The photo on the sidebar of Saker’s site reminds me to pause and remember the Romanov Imperial family:
On the night of 16-17 July 1918, a squad of Bolshevik secret police murdered:
Tsar Nicholas II age 50
Tsarina Alexandra age 46 yrs
Their children-
Grand Duchess Olga 23 yrs,
Grand Duchess Tatiana 21 yrs,
Grand Duchess Maria 19 yrs,
Grand Duchess Anastasia 17 yrs,
Grand Duke Alexei 14 yrs.
The family together with four of their servants (Dr Botkin, lady-in-waiting Anna Demidova, footman Troop and cook Kharitonov) were cut down in a hail of gunfire in the cellar of the Ipatiev house in Ekaterinburg.
Twenty fours later, at Alapayevsk, north of Ekaterinburg, on 18 July 1918 the following were savagely beaten and thrown alive down an abandoned pit. Grenades were hurled down the shaft to kill them.
‘Ella’ – Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna, age 53 (sister of Tsarina Alexandra)
Grand Duke Sergei Mikhailovich Romanov age 48
Prince Ioann Konstantinovich age 32
Prince Konstantin Konstantinovich age 27
Prince Igor Konstantinovich age 24 (the above three were brothers)
Prince Vladimir Pavlovich Paley age 21
and Feodor Remez secretary to Sergei
and Varvara Yakovlevna, a nun from the Grand Duchess’s convent.
Then on 28 January 1919, these grand dukes, members of the Romanov family, were executed by the Bolsheviks at the Peter and Paul Fortress, St Petersburg.
Grand Duke Paul Alexandrovich –ill and shot on a stretcher (father of the above murdered Prince Paley)
Grand Duke Dmitry Konstantinovich (uncle to the above murdered Ioan, Konstantin and Igor)
Grand Duke Nicholas Mikhailovich, and his brother
Grand Duke George Mikhailovich (brothers of the above murdered Grand Duke Sergei Mikhailovich)
Rest in Peace.

Many thanks for putting up this list almost up to date ( 98 years ago ) to remember on what is all about regarding Russia, where has started and why is still going on till today, to understand who the real perpetrators behind these killings were and who are those who are pursuing the same attacks on Russia even in different ways but the scope is the same : to destroy it. Without not going deep to the roots of this plot, we will never understand the real causes of the Empire’s attack on Russia. But I’m confident that here are many capable people around who know what is going on and why.
ioan,
“to understand who the real perpetrators behind these killings were and who are those who are pursuing the same attacks on Russia even in different ways but the scope is the same: to destroy it” >
Very true. However, people need to put efforts, quality time, and set objectives for the same. There comes the issue – i found peoples more interested in venting sentimental rants than carrying out analysis. More interestingly, I found many bloggers not thinking about how to move forward, but insisting only on looking back. Personally, being a lifelong student of history-politics etc. I always look back to get sufficient understanding to try to see how future can be shaped.
An ancient people like Slavs, a well-knit society like Russian, a well-established culture based on Orthodox Christianity (that has been so broad-minded to bring all other tribal socio-religious formations when Russian emperors spread into central Asia and Siberia), with thriving intellectual life and industrious social life can not be undone just like that – even if the AngloZionist satanic hegemon tries for another century, they will never be able to subdue it, forget about conquering it !
Having said that, can we coolly start thinking whether it is at all possible to see Russia as a country run by Tsar in this 21st century, and more importantly, is it feasible to ensure participation of common peoples (that is being tested during past couple of decades in most of the countries through ‘democracy through elected representative’, result of which, in my views, are not that satisfactory till date, even if you take into account USA, which is focussed as most successful democracy) in formulation of state policies and running of state administration ? Answer, my friend, will most likely be ‘no’. Shouldn’t we then try to focus on a society and state that will cater to the current society, economy and technology to fulfil the peoples aspirations while maintaining the traditional culture, religion, and moral values ?
Straight-Bat
Of course, erecting a new Tsar in Russia, well, today it’s out of question (i don’t know what is the Russians opinion about that), so the answer is in your second question with which I do agree, with the note : having learned the lessons of the past in the hard way and by learning very quickly the lessons from today with which they are currently confronted.
Question. Is Putin not a de facto Tsar or Czar? Is he not aware of what he and his family would suffer if Russia lets down her guard? With the Love Army, I send my love to Russia, by actions that do not assist the empire. Oh, say like usury; which Russ still does not get; and thereby helps to dig her own grave. Sorry, but the truth does hurt.
To Russia with love. Tough love, not the cotton candy kind.
Dennis Leary,
” Question. Is Putin not a de facto Tsar or Czar? Is he not aware of what he and his family would suffer if Russia lets down her guard? ” >
Your question is a very simple one that attracts extremely complex response. Following the existing Russian government ‘structure’, Putin is an elected Head of State … However, if we consider the behavioural aspects of how Putin manages/operates government/administration, Putin could be thought of as a ‘Tsar’ … Having said that, I feel Putin is too modest, people-oriented and down-to-earth personality who can’t really bring back the aristocratic ‘glory’ of Tsar era!
If we feel that only ‘Tsar’ family got decimated by the opponents seeking power, then we are terribly wrong ! Killing of deposed ruler (monarchy/democracy/military rule) is very common, if one looks into history of past 7000 years. So, Putin simply being a ruler of the largest and one of the greatest country in the world would attract many attempts on his life.
ioan,
Thanks – I appreciate your response, and agree fully that Russian leadership needs ‘learning very quickly the lessons from today’. Actually, your concluding statement identifies a gate which has many ‘probable openings’ – the most suitable one has to be chosen that, in my view, will ensure establishing a society where common people (plebe) get their rights and decent standard of living, (which are outcome of a justice & equality driven agenda).
The allure of elitist-aristocratic rule (whether by a Monarch or by Military ruler or by Elected Dictator) is hard to be ignored especially for someone who loves reading history – however it is a fact that, history is littered with despotic elitist-aristocratic oppressors with only few occasional sparks of wise rulers who took care of commoners in his/her empire/country.
Babushka in Oz,
God have mercy! what savagery. To even shoot an p;d and ill person on a stretcher. This part you mentioned I did not know.

