia has done is self defense ,their can not ever be and agreement by the
Khazana tribe period !!
My thought’s on this UN speech ,is that this was a plunder made by Putin I’am very sorry to say !!
Could you imagine if all the security council would agree to stop the war right now ,Russia would be in big trouble .
TOM 123
Very good speaking to them Roger, however I think their hearts are to hard to hear you, or even as Jesus is cry for peace, we will suffer but we will overcome if we keep the faith.
That was a nice speech I actually enjoyed it and you got a lot of things right, Mr. Waters.
However, I remember back during the Orthodox Christmas season when Putin heeded the call of Patriarch Kirill for a ceasefire.
This was not only flat refused by Ukraine but they use the opportunity to track cell phone usage of newly stationed Russian calling home for Christmas.
So, then let it be known it is Nazi’s who wanna fight to the last man.
An interesting centrist position. It was worth it to hear his appeal to humanity and calling out the Western warmongering, but Putin had the moral imperative to respond to Ukrainian shelling of Donbass civilians, and Putin also cited his legal authority under international laws.
Yes the years of shelling Donbass for over 8 years by the Ukrainian Regime, thats the 600lb Gorilla in the room, the scum MSM never want to talk about that.
Roger Waters is a Bennite democratic socialist not a ‘centrist’ (in fact in his world ‘centrist’ is a term of abuse).
Placing labels on a man like him only reflects on you, think about it
It’s true that I once belonged to this exact sub-grouping of the British Labour Movement, which in Westminster is called the Socialist Campaign Group. ‘Bennite democratic socialist’ is also admittedly an insider’s technical term.
Nevertheless, this is genuinely Roger Waters own ‘Old Labour’ background…
Roger Waters ‘I think Jeremy Corbyn is a huge breath of fresh air following in the august footsteps of Aneurin Bevan, Michael Foot and Tony Benn and the rest of the Left wing of British politics’
Roger Waters repeatedly endorsed Jeremy Corbyn, who is a student and follower of the late Tony Benn. The actual Left Wing in British politics is really quite small (the Campaign Group consists of just 35 MPs), and Tony Benn was certainly it’s greatest spokesman, so those who are genuinely leftist in British politics are called Bennites (although Tony Benn himself was more of a Christian Socialist). In the mainstream media they are of course called ‘extreme left’ or ‘far left’ but this is incorrect because they are all firm believers in parliamentary democracy and gradualism.
In musical terms, and perhaps also as an activist, Roger Waters occupies a unique position, but in political terms he comes from a very specific background, and in this regard he can certainly be labelled. Another celebrity from the same Left Wing background, who walks in the same august footsteps, is Roger Water’s close friend, the filmmaker Ken Loach. I’ve been to numerous rallies and events in opposition to war and in support of Palestine and Julian Assange, and it is always the same people that are involved. Roger Waters definitely belongs to this group.
To a non-British person he might appear to be unique in every regard, but in fact he comes from a long and honourable tradition. Walking beside the True Leveller regiments in the English Civil War there was very likely a balladeer and folk musician who was just like him.
see Andrei – I would never know about this if not for your blog. Its such a sadness and loss that you’re leaving us.
I am still fighting my tears as I type this.
This was a moment for the entire humanity in so many ways, this man, this purpose and also the gesture from the Russian Federation enabling it to happen, and at last but not at the least from you, Andrei.
I, and all those who could see, hear this message of Roger Waters grace á The Vineyard, can never be grateful enough. Godspeed, and thank you!
Dear Grenknight
Please stay in touch. Maybe that can somewhat ease our common sadness?
Kind regards
Andrei
I agree with Nietzche1510, Friend, and Edwardi’s assessments.
I think Roger answered the question himself on what value a ceasefire would bring when he referenced his mother’s advice to him as a teenager on how to handle a very troubling quandary…and the steps were…
#1 Read, read, read… educate yourself on BOTH sides of the argument
#2 Next the easy part… do the RIGHT thing!
And herein lies the root of the problem, because one of the parties…
#1 Will simply NOT read, read, read… therefore the only way they will learn anything is with an enormously painful, or even existential lesson.
#2 One of the parties is perfectly happy with perpetual war… this is their habitual mode.
#3 One of the parties has shown itself to be completely agreement and treaty incapable.
In essence, as admirable as Roger’s attempt was, he actually let slip the very reason why a ceasefire will achieve nothing. It will only perpetuate the problem of ongoing western imperialism.
It’s the same old same old never ending WW1. The Ukraine debacle is the current front just as the Covid debacle was too. It’s the very same shadowy figures pulling the same old strings.
