Revanchism and russophobia: the dark undercurrents of the war in the Ukraine

The situation in the Ukraine is more or less calm right now, and this might be the time to step back from the flow of daily reports and look at the deeper, underlying currents. The question I want to raise today is one I will readily admit not having an answer to. What I want to ask is this: could it be that one of the key factors motivating the West’s apparently illogical and self-defeating desire to constantly confront Russia is simply revanchism for WWII?

We are, of course, talking about perceptions here so it is hard to establish anything for sure, but I wonder if the Stalin’s victory against Hitler was really perceived as such by the western elites, or if it was perceived as a victory against somebody FDR could also have called “our son of a bitch“. After all, there is plenty of evidence that both the US and the UK were key backers of Hitler’s rise to power (read Starikov about that) and that most (continental) Europeans were rather sympathetic to Herr Hitler. Then, of course and as it often happens, Hitler turned against his masters or, at least, his supporters, and they had to fight against him. But there is strictly nothing new about that. This is also what happened with Saddam, Noriega, Gaddafi, al-Qaeda and so many other “bad guy” who began their careers as the AngloZionists’ “good guys”. Is it that unreasonable to ask whether the western elites were truly happy when the USSR beat Nazi Germany, or if they were rather horrified by what Stalin had done to what was at that time the single most powerful western military – Germany’s?

Looking at that photo I thought that for the western elites, to see these men must have been rather frightening, especially considering that they must have known that their entire war effort was, at most, 20% of what it took to defeat Nazi Germany and that those who had shouldered 80%+ were of an ideology diametrically opposed to capitalism.

Is there any evidence of that fear?

I think there is and I already mentioned them in the past:

Plan Totality (1945): earmarked 20 Soviet cities for obliteration in a first strike: Moscow, Gorki, Kuybyshev, Sverdlovsk, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Saratov, Kazan, Leningrad, Baku, Tashkent, Chelyabinsk, Nizhny Tagil, Magnitogorsk, Molotov, Tbilisi, Stalinsk, Grozny, Irkutsk, and Yaroslavl.

Operation Unthinkable (1945) assumed a surprise attack by up to 47 British and American divisions in the area of Dresden, in the middle of Soviet lines.This represented almost a half of roughly 100 divisions (ca. 2.5 million men) available to the British, American and Canadian headquarters at that time. (…) The majority of any offensive operation would have been undertaken by American and British forces, as well as Polish forces and up to 100,000 German Wehrmacht soldiers.

Operation Dropshot (1949): included mission profiles that would have used 300 nuclear bombs and 29,000 high-explosive bombs on 200 targets in 100 cities and towns to wipe out 85% of the Soviet Union’s industrial potential at a single stroke. Between 75 and 100 of the 300 nuclear weapons were targeted to destroy Soviet combat aircraft on the ground.

But the biggest proof is, I think, the fact that none of these plans was executed, even though at the time the Anglosphere was safely hidden behind its monopoly on nuclear weapons (and have Hiroshima and Nagasaki not been destroyed in part to “scare the Russians”?).

And is it not true that the Anglos did engage in secret negotiations with Hitler’s envoys on several occasions? (The notion of uniting forces against the “Soviet threat” was in fact contemplated by both Nazi and Anglo officials, but they did not find a way to make that happen.)

So could it be that Hitler was, really, their “son of a bitch”?

More proof? Okay.

Hitler was most definitely not a Christian. If anything, he and Himmler were pagans with a strong satanic bend to their dark cult of ancestor worship (Ahnenerbe). But what about Hitler’s allies such as Petain, Franco, Pavelic – where they not defenders of what they would call the “Christian West”? Is it not a fact that 70 years after the fall of the Third Reich those who admire Petain, Franco and Pavelic *still* speak of the need to defend the “Christian West”, but this time against the “Islamic threat”?

Furthermore, if the Nazi regime represented an existential threat to European Jewry, a quick survey or articles written by Jewish authors in the US and British press during much of the 20th century clearly shows that most Jews had little to no sympathy not only for pre-Revolutionary Russia, but also for the post-Trotsky USSR and that even though the USSR fully supported the creation of the state of Israel, many if not most US and European Jews felt that the Soviet Union was also a threat to their interests.

I believe that the rabid russophobia (phobia in both the sense of “hate” and “fear”) of the AngloZionist Empire cannot be only explained by pragmatic reasons of great power competition or a struggle of political systems. The constant propaganda about the “Russian threat” is not only a political tool to dumb down the western people by keeping them in a state of constant fear (of Russia or Islam), but it is also the expression of a deep fear really felt by the 1% plutocracy which rules over the western world.

Finally, the fear of Russia is also a fear of the Russian leaders. When they are like Eltsin (a drunken imbecile) or his Foreign Minister Kozyrev (the ultimate “yes” man) western politicians feel appropriately superior. But remember that even mediocre personalities like Krushchev or Brezhnev truly frightened them. So it is no wonder that strong and smart leaders (like Stalin or Putin) would absolutely terrify them and make them feel inadequate. The infantile way in which Obama has tried to show that he was smarter and stronger than Putin is a clear indication of how inferior he really felt face to face. The same, of course, also goes for Kerry and Lavrov.