Babushka,
The murders of the royal family were truly horrendous and I suspect revenge for earlier Russian moves that thwarted certain interests in the west. And the slaughter of so many ordinary Russians in the ethnic cleansing and civil war that followed is terrible to contemplate. But I would say this – justice may not have been served and the descendents of the facilitators and the actual killers not yet put to the sword – but at least the Russians remember and recognise these terrible tragedies. As long as the truth is remembered, the ancestors may yet find peace and their values preserved by future generations of loyal sons and daughters of the soil of your ancient motherland land.
Alas, the sons and daughters of my ancient homeland, India, scoff in disbelief when I try to explain the multiple and centuries long genocides that were conducted upon us by the British and others to bring us to heel.
As long as the Russians (and others) remember who they are – their values, their culture, their identity – they may yet prevail in this world of chaos and confusion.
Well, that little litany puts to rest that the first executions were just a bunch of local yokels getting out of hand. Lenin did study how to seize and take power while he made assessments of what did not go his way in the 1905 uprisings and other street encounters. Stupid he was not.
Expect some major massive purge-terror activities from Erdogan who obviously is not (stupid) either and has both Hilter and Stalin to emulate in establishing his Islamic state. He will have to add a few 21st century fillips to the process to make it stick for awhile.
Amendment
The first Romanov murdered was Grand Duke Mikhail Alexandrovich – (the younger brother of Nicholas II), who had been arrested and exiled to Perm, Siberia. On 1 June 1918, Mikhail Romanov and his secretary Brian Johnson, an Englishman, were taken by a band of Bolsheviks into the wood near Perm and shot. Their bodied have never been found.
I think the politisized WADA ruling against Russia is part of a wider campaign that also involves the FIFA fiasco of some months back that really has the aim of denying Russia the 2018 Football World Cup.
The ground is being laid to say:
“look, the Russians are hopelessly corrupt and tainted as far as Sports is concerned….as a result, they should not be allowed to host something as prestigious as the World Cup”
Why is all this being done?
The aim is to isolate and torment Russia as much as possible with the hope of fomenting “regime change” and if that fails, war!
The stakes are really that high.
Why?
Russia under Putin’s leadership continues to defy Western geopolitical ambitions. This defiance has manifested itself in many ways and places:
1. Syria is one such place where Russia has thwarted Western machinations
2. Iran also. I hear the S300 parts are starting to arrive
3. Russia’s continued strategic alignment with China is also a major problem
4. Bypassing the US dollar in global trade and encouraging others to follow suit is also very troubling…..
Some of the fertile areas where Russian influence was spreading have come in for sustained slash and burn attacks from Washington, with the aim of curtailing that influence, namely:
Argentina- new right wing government installed.
Brazil- Rousef sidlined also by pro Washington right wing individuals.
Venezuela- being literally starved into submission.
Cuba- being ensared by a charm offensive whose aim is “regime change”…….
The decision is therefore to use whatever means available, fair or foul, politics, economics, sport, it dosnt matter, just as long as Russia hurts in the process.
The attempted coup in Turkey was also aimed at further hobbling Russia and its seeming failure is a major blow to those efforts.
The Ukraine could therefore go red hot soon. Being part of the Washington’s campaign against Russia and given its relative proximity could see the Ukraine heat up…….
Let’s coin a phrase:
Full Spectrum Aggression
Or……’by any means neccessary’ but that ultimately cuts both ways.
two different takes on events in Turkey Sibel Edmond :http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/2016/07/18/newsbud-sibel-edmonds-dissects-the-turkey-coup-attempt-a-cia-gulen-concocted-dry-run/
Phill Giraldi: http://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/a-very-predictable-coup/
I think Giraldi minimizes the role of the Gulenists not wanting to detract against former colleagues.
About a month ago when I first heard Sibel’s take on the region, I thought she was a nut — she interfered with my Erdogan-hating. I now tend to believe her. She make many good points such as the nukes at incerlik.

