I have to honestly confess here that my opinion of the Egyptian people was not very high until recently. Frankly, it offended me that they would accept to help the Israelis to strangle the Palestinians, it also offended me that they would accept having their country sold out to US imperial interests. I guess, its their silence which offended me most. I now realize that my feeling was unfair. Yes, the Egyptians were silent, but they were also waiting for a time to speak up. And when the time came, they really spoke up very loudly and clearly.
What the Egyptians are doing today is AMAZING! Maintaining the mass demonstrations for two weeks while having several hundred comrades being murdered by the regime’s thugs is absolutely without precedent (at least, I cannot think of one). The economic plight of the people of Egypt is worsening day by day, and yet the crowds are becoming bigger and bigger.
Most amazing of all – these demonstrators actually appear to be SPONTANEOUS. Also something without precedent (at least as far as I can recall).
I am now really full of admiration for these people and I wish them well in this most dangerous situation.
I just heard this murderous buffoon Suleiman seriously telling the Egyptian people to, I am not kidding you, just “go home” and “stop watching satellite TV”.
He is apparently as crazy as his boss Mubarak.
May God help the Egyptian people tomorrow. It would take a miracle for the situation not to explode into mass violence now.
Saker, is Revolution 2.0 simply astroturf?

The U.S. brought Egyptian activists to the U.S. to attend a 2008 event in NYC put on by a group called the “Alliance for Youth Movements”. What is AYM? It’s a joint corporate/State Department initiative to push for youth political movements globally (yeah right) using social networking tools — Twitter, Facebook, Google, etc. Corporate America is paying big bucks to participate in AYM.
It was started by by a State Department wunderkind named Jared Cohen, a Bush appointee and Obama holdover who is also an adjunct fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. The other founders were three ex-Google employees. Remember that Google has very close relationships with the U.S. intelligence-industrial complex — they purchased Google Earth from In-Q-Tel, the CIA’s venture capital arm; they are investing jointly with In-Q-Tel in new web search functionality that builds public dossiers on people; and they just got a huge secret government contract with the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency to do who knows what. (I add parenthetically that Mr. Cohen is in Egypt.)
@Publius: Saker, is Revolution 2.0 simply astroturf?
Frankly, no, I don’t think so. But I am no expert on Egypt, so don’t take my word for it. I just don’t think the Empire would take the risk of rocking the boat, not with Egypt which is absolutely VITAL to its Zio-interests.
This is more like Iran 1979: not a US operation, but a monumental US failure.
My 2cts
The revolution is far more genuine than astroturf… however i do think that there are definite sections of this revolution that is astroturf. And I hope that the genuine revolutionaries are aware of this issue, and how the US is attempting to redirect the revolution – both in their direct support for the regime, and within the movement itself. The fake “youth movement” will attempt to “moderate” the revolution, and attempt to not discuss issues such as zionism, imperialism, Islam, etc.
What is interesting is that some Saudis I have come to know here see what has been taking place as the beginning of a Renaissance for the Arab world. Yet at the same time, they do not believe it will happen here because it is a Kingdom rule mentality. And they are convinced and fear that if a revolution did actually happen here, it will be a Taliban like government that will take over.
And I believe that the US government would be more fearful of a revolution taking place here than in Egypt, considering how oil dependent we Americans are and considering how some from this country have served US interests in the region even more than Egypt has….