Everything I have written above fully applies to East European leaders too, only with even more intensity. We are talking about countries which sometimes had a rather glorious past and who during WWII had no other purpose then being the furniture in the room where the two Big Guys slugged it out. Worse, they more or less kept that same passive role during the Cold War and now they have hardly become more relevant. In part, I would argue that this is their own fault, instead of finally making use of their new found freedom to develop some kind of meaningful political identity, all they did was to engage in a brown-nosing competition to see who would become Uncle Sam’s favorite pet (Hungary under Orban being the sole exception to this sad rule).

It is really no wonder that when the Americans overthrew Yanukovich the Europeans felt that now, finally, their “hour had come” and they would show those disrespectful Russians who “is boss” on the Old Continent. And every time the Russians warned the Eurocretins in Brussels that there were issues linked to the Ukraine which required urgent consultations they were told “that is none of your business, there is nothing to discuss”. The problem was, of course, that the West European leader had forgotten that in the real world they were just the administrators of the USA’s “EU colony” and that the US leaders truly did not give a damn about them (as Mrs Nuland so lyrically put it in simple words). As for East European leaders, their irrelevance is simply painful to look at, I almost feel sorry for them and their trampled egos.

I personally think that contrary to the official narrative, there is a strong case to be made that the end of WWII left a lot of people very, very unhappy and that all those who felt wronged or frightened by the Soviet victory in 1945 did join forces in an attempt to correct the wrongs of the outcome of that war. At the very least, the question of the importance of russophobia and revanchism has to be asked.

It just not make sense to explain away the apparently crazy behavior of the western leaders during the entire Ukrainian crisis by saying that they are simply stupid, naive or ill informed. What they are doing may appear stupid, naive or ill informed to us, but that does not mean that there is no deep rationale behind the actions of these “elites”.

Most people in the West want to live in peace and are completely unaware of these undercurrents of the war in the Ukraine. What I describe above is only relevant to various minority groups. The problem is that taken together and when they act in unison, these minorities end of wielding a lot of power and influence. The best way to stop them, is to shed a strong light on them and their real motives.

The end of World War Two was the ‘beginning of the end’ for old world imperialism. From the ashes of the war, the United States and the Soviet Union emerged as dominant powers who aimed to reshape the world in their own image. America with atomic weapons and the world’s strongest economy was challenged by the Soviet Union, who after the war, possessed the world’s largest conventional army and controlled one fifth of the globe, including parts of Central and Eastern Europe. The two wartime allies disagreed on the future political direction for the world. Even though, in 1946 in San Francisco they were the co-founders of the United Nations, whose aim was collective security, they followed policies of self interest. In the post war world ‘our glorious Soviet allies’ and their leader ‘Uncle Joe’ became ‘enemy number one’.

Decolonization in Asia and Africa, instability in Europe, as well as oppressive right wing dictatorships in Central and South America exposed the conflicting interests of Soviet and American imperialism. These conflicting political and economic interests created a bipolar world where ‘communists’ or what in reality was “state capitalism” led by the Soviet Union and the ‘democracies’ or what in reality was “corporate controlled capitalism” in Washington struggled for the minds and hearts of people in developing nations. This struggle, in other words, “the Cold War mixed domestic and international threats and anxieties, and created a crisis atmosphere which was temporarily useful — but blown out off all reasonable proportions.” The Soviet Union under the guise of communism, and the United States under the guise of democracy, competed directly or indirectly, to dominate the post war world.

The wartime allies, America and the Soviet Union, disagreed on the future political direction of the countries in Central and Western Europe. The Russians refused to allow their wartime allies any input into the political choices they made for the territories under their control. They justified this position by saying that the Western Powers refused to give them any say in the future of Western Europe that was under the influence of America. This lack of co-operation, and more importantly the domination of Central and Eastern Europe by the Soviets, concerned President Truman. This lack of co-operation was seen by the Truman administration as a direct challenge to American political and economic interests, even though, CIA reports, in 1945, portray the Soviets as a spent force, large in number with their homeland devastated, their economy in ruins, and their supply lines inadequate. According to intelligence analysis, it would take some fifteen years before they could militarily challenge the West in Europe since the intelligence agencies estimated that the Russians would not possess nuclear weapons for another five years.” They did, however, have sufficient conventional forces to influence events in countries where left wing movements were active in their attempts to overthrow the existing governments. Of particular concern for America was the communist influence in Greece and Turkey. Formerly under British influence, this strategic area was used in the past to prevent the tsars from challenging British imperialism in the Mediterranean. With the demise of the British ability to maintain the status quo, America stepped in to stop what they saw as a ‘domino effect’ in a region which was of historic strategic importance to capitalism. To this end, America introduced the Truman Doctrine, whose aim was to stop the spread of communism, whether local or international, by helping the existing government stay in power, whether a dictatorship or democracy, as long as it was friendly to American interests.

In Western Europe, particularly in France and Italy, economic crisis led to the election of large communist parties. More immediately, the easy takeover of Czechoslovakia by the communists scared the Congress into implementing the proposed Marshal Plan designed to help European economic recovery. America introduced the Marshall Plan in order to combat the communist threat to Europe and American influence by means of a ‘full belly’. At the same time the Marshal Plan allowed American companies to jump the tariff walls and American multinational corporations were able to dominate European commerce from the inside. Also, the implementation of the Marshal plan led to the integration of German, French and Belgian coal and steel industries, the first step to the present European Union, dominated by United States and its new military bureaucracy NATO. Moreover, this integration was intended to stop German militarism and revenge by integrating the German economy with that of her neighbors. Even though, the Marshal Plan aid was offered to the Soviet Union, they saw it as a ‘Trojan Horse’, and refused it, since they saw it as an attempt to de-communize Eastern Europe. The political ‘tug of war’ and ‘one-upmanship’ in Europe and at home in America did not end with the Marshal Plan, but continued through espionage, propaganda, and series of crisis which created a symbiotic relationship between the Soviet and American industrial military complexes. The state of Crisis intensified with the communist takeover in China in 1949 and the Soviet explosion of the A-bomb. The Soviets saw many of these events as self defenses, while Americans saw the same events as a threat to her democracy.