My military guru sends items every once and awhile. Although we fight over how much to believe from this site ( Debka file)…he says it is a matter of learning to sift and winnow with a healthy measure of skepticism thrown in. to wit, see below:
“The UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) that flew on July 17 over northern Israel was a “Yasir’ drone made in Iran that was launched from a Hizballah base in Syria’s Qalamoun Mountains, some 60km from central Golan. This is reported by debkafile military and intelligence sources.
The Yasir can reach an altitude of 5,000 feet, operate in a 200km radius and stay aloft for 8 hours.
There is no information as to whether it was launched by a Iranian or a Hizballah team.
This UAV displayed exceptional maneuverability, unlike most drones, due it is believed to the advanced US electronic systems installed by reverse engineering of the American US ScanEagle drone that was downed intact over Iran on Dec. 17, 2012.
Our military and intelligence sources say this fundamental upgrade was carried out under the instruction of Chinese cyber warfare specialists.
The IDF, the Israeli air force and other western armies, including the US Air Force, are anxiously trying to find out how many replicas of the purloined US ScanEagle the Iranians have been able to manufacture.
They all watched the Iranian drone’s performance in evading Israeli air force jets and helicopters and ducking air-to-air missiles and Patriot surface-to-aircraft missiles before flying back to Syria after spending the best part of an hour over the Golan and Upper Galilee.
On October 2013, when Lt. Gen. Viktor Bondarev, the Russian Air Force Commander, visited Tehran, the Iranians made him a gift of a drone into which the sophisticated US electronic systems were implanted.
This would explain why the Russian command in Syria omitted to intervene or warn Israel of the approach of an alien UAV from Syria – in breach of the coordination agreement between Israel and Russia.
debkafile’s military sources add that the two Patriot missiles fired at the drone veered off course and crashed into each other. This was most probably one of the effects caused by the Iranian-Hizballah drone’s pirated US electronic capabilities.”
http://www.debka.com/article/25558/Drone-over-N-Israel-Iranian-with-stolen-US-apps-
It true (a big if) that would be great news (for Syria,Iran,Hezbollah, and Russia). And Russia may not have “shared” that information on the drone coming. So as to see what the results would be. Now, my only problem with this story, is with Israels “reaction”. Israel always reacts harshly when anything doesn’t go their way (anything at all). I haven’t heard of any mass bombing attacks on Hezbollah,or the like. And that breaks with their almost blanket MO.
@ UB1 I agree, I would have assumed that Israel would at least conduct a token strike on the base where the drone originated after such a humiliation. They have always felt free to launch attacks on Syria at their discretion.
Moreover, I am sure Israel has every blueprint of that drone’s construction and very likely was involved in the development in the first place.
re: drone slap down of Israel
1. It does not take 4 years to reverse engineer drone technology which would have been outdated by now anyway…So admirable aspects of the drone technology was maybe kept, but updated and improved upon.
2. the drone was unarmed–who knows what the Russian-Israeli agreements are about the area involved . Certainly this is not advanced weaponry but rather advanced surveillance equipment which might possibly be armed in the future…. no harm was done so there was no justification for over reacting . But a warning was given, perhaps?
3. If the Russians do not want the Israelis flying over Syrian territory, they just turn the jets back as they have done in the past.
4. the article, besides the self justifying rhetoric, has possible political purposes that may or may not become clear to us. Certainly there are all sorts of US budget committees ( secret and otherwise) being hit up by the Israeli military for funding at this very moment most likely. Certainly the old Cold War bugaboo of Russia-Chinese alliance is thrown into the mix of this article in a round-about way.
5. Sounds like some good ol’ neo con seething going on in this article.
6. possibly it was Russia-Syria sending a message to Israel which sends drones often over Syria and this article is just a precursor article to another more publicly circulated one re the purpose:. be afraid, be very afraid.
@ Teranam13
That’s great news. Poking fun at the chosen and exceptional Azionists, and using their own toys knowhow to boot, makes me believe that the technological warfare gap may not be as wide as I feared. Indeed the empire is much closer to have a foot in the grave. Blowback at work again and again.
Kim
An article in southfront or fortruss at the moment on Russia testing drones in Syria. Two patriots and an air to air missing sounds like Russia testing some electronic warfare. It is doubtful that any aircraft type drone would have the combination of speed, agility, and ability to withstand the G forces required to evade 3 modern missiles.
It appears the Western plan to humiliate Russia, and destroy her sporting ability is moving forward at a fast pace. This is my 3rd post on this subject .And I have little doubt that as the plan advances to a successful conclusion there will be more.
This is reported in RT today:
“The governing body for the Olympics also said it would not organize any sports events or meetings in Russia, which puts into question the 2019 Winter Universiade, planned to take place in the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk.”
“Due to the detailed references to the manipulation of drugs samples in the McLaren report, the IOC has called on the federations connected with winter sports not to host major events in Russia, such as World Championships or World Cups, and to look for alternative countries.”
“Given that Russia hosts numerous winter sports events, such as World Cup events in biathlon, cross country skiing and speed skating, this is likely to have a significant knock-on effect if implemented.”
There is absolutely nothing Russia can do to fight this onslaught by the West (in my opinion). She should withdraw from the the Western dominated World sporting organizations. You can’t deal fairly with those who intend to destroy you. After withdrawing from those organization. She needs to form parallel World sporting organizations open to athletes and countries around the World. But that the West will have no domination over. Russia needs to understand, she will have no fair place in any World organization (any at all,not just in sports) that is, or can be, dominated by the West. And its foolish and useless to bury one’s head in the sand and think otherwise. Certainly,in a “perfect World”, it would be different. But this isn’t a perfect World, very far from it. And its time for Russia to stop kowtowing to the West. And along with any and all nations that might support her ,form their own parallel World organizations. Just as there is competition in most businesses. Its possible to introduce competition here as well.