As Bob Dylan said… “it is what it is, its murder most foul.” Maybe instead of having Roger on the big screen, they should have just run this link instead, because there was one particular day in history when humanity took one giant leap into the abyss…

This is a bankers’ war. A ceasefire when one party are a group of homicidal nutjobs will play right into the hands of the western imperialists and their banker puppet masters.
With their quickfire antics of endless bioweapons, genocide, and now the killing fields of Ukraine, these murderous lunatics have had their agenda comprehensively exposed to the world.
If the bankers are let off the hook this time around, humanity could well be under their jackboot for another century or more.
Wow…he said everything that needed to be said. Bless him. Some of those present will understand him, but sadly most will not, because they have become blinded by egotism and delusion.
Russia is seemingly binding itself ever closer to the highest principles of humanity. Maria’s Zakharova’s recent speech against fascism, which focussed on compassion and human heartedness was in much the same vein.
There is a lesson in this for all of us, to be the very best versions of ourselves that we can be, in these increasingly dark times. When darkness descends we must cleave to the light, and stand up for love, and justice and truth.
Russia has been patiently trying to find peaceful solutions to the unipolar drive towards one world full spectrum domination that drove up to its doorstep in Ukraine. Is it supposed to lie passively while being balkanized, raped of its resources, and culturally disemboweled? Self preservation is the first law of nature. Russia has accurately pegged the one world order folks as undealable, brute force is all they respond to. Throughout history the parasitism of empire, slavery, and feudalism has been the SOP of humankind. Now they want to unify and globalize it, under Zionist antichrist leadership! That must end or the planet will never be civilized. What Russia did in Ukraine was right, and what is right is just, and what is just is legal.
The public is trained to look on Russians with racial hatred. Russian leadership is demonized as best they can. This is a great way of showing how dissent is suppressed in the lands of the free and the homes of the brave and that there still are some. I can think of a long list of people who could follow Waters.
We don’t need no thought control!
Truly wonderful to behold the warmongering ruling class losing their sh1t:
“Yesterday (Feb. 6), Polly Samson (a journalist and novelist who married Gilmour in 1994 and has contributed to Pink Floyd releases) tweeted at Waters:
Sadly, @rogerwaters you are antisemitic to your rotten core. Also, a Putin apologist and a lying, thieving, hypocritical, tax-avoidong, lip-synching, misogynistic, sick-with-envy, megalomaniac. Enough of your nonsense.
Gilmour then retweeted Samson’s message and said, “Every word demonstrably true.””

I’m guessing she didn’t bother to listen before jumping to conclusions. He hardly even mentioned the war. The speech was all about other things; mostly poverty in Europe and Britain.
He did mention the Unipolar ambitions once.
Obviously there was not enough time to speak at length, but someone could have just said this to the US/West to learn to accept they are not the golden billion anymore. They have had their chance and squandered it pretty bad, and rest of the world wants to shop around between powers for better bargains without getting napalmed, carpet bombed and experimented on en masse.
In other words, people know what the game is, and people have seen the policy of cracking nuts with sledgehammer for last three decades. And people know there are better options in life than to worry about getting bombed because their government didn’t sell out to wall street.
Andrei, does Waters now become persona non grata in Britain for this little talk? One wonders if the unkind remarks you chastise below are from Britishers?
Pretty cool, Waters.
That was a fresh breeze blowing through the usually sordid environment that inhabits the corridors of power at the U.N., however, it will not make any difference at all, a non-event besides the fact that Pink Floyd’s Waters delivered a speech to the UNSC.
At least the word “slums” was mentioned at the UN, to remind them billions of people are struggling to make a living, billions don’t know where the next meal is going to come from, and billions more have no home to go to, and no hope to ever have a place call home.
Declaring the “invasion” of Ukraine “illegal” is part and parcel of the “moral relativity” used by pacifists, including some friends of mine at “Veterans for Peace,” and other organizations who have to “balance” their positions, partly not to be labeled a Putin agent. Or an Iranian agent. Or a Cuban agent. It all depends which country they decide to advocate for.
Lip service has to be offered to the PTB, to be qualified to speak about Russia in not-so negative terms.
If Waters is able to realize the “invasion” of Ukraine by Russia was not unprovoked, sheer logic should notify him for Russia this was a preemptively defensive move, imprinted in the character of the SMO. He has to call it “illegal” to preserve the moral authority to speak to the Collective West without being shut down and out for good.
It is unfortunate people like Waters have to recourse to such rhetoric to make his point across.
C’est la vie.
After all, he’s only a (good) musician with political inclinations.
And a good heart.