Outside of Europe, at the end of the Pacific War, America feared that Soviet entry would lead to communization of Asian territories that came under her control. At the same time Truman felt that, Soviets would help the Chinese communists in their effort to expel the American ally Chiang Kai-Shek from China. Communization of China could mean an end to the historic Open Door Policy that America had supported, since 1922, in relationship to this country. Soviets had a large conventional Army and they were committed to enter the war against Japan. Truman did not want the Soviet control in Asia to follow the European example. His fears were proved right as the Soviets helped communize North Korea and China. Communization of North Korea and China was followed by attempts to communize the whole of the Korean peninsula. “In 1949, there was the Communist victory in China, and in that year also, the Soviet Union exploded its first atomic bomb. In 1950 the Korean War began. These were all portrayed to the public as signs of a world Communist conspiracy.” Anti-communist elements in America viewed as equally serious, “anti-imperialist insurrection in the world, which would require gigantic American effort to defeat: national unity for militarization of the budget, for the suppression of domestic opposition to such a foreign policy.”

These anti-communist elements, lead by Herbert Hoover and Joseph McCarthy, by their propaganda brought out the most repugnant side in human nature. In the name of patriotism and self promotion many Americans, like Ronald Regan and Charleston Hesston turned in their friends to government committees. Even though, “some of this propaganda had an element of truth much of it was so strident and overblown that it became virtually impossible to establish whether or not there was a communist threat.” Certainly, the Soviet espionage rings were present in the West. Igor Guzenko, a cipher clerk in the Soviet embassy in Ottawa, sounded a warning to their presence. Russian archive today indicates that Soviet spies like Julius and Ethel Rosenberg had passed atomic secrets to Soviet agents. However, espionage is as old as history; all sides participate in it, one way or another. McCarthyism gave the American government an opportunity to bring into line dissent, the media, the film industry, and the unions. Furthermore, American government used the fear of Communism to increase military spending and suppress left wing revolutions in Latin America and anti-colonial revolutions in Asia and Africa.

American government broke its own laws in order to suppress Communism in America. The threat to American democracy was more domestic than foreign. Internationally, however, establishment of quasi-communist dictatorships in Eastern and Southern Europe as well as in China threatened American economic influence in these areas. By creating an anti-communist paranoia, American government was able to justify to its people the need for greater and greater military expenditures. Also, it was easier to justify keeping American troops in Europe and sending them to fight in the Korean War. The threat from communist espionage in America, in the immediate post war period, was something that the legal institutions could have controlled. It was Stalinist totalitarianism, which was a threat, both inside and outside the Soviet Union. Ideas, whether communist or capitalist, are never a threat in a society that respects freedom of speech which is protected by the rule of law, due process and an independent judiciary.

A large part of Europe was fascist, and the elite even more so. And the war against Germany from the West really only started once it was obvious that they were going to lose to the USSR. And various Nazi documents essentially said that nationalism was only good till the end of WWII, then they would switch to a European model of what was, after all, the Third Reich. Like the EU but perhaps with German as the most important lingua franca. And many or most Slavs expelled to South America or East of the Urals.

However, the other issue is simply that Russia is too big, too unmanageable, has too many resources, and has far too powerful of a military. So it is in the way of everything. It interferes with German domination of Eastern Europe. It interferes with the Western business model of stealing resources, not paying for them. And it is really in the way of geopolitical matters, such as establishing a new Middle East.

Finally, the current problems with Russia might not be the case if Kasparov were in Putin’s shoes. Russia would be broken into pieces and depopulated, of course, but that is because the West only needs the resources, not the people.

Financial collapse leads to war –

Scanning the headlines in the western mainstream press, and then peering behind the one-way mirror to compare that to the actual goings-on, one can’t but get the impression that America’s propagandists, and all those who follow in their wake, are struggling with all their might to concoct rationales for military action of one sort or another, be it supplying weapons to the largely defunct Ukrainian military, or staging parades of US military hardware and troops in the almost completely Russian town of Narva, in Estonia, a few hundred meters away from the Russian border, or putting US “advisers” in harm’s way in parts of Iraq mostly controlled by Islamic militants.

  I think many of us have come to the same conclusion. We saw it in 2008 and how fast it happened and then looking at things now and how tightly they are controlled, I mean everything is so tight, nothing is allowed to move without their say so. The US$ moving higher is the effect of destabilization which cause massive influx into the US. When these funds leave the US there is not stopping the crash. To prevent that there is only global destabilization. If this was like before 1980 or so, we would already have seen a hot war. But these days no matter how much they control things, it is pretty clear to people that the US is behind most of the problems, if they to push things too far, people will decide that it is just not safe to keep their wealth in the US. So they have to find someone big enough to unload the reasons. Russia makes a scapegoat but the problem is Russia is the second most powerful military and it can do as much harm in return than the US can. There wont be anything left for the US to win. The next best thing is to force EU and Russia into a war, things like nato and such are only useful when the going gets good, but when the going gets bad I bet the US will invoke national security and stay out of any confrontation. Like the bully that causes the trouble and calls the other kid out and then to fight pushes someone standing behind him to take his place. The aim here does not seem to be to gain anything other to keep their power over the world.
  A power monger.. They are very hard to understand because they will go to any extreme to keep their power. The US could start WW3 itself but if you lose before you even get started that is no good.. Hence the escalations..