It’s very fair and real what you said about the dangers by pursuing this kind of instigation through sport by the west. I agree that Russia will have to take steps in this regard as you noted. I found also interesting to see all these events in the wake of Russian Parliamentary elections being held in September. I can hardly believe that they haven’t put on eye on this event when they did and continue to do things like this. As you earlier stated, there is no sphere where they will not try to put some brakes in against Russia and the main target is the Russian government under V.V.Putin. Any way, to win the great lottery – which might be the 2018 World Cup – they will have to make much more havoc. If even this will be “successfully” achieved let’s say in early 2017, then we can think more likely at war at the gates – which is in their mind. Interesting also to see the strategy and tactic used by playing on several “fields”.
Thanks for continuing to draw our attention to this, Uncle Bob 1. I read Putin’s statement on the Kremlin website, and it was quite heart-rending. He referred to the boycotts back in the 80’s, and how later, these actions were viewed by all sides as mistakes.
Totally out of left-field, I put this forward (since this is the café): What if Putin wants to keep Russia’s Olympic athletes out of these games? In this geopolitical situation right now, I believe they would be at serious risk in Brazil. Actually, I’m concerned about all athletes in Brazil – those pulling the strings have really lost it this time, it seems to me. (But I’m the one who believes GI Joe recently tried to directly get into it with the Russkies through Canada’s Arctic.)
To add to my previous comment (and apologies for pulling out the single subject, dull monotone again!)
When I saw that a Canadian lawyer was supporting the US effort to disqualify Russia, I first thought, “same as it ever was”, meaning that, just like in the 80’s, Canada is not willing to risk becoming a big, very dusty Kansas/Kazakhstan, for the sake of defending the spirit of fair play. Sorry, someone from across an ocean is going to have to challenge the US on this one.
But I wonder if there’s something more this time. Neither PM Trudeau or FM Dion have made a comment on this (at least I couldn’t find one). … So how many times, in these past two years — while Canadians (myself included) were acting with all the geopolitical awareness of a bunch of remote tribal villagers who have never seen a map — how many times, do you guess Putin was advised that the logical response to this mess is to occupy Canada? I would guess many, many, many times. And given that we are still ‘the true north strong and free’, Putin must believe in the value of a large, unoccupied territory between Russia and the US.
To me, this translates into a significant debt to our Russian neighbour that we will have to get serious about repaying. So is Canada, in effect, supporting Putin by taking the fall for blocking Russian athletes from these Olympic games?
Totally agree.
In many ways, the Olympic Games are long past any meaningful relationship to the ideal. It is essentially about money, corporate sponsorship and deals, and is riddled with scandals of all kinds. It us at this stage largely a media event with dwindling audiences.
Russia should view this more as an opportunity to return sports to their original ideals, and leave the rotting edifice of Western corporatized sporting institutions to their own implosion.
But they will have to be very proactive and go all out via allied countries on a media blitz to promote a serious alternative. Serious marketing of countries that are unknown to the West – a Eurasian- based vision for a true international sporting ideal.
This is where China could really play a significant role .
Yes you are right. The biggest advantage the West has,is “soft power”. An it is an enormous advantage for them. Sporting events, the MSM,music, movies,TV shows, etc. Those seen Worldwide are all dominated by the West. Worse of all is that “youth culture” is a lock for the West. And that includes in Russia herself.Western music stars and derived music is all over the World (including Russia). Rock,Hip-hop,Rap,are the “staples” of “new youth culture” even in Russia. Hollywood or Hollywood style movies and TV shows, are almost everywhere. If I could think of a word more meaningful than “dominate” I’d use it to describe what we see of their “soft power”. And that is how they start to control the World. If military force can’t be used. They count on their “soft power” to infiltrate and control a society. They used that (very effectively) to undermine the USSR. And learned from that how powerful it is,so continue to use it.
I don’t think it can be “fought”,like you would fight a military invasion. And that trying to ban it,is just counter-productive. The way to counter and defeat this type of invasion. Is to “co-opt” the methods the West uses, and make them yours. The Russians realized that with the MSM,and created RT,and Sputnik, among other news outlets. And they have been very effective (not 100% effective “yet”,but its still early in the fight),in countering the West’s news dominance. But the news is only the start of rolling back the West in the World’s culture. And much more needs to be done with music, movies, and sports, before we can really be successful.
I’ll leave this comment with just one more example. Maybe a small one. But I think its not small. I think it is very telling of the West’s “soft power” advantage. And one that I doubt many have even thought about. In Europe (among other places) one of the “badges of youth” and the population in general,is the wearing of tee-shirts,sweatshirts,cloth jackets.Look at pictures you see of crowds on your streets,or see the clothes your or your friends kids are wearing. Many of them have writing in English all over the front of them. Many have pictures of sights connected with the US. Many of them carry “brand” names of US Universities, towns,or companies, etc,on their fronts. How many of them are connected to the countries people wearing them “?”, the answer is very few. And yet “even” young Russian music stars (patriotic ones BTW) many times are on stage wearing tee shirts with things like “New York Univ,USC,etc” (in English) on them. And that type of thing is Worldwide. Its so common and so “accepted” without question. That the people wearing the clothes,or seeing them, don’t even think about the propaganda value that is for the US. It automatically associates the US with “cool, hip, modern, culture”.Just what the youth Worldwide want to aspire to.The clothes themselves may be “made in China or Bangladesh, etc”.But the propaganda they put out is pure propaganda for the US.The US (and West in general) dominates so-called “Global Culture”.And they know they do,and that’s why they press for “globalization” so much.
@ Uncle Bob
You are right of course to point all that out. Those are the symbols that work like sublimation in one’s psychic and become part of one’s identity. The irony though is that those products come from the People’s Republic of China as if the world was the USA. If you are from somewhere else, you are just lumped with that trash.

Naomi Klein covers this whole subject well in her book from 1999, ‘No Logo’
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Logo
Yes, we are like the Native Americans for whom private property rights were completely outside their culture and who sold the original Manhattan Island for beads.
We sell our souls for trinkets and our precious free time to MTV “entrainment” without a clue that “garbage in equals garbage out”.
Helen,
As I move forward, I am increasingly disturbed by one phenomenon. Your mention of Naomi Klein made me to rethink on the same question – how come the intellectuals who have conscience and moral values, can ever support the parties/leaders that represent satanic forces ? Naomi Klein who contributed to the global fight against unjust and horrible imperialist capitalism with such fundamental works on Branding (No Logo), Disaster capitalism (Shock Doctrine) supports Hillary Clinton’s presidential aspirations … Even Noam Chomsky extended support to Killary !
Are these ‘intellectuals’ free to take their decisions or, even their ‘opposition to AZ Hegemonic cabal’ is part of the AZ game ? Do you have any clue ? (in spite of my best efforts, i’m yet to get satisfactory explanation !)
I’ll hazard a guess, Straight-bat.
They are both Jewish. Chomsky spent time in a kibbutz in Israel. Not sure of the timeline, but it seems to have been in the ‘plucky little Israel’ era, when Zionism was just Jewish nationalism (or percieved as such) rather than the Anglo-Zionist fascism it has since revealed itself to be. He defended Pol Pot well past any empirical justification, because of Kissinger’s carpet-bombing of Cambodia. I think morally, he found himself between a rock and a hard place – and chose to cling to the rock, despite it being demonstrably covered in slime…
Not sure why Klein is so lacking in insight re Clinton. I suspect its because of some ‘feminist’ atavism, as well as perhaps her pro-Israel views: I don’t know if she has relatives/friends in Israel, but many American Jews do. This makes it difficult for the traditional socialist Left, as Zionism – a default belief in the right to a national identity for Jews – is in conflict with the reality of land-theft/slow genocide of indigenous Palestinians.
I don’t think cognitive dissonance is always avoided by intellectuals, not even when the basis of their critiques are moral.
@ Straight Bat
@ Eimar
“I don’t think cognitive dissonance is always avoided by intellectuals, not even when the basis of their critiques are moral.”
From my own chequered experience, academics tend to be more susceptible to cognitive dissonance, not less. I would guess that this is due to their very narrow professional focus on their own subject which often excludes a down-to-earth attitude thus overlooking the obvious, careerism and because they are also human and therefore contradictory. They get older and more risk averse too, like many of us.
Academics also tend to discount emotional influence on their work, kidding themselves that they can be objective and unbiased—-yeah, right.
I find I can disagree with Klein’s politics and ‘feminist atavism’ while acknowledging that she wrote some powerful and groundbreaking essays on the dangers of globalisation. I disagree with Chomsky’s celebrated theory on linguistics but find a lot of his other ideas worthwhile.
Quite honestly, the older I get the more I realise that I don’t know anything at all for sure and therefore put much more weight on intuition, gut-feeling, than when I was younger and believed in certainties and correct answers.
Helen
“Quite honestly, the older I get the more I realize that I don’t know anything at all for sure and therefore put much more weight on intuition, gut-feeling, than when I was younger and believed in certainties and correct answers.”
– Almost the same for me, with the adding : what I know for sure is what I have learned through pain.
Helen,
While I agree that human behaviour and action can be often contradictory in day-to-day life, cognitive dissonance regarding very significant stance is something we don’t expect from so renowned intellectuals like Chomsky or Klein. Rather, in my opinion, a true intellectual will be consistent towards his/her belief/faith/ideology no matter what comes (however, there may be something like ‘course correction’ for anyone including an intellectual through a series of modified views/writings). Will give one example – I never found socio-political-economic views of Prof. James Petras showing cognitive dissonance !
You noted, “the older I get the more I realise that I don’t know anything at all for sure and therefore put much more weight on intuition, gut-feeling, than when I was younger and believed in certainties and correct answers.”
Should I frankly opine that, your statement is almost like a ‘confession’ from a seasoned academician that takes into account general aspects of cognitive functions – however, in your core belief / ideology, aren’t you very strong and rigid (which I appreciated in last cafeteria on The Saker when you wrote that “I’d like to see the death-grip that the US/UK/EU has on the world’s neck broken”) ? Speaking on ideology, you are so firm in your conviction, and rightly so – why should the great intellectuals (like Chomsky and Klein) who have so many followers across the world, not stand firm in their ideology for the sake of ongoing anti-imperialist anti-capitalist struggle !
I can only say that I know my own core beliefs because I have lived through and reflected much on the experiences that formed them. I’ve learned the hard way not to project my core beliefs onto people I think should logically have a similar outlook. My siblings, as an example, lived through the same basic experiences but have come to very different conclusions regarding their core beliefs.
I have no idea what Chomsky’s core beliefs are, nor what experiences formed them.
He is, however, a celebrated public intellectual with a reputation to defend so he will always, of necessity, have half an eye on the reactions of his audience of followers. Academics aren’t, generally speaking, the rarefied moral paragons that some like to idealise. The infighting and back-stabbing can be at least as power-driven and vicious as in any other hierarchy.
Helen,
Agree with you that academia is a place that can be as vicious as any other work-place …
As a result, many like me, stopped following Chomsky’s views/guidelines some time back. Increasingly, I got a feeling, that he(and many other established intellectuals) may be a part of ‘controlled opposition’, though I may be wrong.
eimar,
Your guess is logical. However, I still found it impossible to digest that the person (Chomsky) who authored such a book like ‘Manufacturing Consent’ himself will fall into the trap of ‘creating a consensus among supporters of Democratic party about Killary’s presidential bid’.
On Naomi, I suspected, though vaguely, that something like feminism might have a subtle role to play. You put that along with a ‘normal’ inclination to support Zionist causes (among the peoples with Jewish faith). Your logic in this case seems plausible.
Great observations, Eimar and Helen. I’ll just add one quick thought, specifically for Klein, as a Canadian intellectual.
It seems to me that in the past two or three decades, we in Canada were hit by this giant wave of ‘evil’, for which we were spectacularly unprepared. It seems this is the case for all segments of Canadian society, with the exception of a very specialised few.
I credit this to the ‘bubble wrap’ we received during the MAD days of the Cold War. Because there was genuine fear of MAD, and of the opponent on the other side of our national boundary, we received exposure to a much reduced version of the ‘evil’. Let’s say maybe 30 – 40%. So while Latin American countries, the American people, European countries, and others were dealing with 100% ‘evil’, we just were not here. So I really think we just don’t get it, and thus, don’t respond in proper proportion to the threat before us. Something like that… Maybe. :-)
U bet the situation is dire in Syria–they’re on the verge of collapse there.
Here’s one half of the Johnson&Johnson twins bleating about it mere days into his post.

Britain’s new Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has met US Secretary of State John Kerry in London to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Syria, the war in Yemen, and the rise of the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group.
During a joint press conference with Kerry on Tuesday, Johnson called on Russia to use its “unique ability” to stop the Syrian conflict by convincing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to end the fighting, which has ravaged the country some five-years.

“Johnson called on Russia to use its “unique ability” to stop the Syrian conflict by convincing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to end the fighting, which has ravaged the country some five-years.”
If this is true (and why not) then Boris Johnson deserves the title of clown.
Boris also trotted out the tired phrase “Assad must go” on the same day and in almost the same breath.
Theresa May must have a very black and twisted sense of humour to make him FM, giving him enough rope to hang himself, maybe?
As George Galloway said (I paraphrase) Britain has invaded every country in the world except 10 (?), unfortunately Boris has insulted all of them including those 10 (?)