Today the Guardian ran an article with ‘heartwarming’ interviews from ‘the women on the frontlines’, that support Aidar and Right Sector.

Whilst they mentioned that Aidar are a bunch of murderous thugs in the first few paragraphs, they still presented it as some sort of human interest piece.

Of course its from their New East Network, which is basically RFE/RL.

The fear of Russia is so strong that they will happily print these women saying they want to join Aidar, posing in front of UPA flags and a van with a Waffen SS insignia.

Despite the journalist that got them a pulitzer prize for the Snowden stuff, Glen Greenwald, utterly denouncing the western narrative, they continue with the scaremongering.

Such a shame a once great paper has fallen so far. The same paper even prints comment articles by the likes of Milne who is against the west too, then completely ignore it in the next editorial and call anyone that disagrees a propagandist.

Dear Mr Saker,
I believe the reasons you give about westerners’ antagonism are not adequate and I noticed that Russians don’t understand western antagonism and are surprised by it and the intensity of it.
Russians don’t understand western hatred because it’s not reciprocal, the reasons invoked are wrong, and Russians did nothing wrong.
Westerners want to rule the world and the Russians are an obstacle. Human reaction against someone breaking a dream is HATE !
Russians are the equivalent of Negros for colonialists of the 19th century: they are wild, not educated, they stink, they have no technologies, they have no manners, they aren’t democratic. All the reasons invoked don’t matter of course, the real reasons have to be searched in the feeling of inferiority /unfitness of the westerners. (It’s more like the Russians are the scapegoat/punch bag/whipping boy of a primary school class).
In WWII there was a big battle about who were the super-men : the Aryans (because it’s the best race)? the chosen people (because God said so)? the subjects of her Majesty’s (because they ruled almost the entire world with their knowledge and education) ? The people of the new world (because the old world was crap, it had no technologies) ? Finally it’s the sub-human Russians who smashed the arrogant westerners best forces, bastards! What a humiliation.

Nb:
It’s not strictly Russophobia, because when you talk about snow, sledges on the snow, Tsars, Tchaikovsky and ballets, Westerners have a very romantic view about Russia. It’s also not strictly revanchist because it’s not about a revenge for something the Russians did in the first place.

You are correct. From the Anglosphere point of view, World War II did not at all go as planned. Here’s the best explanation I have ever found on the motivations for British appeasement:

“For all the other acts of brutality at home and aggression

for strength at the centre to withstand the incessant infiltration of

And Lord Lloyd was no isolated right-wing crank. Within months of his book being published, he was a member of Churchill’s Cabinet, the Secretary of State for Colonies.

To summarize, as long as the merest threadbare shred of a hope of a possibility of a chance remained of Hitler sticking it to the Russians, anything Hitler did was fine with the Anglosphere. Only when Hitler sent Ribbentrop to Moscow and then invaded Poland did the Anglosphere turn against Hitler. And even then, Chamberlain wanted to keep the possibility of coming to an anti-Soviet agreement with a new German government from which Hitler was removed. This explains the ‘Phony War’.

So, yeah, the Anglosphere was deeply upset that Hitler didn’t come to an agreement with them then attack the Russians.

Dear The Saker,

Thanks for this – you are right. I wanted to reply yesterday but gave up until the IT problems were sorted.

It seems US Congressman Dana Rohrabacher is the only one calling out FU Nuland and trying to make sense yesterday. We need more like him pushing back (I note an ex Ambassador too). He is the only one who showed some humanity during the hearing thinking about the effect it would have on the Ukranian people and how they would suffer. I thought Nuland looked a bit wild eyed and messy during the hearing. Some MP’s in the German parliament were also having a go too. The Neo-cons/1%ers are really not happy – are they? Their utter hatred of Russia is quite palatable now. Their desperation for weapons and now US boots on the ground. They are twisting the narrative to blame Russia for their failings, death and destruction in Ukraine – everything they do is Russia’s fault. Black is white and white is black.

It is also important to remember the UN resolution against Nazism put forward by Russia – note the countries who vetoed it or abstained – it tells you everything.

History repeats itself. That is why history is so important – we can’t learn if we don’t know the past or why things were done/happened. This irrational hatred of Russia started before WWII because Russia has always been in the way of the “Elites” plans for over 100 years. WWII was the last time they tried to really have a war against Russia face to face – and now they are trying again to bring her down to their wishes/level. Unfortunately for them, Russia is strong and able as she was over 70 yrs ago and ready. She also has a good strong leader which they cannot bear.

I also think there is a strong anti Orthodox Christian element at play (the same for Islam). They also want to destroy all ancient beliefs and cultures in order to control humanity. Look at ISIL and all these terror groups and how they destroy ancient monuments, books, churches, monastries, mosques as well as the destruction/theft/death that occurs during of the US wars.