Iran to deploy new MAV radar system designed to detect drones
July 16, 2016
The newly developed radar system can spot flying objects with a cross section of 0.01, according to Farzad Esmaili.
This is the first time Iran has announced it aims to unveil a radar apparatus to make its sky insecure for drones, which are difficult to detect.

Thanks for the article . The Iranian anti drone radar is being placed in the Khorasan region of Iran which is up near the border of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.. It is well known that 10,000 Isis fighters have been concentrated in Afghanistan in the last year for future mischief as part of the CIA run, anti Russian Operation Soft Underbelly.

Moonlight and gold
Midsummer magic when the night turns to day
And songbirds greet the dawn
You lie awake
You watch and wonder while the moon fades away
And one more day is born.
Tides keep on turning, while hearts keep on yearning
To be where they know they belong
All on a new day, you see in a new way
The things you’ve been leaning upon.
Moonlight and gold
I will awaken to a love that runs deeper
Than the need in me.
While you are sleeping, the new day comes creeping
And life keeps on passing you by
Magic unfolds when the blue meets the gold
And the sun comes to open your eyes.
Moonlight and gold
Midsummer magic when the night turns to day
And songbirds greet the dawn
You lie awake
You watch and wonder while the moon fades away
And one more day is born.

Thanks for the beautiful poetic thoughts. It is good to be reminded of the good news that is happening all the time. It tends to be forgotten because negative news threatens life itself; and therefore demands our attention.
I read the war news over at the military analysis room. Seems that the empire is using sports as a weapon like never before. War is probably the biggest sport of all, although we don’t look at it that way. Too telling, I suppose.
I like this cafe because cafes are places to relax, get away from war, enjoy good food and drink and stimulating conversation.
On my daily walk through town, I pass between the Ojai Cafe and the Ojai Vineyard, on a side street seventy paces from the main drag, Ojai Avenue. Their hanging signs out front are almost exactly across the street from each other. Riding the trolley into town I also pass the Topa Topa Vineyard, a new place connected to our five star Inn and Spa. When I pass these places, I think of this vineyard and cafe.
And of course, vineyards and cafes remind me of love, and poetry such as yours. Per the Love Army, I am in the habit of sending love to places and faces that need it, even to enemy empires, per Jesus’s “Love your enemies.” I visualize light drones, bombs and bullets of love going to the worst places and changing them.
I regret that mostly I fall into old habits of criticism, skepticism, fatalism and even hateism, fearism and depressionism. I’m blind as a bat and I can’t see either. But once in awhile there’s a poem like this in a cafe of lovers, and somehow the lights gets through my walls of resistance.
Dylan, bless his tortured heart, has a song: “I guess it’s up to me.” If I can change, so can the world, per the song “We are the World.” Thanks.

Yemen Talks Resume, National Delegations Says Committed to Political Settlement
Local Editor
Peace talks between Yemen’s warring sides resumed on Saturday in Kuwait City after the Saudi-backed delegates abandoned a boycott threat.
Sanaa delegation, which represents Ansarullah revolutionary group and its allies stressed it was committed to political settlement to the deadly crisis in the Arab impoverished country which has been since March 2015 under brutal aggression by Saudi-led coalition.
The UN special envoy for Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed said the negotiations, back on after a 15-day suspension, would last for two weeks and warned that they may be Yemen’s last chance for peace.

The rise of the Trump family into politics
Donald Trump, Jr at the RNC (19-7-2016): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DPqZXGCF8s
As written on the Right Side Broadcasting channel video description- “This guy WILL be President one day”.
What a treat, to be treated at least daily from now into the next 3+ months to this kind of grovelling, sniveling fatuous ring-kissing!
Mike Pence, the governor of the US state of Indiana, has drawn a direct comparison between presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and former US President Ronald Reagan.
Trump’s vice president made the analogy in a speech he delivered on Tuesday prior to the Republican National Convention held in Cleveland, Ohio, saying, the New York businessman reminds him of Reagan.

I just came from Club Orlov. This week (he publishes on Tuesdays) Dimitri has three really good articles. Dimitri teamed up with Saker and another who I forget, in their warning about world war.
Orlov is really bright and entertaining as a writer. Stacy Herbert, the interviewer, along with Kaiser, on the Kaiser Report, after much critical information, asked the pertinent question: “what has to change for us to survive?”
Orlov, prefaced his answer by saying his answer was sort of “touchy-feeling” (so uncharacteristic of him), and was “compassion.” You’d have to listen to the whole interview for the context, but I was impressed with the correctness of the word. I prefer the word “love,” not just because of semantics, but for power and universality.
In other words, in my words, we’re talking about a Love Army, that spells out what love means and what it will take to turn the world around, in practical terms. The fact that hardly anyone can relate to the injunctions of love, only speaks of our degradation; and serves to make the point.
I don’t know if we can survive. Love may have had enough, and decide it is time to cancel the whole show and start over. At 76, my show is going to end anyway relatively soon; but I’d like for my son to have a decent life, and really all of us.
I have already described the Love Army in the preceding cafes, and some at the main articles. There’s no time to go over that ground, or go into detail, as at thelovegovernment.com, so I’ll just repeat, and repeat the main points; the ten divisions of the Love Army, which opposes and acts against the inherent violence, in the contraries of the following necessary love acts:
1. Think love.
2. Eat Vegan.
3. Free animals (from pethood, mainly).
4. Marry communally (even if in a traditional coupling).
5. Use clean money (no interest).
6. Drug-free minds.
7. Be a-borning (not aborting).
8. Relate conceptively (not contraceptively).
9. Present one’s self (not prostitute one’s self).
10. Live personagraphically (not as a pornigraphic object).
The first five are the major strategic powers of love, and the last five the minor supporting forces.
Dimitri does not mention these, probably because he’s an intellectual who feels comfortable with big pictures from the rarified consciousness zones. I like the big picture of love (compassion for him), too, but without identifying the massive acts that we, the masses, are doing, we are doing a spiritual bypass, and are avoiding the nitty-gritty out of fear.
It’s de jure to confess my own ignorance and culpability, so let it be such. In a free zone, I am still required to say how I see, and admit that I am wrong if confronted with contrary evidence, based on reason rather than ad hominem subterfuges. De facto, the world is facing extinction by war or massive destruction by economic and cultural collapse, certainly possible and increasingly probable, from the evidence I can see, kindly provided me by stalwarts such as Saker and Orlov.
I know, many are afraid of war and I could understand them. In my case, I’m in war for many years, here in my home, in my family. The fear and the stress is always here, a very personal war which I try to evade sometimes by entering this vineyard. And what I see ? war and fear of war. My life is also gone Dennis even if I do make some poems – sometimes with sarcastic humor – in an effort to distract myself just a little bit from the daily war-games from inside. I don’t know how long will my heart and brain continue in this way but I have a say for myself : let the angels play their game with me, for they are more powerful. When my game is over, then haleluyah ! A little dog is watching on me, just not to commit an injury on myself. At least he is an angel whom I can touch and see and by looking in his eyes I still feel the kid on me. Why should I fear the greater war when I feel it as a call of liberty ? My days are not been done yet, but they’re approaching with each passing hour. I have heated discussions with the angels, for some of my thoughts and words they are not thankful I know, but they are silent. What can I tell more, expose myself, my core ? for what I tell today, tomorrow will be forgotten and then shall come a day, when everything shall rotten. I’m used to live the day, the hour and the minute, exploiting every way, for love, which is my tribute. I’m blasting on myself, against the sins I carry, for the past decisions which I’ve made in hurry.
may blessings and peace be upon you….

27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Thanks for the link…
The train has already left this cafe station but I must thank you for your sharing. It was touching and beautiful. Thanks for reminding me that war starts at the basic level of the family.
I see that you and so many others take comfort and inspiration from pets. My ex does the same. I realize pethood’s power over people who have deep emotional needs that are not met. I oppose pethood as a hidden violent aspect of the patrix, but I also have compassion on emotional grounds. I get along fine with pet owners but I do not tell them my views unless they ask.
I’ll tag this onto this: thanks to T13 for the link to Joan Baez’s “Love is just a four letter word.” Sad but true. Love has been destroyed by the patrix, not completely but almost so for us in this anti-love culture, which speaks of love nevertheless.
Joan and Bob could never make it in this culture. It’s also part of the patrix plan of marriage which undercuts community. Communal marriage would give Joan her needed security, and Bob his freedom to explore.
guess what re Bastille killings
Today it emerged that:
All lorries over 3.5 tonnes were permanently banned from the Promenade des Anglais, where the killings happened.
Despite the vehicle being more than five times over the limit, Bouhlel was allowed to drive it unchallenged up and down the Promenade at least four time.
All trucks over 7.5 tonnes were banned from moving in France on July 14 -France’s biggest public holiday.
Investigators lied to the public about the lorry being a refrigerated one, and thus capable of delivering ice creams.
Police vehicles used to back up flimsy barriers around the pedestrianized zone were removed just before Bouhlel struck.
At one point the 31-year-old told officers he had ice creams in the back of his hired vehicle – despite the fact that he was clearly in an ordinary delivery truck with no fridge.

things hotting up in Transnystria????

Ukraine has blocked the supply of fuel and lubricants to Transnistria. From the border with Transnistria a 24-car train was sent back to the producing plant in Belarus, where another 39 cars are waiting to be sent off.
The Ukrainian authorities explain their actions by the government decree of Moldova of 2002, by which the supply of goods by rail to Transnistria, bypassing the territory of Moldova, is prohibited.
‘What is happening today, while Ukrainian colleagues refer to the documents the Moldovan partners of 2002, says that the situation is triggered by some internal and external reasons today, in 2016. It is obvious that there is a set of interests in Chisinau and Kiev to make the situation in Transnistria most tense and further deteriorated it in the economic and social sectors,’ commented the Transnistrian political analyst Sergey Shirokov.
Meanwhile, traders of the Transnistria Moldavan Republic note that the fuel reserves in the country will last just for 10 days.
dni news
news from June was
‘Two years have passed since the last round of talks aimed at bringing the conflict between Moldova and the breakaway region of Transnistria to an understanding. The meetings are held in the so-called “5+2” format, with representatives from both parties holding a dialogue under the supervision of the OSCE, Russia and Ukraine, as well as observers from the EU and USA.
The most recent took place in Berlin, a success for Germany, which currently holds the presidency of the OSCE. That is, however, the only positive development to have come out of the meetings.
Despite an appeal from Germany’s Foreign Minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, both fronts have remained stubborn. “Only once the sides can agree to work together on a solution to the practical questions can trust be re-established and the positive dynamic necessary for working towards a settlement exist. I call on both sides to pursue this aim unflinchingly,” Steinmeier said when the talks began Thursday.
Yet both Moldova and Transnistria remain far from the foreign minister’s vision.”