Mr.Saker, if you start a piece from false premisses and serious misconceptions, you will only reach false conclusions.
Your views of WWII are ludicrous, obviously heavily distorted by the many decades of brainwashing propaganda – including Soviet/Russian – we have all been subjected to.

Zusa and ZUK did everything they could to destroy Germany, including massively helping Stalins Soviet Union through the Lend-Lease policy, providing it with roughly 17.5 million tons of military equipment, vehicles, industrial supplies, and food were shipped from the Western

Why did ZUSA and ZUK want to destroy Germany so bad? There are several reasons, one of the most important and least discussed of which was to stop Hitler’s alternative economic system before it could endanger the Capitalist system.
If the German economic miracle was based on foreign money from Capitalistic Powers, why did Winston Churchill write: “Germany’s unforgivable crime before the second world war was her attempt to extricate her economic power from the world’s trading system and to create her own exchange mechanism which would deny world finance its opportunity to profit.” (Letter from

Also take a look at Ellen Brown’s book ‘Web of Debt’. Ellen is constantly featured in leftist alternative media on economic matters, such as Globareaserch. Read chapter 24, titled ‘Sneering at Doom: a Bankrupt Germany finances a Recovery Without Money”.

    Saker’s piece is on the undercurrents in regard to Ukraine which date back to WWII. You seem to be giving long posts on the great Nazi financial miracle/Nazi German economy?? By the way you don’t mention many more German industrialists who worked with the Nazi’s, for example, Porsche who helped build tanks for Hitler. You also refer to a US born Yale Historian as some kind of “expert” on this matter – Skull & Bones member maybe ;)? So what does this have to do with revanchism and Russophobia today and the elites/oligarchs? – which the piece is about. Thanks.

  One aspect left out in all discussions about who started the war between Germany and USSR is the rapprochement between the two countries after the Ribentropp-Molotov Pact.

Someone might say yes to your question if we start from the assumption that Hitler was the face of Zionist imperialism. But the question is whether this hypothesis is robust. If we go back in history and we discover that Hitler was financed before and even during the war by the Ford and Rockefeller oligarchs, we can therefore say that this assumption holds well and therefore we will have shown why to answer yes to your question.

Saker, you know I am a Catholic. A number of years back in the mid-1990’s, I did two years of research into this topic. Hitler was also a Catholic, having been baptized as a child, and remained a Catholic believer right up to the end of his life. He dutifully maintained his membership in the Church and paid the Church tax and maintained in his personal statements his own sense of being one of the faithful. When he died, the head of the German Epsicopate, Cardinal Bertram, ordered a solemn requiem mass to be said for him. This seems strange behavior if he was a raging atheistic occultist.

“It [the news of Hitler’s death] ran: `From the Fuehrer’s headquarters it is reported that our Fuehrer Adolf Hitler fell today for Germany at his command post in the Reich Chancellery, fighting against Bolshevism to his last breath.’ … While [Cardinal Bertram] was still under the immediate impact of this news … he took up his pen. What’s more, Hitler confessed to and received Holy Communion from a man who functioned as his personal priest up to his death in the late 1930’s, Abbot Alban Schachleiter. You can read some about him here:

After the death of the Abbot, it does not seem that Hitler continued further with active practice of the faith. Thus was said:

The year 1937, with the death of Schachleiter, and the condemnation of Naziism by the Vatican in “Mit Brennender Sorge” were apparently decisive in Hitler’s active Catholic spiritual life.

Bishop Hudal was also the organizer of the “Ratlines” which allowed many Nazi Germans, Croatian Ustashe, Ukrainian Nationalists, and other Nazi collaborators to escape to South America and elsewhere, with direct complicity by the Vatican and American financing funnelled through “Church Refugee Relief” funds (undoubtedly OSS/CIA money in my mind), to wait to fight another day for dreams of dominance on the plains of Eastern Europe. “most (continental) Europeans” : well, no, quite a few I think, even among the corrupted elites. We Frenches may be accused of accepting the defeat which led to more German power of fire destined to USSR, but even the accusation of “treason” must be rejected, as in 1940, the Germany-USSR pact was still active.
And I would like to thank you for teaching me all these projects of invasion of USSR by USA, and in return, to inform you that Stalin’s own project was to invade Western Europe and massive killings were implemented to this effect, by people whose only acts of resistance were very often killing innocent people on the order of Communist party, and whose victims were often real resistants. The Wend hit the nail. There is indeed an inherited, instinctive hatred of Russia and Russians, but as he points out, against Serbians, Greeks, Romanians as well. It has, as a comment to his post hit deeper the nail: “true, but I think it has to do with the religions: Catholic west and Orthodox east”.

These are the rants of a certain ” Rabbi Carrillon of the Reformed Synagogue of Spanishtown, Jamaica” presumably sometimes in the 19th Century. The Czar Nicholas is either the First or the Second. The entry on Google where I took this from is without any indication as to date.

The Internet site “RemantReport explains: 1. To acquire more territory (Ezekiel 38:8). 2. To plunder Israel’s wealth (38:12). (Israel’s newly-discovered vast reserves of natural in the Mediterranean, of course, CS). 3. To destroy the Jews (38:11, 16). And 4. To challenge the authority of the Antichrist who will temporarily be Israel’s ally due to a treaty mentioned in Daniel 9:27 “That ruler will have a firm agreement with many people for seven years.”
Of course, if Gog is Putin, then we all know who the natural candidate for the Antichrist is. But let’s put that aside for now. In any case, there is a nuclear confrontation (“I will start a fire in the land of Magog and along all the seacoasts where people live undisturbed, and everyone will know that I am the Lord) and then a massive seven-month cleanup and a mass burial, somewhere in Jordan, it seems.
If you’re a Christian, the fun is just beginning: An army of “200 million” men will come from the East, according the Book of Revelations, and there’s only one country that can raise such an army.   Not so. His father was Kenyan, his mother American (as in USA white). That does not make him Kenyan. That makes him half-breed, ie exactly as much American as Kenyan. Neither parent was Muslim. His mother moved to Indonesia where she married/lived with an Indonesian man who WAS Muslim. This became Obama’s stepfather. After a few years, by his mid-teens, they were back in the USA, where he occasionally attended a Baptists church.
  
  There is nothing to indicate he ever took any serious interest in any of the religions that surrounded him. Certainly not enough to feel he needs to “avenge” any of them. I would say it is a pretty damn good analysis of Western policies towards Russia.
The problem as I see it the trend like this ain’t easy to reverse and the trend is clearly moving toward hot war. There never was that Russia despite all political and diplomatic efforts managed to avoid war with the West when it is hell bent on conflict.

Just a few pertinent points pertaining to Ukraine’s Nazi putsch. In short, some “Lessons Learned”:

1) Merkel found out that smashing the Ukro economy has absolutely zero impact with regard to the Ukros’ amusing brand of “patriotism” — they really do enjoy their status as True Western Subjects, no matter what.

2) Nuland found out that Marie Antoinette made an inexcusable mistake by not taking action accordingly, being too lazy a person. In short: “Let them eat cake” works miracles, at least when dealing with the Ukro-trash.

Totally agree with you Saker, they were not happy with Stalin, although thanks to their efforts and of the Russian people refrained / neutralized Nazism, which some of us never appreciate enough. What is striking and shocking is the number of Russians, some of whom write here, which point to the task of stripping Stalin of any value nor as a man and as a statesman, a clear allusion to what surely is his bedside book, the book that Trotsky himself dedicated to “as unintelligent and insignificant man” as Stalin. A book that distills an insane jealousy and resentment of that who considered himself above average men of his time (and this was no more than a delusion of Trotsky) and could never overcome that a man from the humblest of society without economic means and yet all (in the environment of their upbringing) against, summoning a relentless determination and will, become an intellectual reference ( self made ) for all Marxists leaving a nothing negligible written work and the great leader who was leading his people to the category of serfs peasants to occupy prominent positions in almost all sciences / disciplines.

The end of World War Two was the ‘beginning of the end’ for old world imperialism. From the ashes of the war, the United States and the Soviet Union emerged as dominant powers who aimed to reshape the world in their own image. America with atomic weapons and the world’s strongest economy was challenged by the Soviet Union, who after the war, possessed the world’s largest conventional army and controlled one fifth of the globe, including parts of Central and Eastern Europe. The two wartime allies disagreed on the future political direction for the world. Even though, in 1946 in San Francisco they were the co-founders of the United Nations, whose aim was collective security, they followed policies of self interest. In the post war world ‘our glorious Soviet allies’ and their leader ‘Uncle Joe’ became ‘enemy number one’.

Decolonization in Asia and Africa, instability in Europe, as well as oppressive right wing dictatorships in Central and South America exposed the conflicting interests of Soviet and American imperialism. These conflicting political and economic interests created a bipolar world where ‘communists’ or what in reality was “state capitalism” led by the Soviet Union and the ‘democracies’ or what in reality was “corporate controlled capitalism” in Washington struggled for the minds and hearts of people in developing nations. This struggle, in other words, “the Cold War mixed domestic and international threats and anxieties, and created a crisis atmosphere which was temporarily useful — but blown out off all reasonable proportions.” The Soviet Union under the guise of communism, and the United States under the guise of democracy, competed directly or indirectly, to dominate the post war world.

The wartime allies, America and the Soviet Union, disagreed on the future political direction of the countries in Central and Western Europe. The Russians refused to allow their wartime allies any input into the political choices they made for the territories under their control. They justified this position by saying that the Western Powers refused to give them any say in the future of Western Europe that was under the influence of America. This lack of co-operation, and more importantly the domination of Central and Eastern Europe by the Soviets, concerned President Truman. This lack of co-operation was seen by the Truman administration as a direct challenge to American political and economic interests, even though, CIA reports, in 1945, portray the Soviets as a spent force, large in number with their homeland devastated, their economy in ruins, and their supply lines inadequate. According to intelligence analysis, it would take some fifteen years before they could militarily challenge the West in Europe since the intelligence agencies estimated that the Russians would not possess nuclear weapons for another five years.” They did, however, have sufficient conventional forces to influence events in countries where left wing movements were active in their attempts to overthrow the existing governments. Of particular concern for America was the communist influence in Greece and Turkey. Formerly under British influence, this strategic area was used in the past to prevent the tsars from challenging British imperialism in the Mediterranean. With the demise of the British ability to maintain the status quo, America stepped in to stop what they saw as a ‘domino effect’ in a region which was of historic strategic importance to capitalism. To this end, America introduced the Truman Doctrine, whose aim was to stop the spread of communism, whether local or international, by helping the existing government stay in power, whether a dictatorship or democracy, as long as it was friendly to American interests.