Dear Saker community,
I’ve been following this blog for a few years now, having started when it was still in its old location. I want to thank The Saker and all who have contributed here in terms of very interesting comments, links and debates. I have never written anything here myself, being the observant type of personality that I am.
Now, after the very recent Wikileaks data dump of AKP’s e-mail servers, I feel I have to break the silence. After going through just a handful of documents, I am in a compelling need to start breaking down some of the things I’ve discovered so far in an environment that I feel I can trust to review the data in objective manner, without unnecessary accusations of tin-foil hats and whatnot; that’s something I don’t want to waste my time on. That is not to say I do not hope for any criticism, quite on the contrary.
I am, to put it mildly, baffled with some of the content found on the servers. They touch a wide range of issues, however, my curiosity is now in how much content there is on the “conspiracy theories” that have been circulating throughout the web for years.
Let me give you an example from one of the documents I have gone through (translations made with google translate, I’m sorry but this is the best I could do right now):
Subject: CIA FILE /// Kemal KAPLAN: Kennedy’s assassination and OPERATIONS 40

The sender of the e-mail is Özel Büro (Digi.Security.Isnet)”
The recipients of the mail (the same mail included a lot of topics, this is just one of them) is some kind of a mailing list. No individual recipients are mentioned.
I have also found out about allegations considering 911 being a global conspiracy, USA supporting ISIS etc. (nothing new there), USA preparing for war on Russia including ways and motifs, an essay comparing pre Operation Barbarossa and the situation now, among many other interesting texts. In any case, I really was not expecting this kind of content to be found on AKP’s servers. Looks like the Turks still have quite a few lessons to learn considering data and communications security, which for us, is of course a wonderful thing.
I have only gone through a handful, and there is about a half a million available. I strongly urge each and everyone to do some research on the database. We need all hands on deck if we are ever to dissect the content of the data dump; with this kind of content we can be absolutely sure our media will never do it for us.
Any thoughts are most welcome.
Good work. Thanks.

Diplomatic protest? OK as a first step.. but unless you sue the world sport authorities in every legal venue possible, they will have no respect for you. As for Kerry playing dumb: this is a case in which the right hand knows exactly what the left hand is doing. The beast is coordinated at certain nexus points in its bureaucratic web. Yes, there is an informal cultural and ideological consensus of hatred and attack dog mentality which is fostered and rewarded, but it is naive ( attn: Marc Slevoda) to think that they do not have working, sit-down meetings or at least tele conferences at certain times and locations on a regular basis.
The US military has put the political establishment on notice that if “we” are going to take on Russia, this campaign is not going to be run by State Department hacks who screw things up…i.e. Ukraine.
Turkey was not a screw up, by the way. It just is meant to look like one. The bit about Incirlik being “shut down”…oh please, the emergency generators clicked on and all was well, with sacrificial goats duly turned over to the Turkish State leaving all is as it should be military-to-military. In fact, the remaining Turkish military is now even more dependent on the US military in Turkey.
Now for the Frenchies.

Authorities have confirmed that French troops are fighting Islamist militia alongside government forces in Libya. The announcement comes after three French soldiers were killed during an intelligence-gathering mission in the North African country.
“At this moment we are carrying out dangerous intelligence operations [in Libya]. Three of our soldiers, who were involved in these operations, have been killed in a helicopter accident,” French President Francois Hollande said in a speech, as reported by Reuters.
France had previously acknowledged its warplanes were executing reconnaissance flights over Libya, but never admitted to deploying Special Forces personnel.

Sports in the 21st Century… What is this about lab testing? Are there not advanced, on-the-spot technologies to detect the chemicals in someone’s system? Like breath-o-lizers? Even substances metabolized by the liver, or excreted by the kidneys or eliminated by the colon must leave some other trace ( in the sweat? in the breath?) in the body. How about a corporation, Jock LabsAreUs ,that run Olympic franchise labs all over the world that are standardized, transparent in operation and open for inspection.
Besides, the idiot in Canada making unfounded accusations ( it is a fundamental of English Common Law that you have a right to be confronted by your accusers and not just the “hanging judge”) has no proof other than “we know how they Could have done it” , and the Minority-Report like insinuation that we know they wanted to do it.

to the moderator(s) my apologies. you were correct in your admonition for me to tone it down…I double checked and I have ( mea culpa) insinuated that Marc Slevoda is naive, and that McLaren in Canada is an idiot and since you blued out something which I hope you did not consider ad hominem in specific toward the Saker, I probably implied that someone in general was ignorant. Nice of you to show humility and atone for your misdeeds in public. We are all prone to cross our friendly MODs’ red line from time to time. On the other hand I detect a clever compounding of mischief in your apology by saying what is proscribed to be said! Smart alec!
A little sin now and then, especially against the PC strictures, should be encouraged to bring spice and verve to the discussions and help our MODs from falling asleep and, hopefully, bring a little smile to their stern faces.

There seems to be no way to avoid being shot by US police if you are a black man, like this therapist who was aiding an autistic man and had his hands up and bo weapon when the police shot him yesterday – the cop said “I don’t know why” when asked why he shot the innocent man.

In Europe, I am writing from Sweden, we try to stomach the Afghani madman who killed people with an axe on a train in Germany. After all the rapes and the things Muslims did in France and other countries. I know Nice and Paris well since my youth and France is my second country and so it also is for one of my children.
Do Englishspeakers know that a Muslim madman attacked civilians on a German train with an axe? He was a so called refugee. Very far from Florida? Far from Donbass, a place forgotten on this site.

Not just that but the refugee question is sidelined in these days because of the many other things happening in the world. In my opinion, it shouldn’t be. That Afghan refugee (some are saying that he is Pakistani) stood for 8 months in Germany, the state spending 48.000 euros on him, now he did this as a “thank”. No one is speaking about the rising number of refugees originated from Africa, landing on southern Italy with the help of Italian and NATO military vessels. Their numbers are growing by day ( aprox. 1200/day) in Italy currently living in camps more than 200.000. Why is this happening continuously without having a say ? The invasion hasn’t been stopped, just increased, and people don’t care because the tactics have been changed : less and less MSM publicity. The other thing is that peoples attention has been moved away from this issue. Now they got Pokemon to play with. How embarrassing the masses behavior has turned. Those countries that won’t accept this policy of the EU will be punished, fined. Is that OK ? Britain is slowly leaving the deck of EU while the other members will be put under more greater pressure even if now it seems calm for many (?)