In Western Europe, particularly in France and Italy, economic crisis led to the election of large communist parties. More immediately, the easy takeover of Czechoslovakia by the communists scared the Congress into implementing the proposed Marshal Plan designed to help European economic recovery. America introduced the Marshall Plan in order to combat the communist threat to Europe and American influence by means of a ‘full belly’. At the same time the Marshal Plan allowed American companies to jump the tariff walls and American multinational corporations were able to dominate European commerce from the inside. Also, the implementation of the Marshal plan led to the integration of German, French and Belgian coal and steel industries, the first step to the present European Union, dominated by United States and its new military bureaucracy NATO. Moreover, this integration was intended to stop German militarism and revenge by integrating the German economy with that of her neighbors. Even though, the Marshal Plan aid was offered to the Soviet Union, they saw it as a ‘Trojan Horse’, and refused it, since they saw it as an attempt to de-communize Eastern Europe. The political ‘tug of war’ and ‘one-upmanship’ in Europe and at home in America did not end with the Marshal Plan, but continued through espionage, propaganda, and series of crisis which created a symbiotic relationship between the Soviet and American industrial military complexes. The state of Crisis intensified with the communist takeover in China in 1949 and the Soviet explosion of the A-bomb. The Soviets saw many of these events as self defenses, while Americans saw the same events as a threat to her democracy.

Outside of Europe, at the end of the Pacific War, America feared that Soviet entry would lead to communization of Asian territories that came under her control. At the same time Truman felt that, Soviets would help the Chinese communists in their effort to expel the American ally Chiang Kai-Shek from China. Communization of China could mean an end to the historic Open Door Policy that America had supported, since 1922, in relationship to this country. Soviets had a large conventional Army and they were committed to enter the war against Japan. Truman did not want the Soviet control in Asia to follow the European example. His fears were proved right as the Soviets helped communize North Korea and China. Communization of North Korea and China was followed by attempts to communize the whole of the Korean peninsula. “In 1949, there was the Communist victory in China, and in that year also, the Soviet Union exploded its first atomic bomb. In 1950 the Korean War began. These were all portrayed to the public as signs of a world Communist conspiracy.” Anti-communist elements in America viewed as equally serious, “anti-imperialist insurrection in the world, which would require gigantic American effort to defeat: national unity for militarization of the budget, for the suppression of domestic opposition to such a foreign policy.”

These anti-communist elements, lead by Herbert Hoover and Joseph McCarthy, by their propaganda brought out the most repugnant side in human nature. In the name of patriotism and self promotion many Americans, like Ronald Regan and Charleston Hesston turned in their friends to government committees. Even though, “some of this propaganda had an element of truth much of it was so strident and overblown that it became virtually impossible to establish whether or not there was a communist threat.” Certainly, the Soviet espionage rings were present in the West. Igor Guzenko, a cipher clerk in the Soviet embassy in Ottawa, sounded a warning to their presence. Russian archive today indicates that Soviet spies like Julius and Ethel Rosenberg had passed atomic secrets to Soviet agents. However, espionage is as old as history; all sides participate in it, one way or another. McCarthyism gave the American government an opportunity to bring into line dissent, the media, the film industry, and the unions. Furthermore, American government used the fear of Communism to increase military spending and suppress left wing revolutions in Latin America and anti-colonial revolutions in Asia and Africa.

American government broke its own laws in order to suppress Communism in America. The threat to American democracy was more domestic than foreign. Internationally, however, establishment of quasi-communist dictatorships in Eastern and Southern Europe as well as in China threatened American economic influence in these areas. By creating an anti-communist paranoia, American government was able to justify to its people the need for greater and greater military expenditures. Also, it was easier to justify keeping American troops in Europe and sending them to fight in the Korean War. The threat from communist espionage in America, in the immediate post war period, was something that the legal institutions could have controlled. It was Stalinist totalitarianism, which was a threat, both inside and outside the Soviet Union. Ideas, whether communist or capitalist, are never a threat in a society that respects freedom of speech which is protected by the rule of law, due process and an independent judiciary.

Those plans of attack which I had never heard of but knew must exist did not happen because such plans are the bread and butter of military and foreign policy bureaucracies and no president then or up to now would ever have launched them. One can sort of imagine a future president would if they could go back in time but such what ifs don’t deserve much thought.

Americans of the post WWII generations have one overriding image of Russia. That is what Russians did to each other during the Soviet era. Such things were not done by one man, Stalin, such things as the purges, the famines, the Gulag mean to Americans, rightly or wrongly, that the Russian soul, for lack of a better term, is….., well pick your bad word. Evil?

The American refusal of the chance to engage Russia fully after the fall of the USSR and instead base all on those older notions of Russian evil and endless confrontation is now water under the bridge. The chance is now gone. I will say, again in some alternate history,if the USSR had come out on top post WWII the results for all the globe would have been far worse. If America now fails retain some sympathy for our flaws are the same as all peoples and all empires. Pride, gluttony, hubris; the whole list of sins.

Surely yes, fascist/Nazi sympathy was plentiful in the Anglo speaking world pre war among the elites, and post war in an attuned version. Attuned meaning without all the war and murder. How much of that has determined what has happened since up until today is relatively minor. Such things, full blown fascism, is not part of American elites but resides mostly among populist and powerless citizens.

PS Saker’s insistence upon rhetoric using words like Zionist and all manner of invective, Eurocretins, is destructive to his purpose.

In my opinion we should look at global politic and ,,Russian” thing in light of struggle for hegemony and complete dominance. There mustn’t be any free country, it’s a bad example. Inadequacy just amplifies antagonism towards Russia, especially because they are Slavs.
Slavic theme is elephant in the corner in EU relationships. Also from my perspective Orthodoxy is one of the keys if not the main one. All Orthodox countries are under great pressure, morally, economically, militarily. If we look more closely trough history, Slavic nations were/are submitted to bloody occupations until they are completely submitted first religiously then morally (with way of life) and politically. Look at the Slovakia, Czech Rep, Poland, Croatia, Ukraine. After submission they are used against rest of the ,,their brothers”. Bloodiest inquisitions where in eastern Europe not in the Spain as is commonly thought, in WWI and WWII most victims of horrific crimes where Slavic, mostly orthodox people. Goebbels and Hitler prepared a monstrous demographic program (mainly for Ukraine) which included birth control, propagation of abortion and ways of moral corruption to decrease and submit population.

Very importent post and issue ! I came to the same conclusion. Strange enough that the only two countries directly of indirectly targeted by Nato were Serbia – that had during WWII the largest and stronger resistance fighting force (royalist or communist) and largely contributed to delay operation Barbarossa – and Soviet Russia, that defeated nazi Europe (already a European community) almost alone. Churchill didn’t hide that he was unsatisfied with the results of war, and prepared a stand by army of Germans and eastern european nazis for the conquest of Russia.

Saker, you raise an interesting specter. If one looks at history, one finds that the elites funded the communist party during WWI to overthrow the Tsar because John D. Rockefeller could not stand the competition to his oil empire. In fact, there is research out that it was Rockefeller and some of his friends that started to fund Russia’s enemies before 1905 in order to destabilize the country. Also, when I investigated the Crimean War, who did I find at the center of the aggression on Russia, but Louis Napoleon, of France. Remember, it was Russia that defeated Napoleon Bonaparte in 1814-1815 and got written out of history by the British at Waterloo. So I have a suspicion that the Crimean War was waged against Russia in revenge for the defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte. Russia, when it was the gendarme of Europe after the defeat of Napoleon largely stayed out of European politics and only intervened upon request. Contrast that with the actions of the US and Western Europe in this century. Also, it has largely been again Russia that was written out of history during WWII by the same US and UK so they could take credit again. Do we need to also revisit the economic rape of the Russians under Yeltsin? All of this directed against a country that helped the US come into being and defended the union during the US Civil War. What a travesty!

They didn’t bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki to scare Russia.

My first take, even in my salad days when I was green, is not “What’s wrong with this picture?” it is “What’s missing from this picture?”

I remember WWII and early on had read enough histories to have an overall impression of the genre. One day, reading about the Pacific war, it suddenly struck me “Where are the maps?” An abundance of maps is a mark of the histories of the war in Europe, detailing the location of every general and marshal and the direction of travel. But not in the histories of the war in the Pacific.

So if the usual maps were there for the closing days of the war, what would they show? My motto, like Rikki Tikki Tavi’s, is “run and find out.”

A good part of the Red Army was on a forced march down the Pacific coast to accept the Japanese surrender.

The Americans were holding out for unconditional surrender. The Japanese wanted one condition: the Emperor should not be hanged as a war criminal. In Stockholm they found a more sympathetic ear from the USSR.

This theory has resurfaced many times through the decades. It can probably be found in dozens of unpublished PhD theses in university archives. It’s been in a book or two. There are a few professors of history who mention it, and more who say “Oh, well, I never mention it because everybody knows that.

Yatsenyuk has the charisma of a wharf rat and the very idea of trotting him around Europe on a “charm offensive” prior to dumping Poroshenko merits nothing but ridicule. Somebody seems to have been coaching him to smile more, too. Yyych.

However, can he possibly be as inept as he seemed peddling the view that WWII was the invasion of Ukraine, Poland and Germany by Russia? I wonder if he wasn’t primed for that because somebody’s intelligence service had leaked to him that Angela Merkel shared this opinion.

Angela’s public statement does nothing to dispel this view. She loudly proclaimed that her government and all post-war governments before it, put the entire blame for the war and all its suffering on Germany.

What’s missing? She fails to address the point, which is not how to characterize Germany’s role, but how to characterize “Russia’s.” (Yatsenyuk doesn’t want to mention the USSR, since Ukraine was an SSR in the U.)

Propaganda has replaced reality for so long they believe their con job on the globe will work if they destroy enough humans close enough to the waters rising so that the natural world warming will erase most of humanity to win the global war on humanity. About that “That most jews had little or no sympathy for USSR”, is not true for France, and Italy.
In France lots of Jews from Russian, Polish, East-European. as well as North-African origin were members of the Communist-Party. working class and intellectuals. The same in Italy.
Lot’s of them were my friends, also against Israel. Also Egyptian jews who had to flee to France
because of Nasser anticommunist policy.

As putting Stalin and Putin in the same basket? Stalin was strong but smart, that’s another question.
He was cruel above all. And it is understandable that it was no good news for Eastern European people to have to be in the Warsaw Pact, as part of the deal in Yalta.

Putin is strong and really smart and I hope with all my heart that he is going to win the actual poisoned fight that the “West” organised to topple him, and make Russia an american colony.
