good press conference – thanks for translating and posting it – very interesting – especially Shoigu’s sarcasm about the heavy equipment of the Americans having to be gone in 1 hour and 20 minutes – hmm…I wonder what will happen when the hourglass is empty ?

    • Alabama on October 23, 2019  ·  at 8:22 pm EST/EDT

Well if the past is any indication, they will leave it behind where it will be copy catted and then used against us in future wars, or today closer to inspected, laughed at, and promply sent to the junk yard described as obsolete and not fit for battle.

      • Cascadian on October 24, 2019  ·  at 5:34 am EST/EDT

Let me see,… was that an example of American exceptionalism?

You know, America invented everything, anyone elses contribution is due to copycatting?

Well, if that’s the case, why are you so afraid of the Russians and Chinese?

Surely, if all they have done is copy your designs, then surely you know all the weaknesses in those designs (prime example – the F35) and so can circumvent them.

Oh, and let us not forget the fact that it was you guys who decoded the Enigma in WWII and the Poles and Brits had nothing to do with it. And then there was that capture of an Enigma machine from a German submarine – any suggestion that it was the Brits who captured it being, of course, pure fiction.

        (Removed insult,MOD)

Two professionals in action. We need more of this in the world.

They are MEN. Adult, calm, intelligent, well – informed, self controlled and disciplined.
A highly endangered species – at least in the Empire lands. Mostly found concentrated in Russia and related ‘Stans these days.

This is excellent. We’re seeing the end phases of a major war in our world. Let’s be thankful for a bit!

The USA is sickening – already rewriting the history books. Trump’s speech is short, but of course, he is claiming all credit.

    https://twitter.com/WhiteHouse/status/1187046858142687232

    • BobHNZ on October 23, 2019  ·  at 4:01 pm EST/EDT

The US doing the right thing for once is not sicking, it should be celebrated. Trump for a long time has been trying to get out of Syria, maybe he was pushed by the Turks but still at least the US is gone and Syria might now have a chance of coming back together.
Big thank you to Donald Trump, no one else in the US would have done it.

      • amarynth on October 23, 2019  ·  at 7:55 pm EST/EDT

Rewriting the history books right out of the starting blocks is sickening. Handing anyone ‘victories’ … just because he stamps his feet ? Claiming victories just because, well, I hope whoever writes this history book writes it correctly.

Lavrov stated it clearly. … We don’t have much appreciation for the position of the United States. It is volatile and ambiguous and the coalition under the leadership of the US have no legal rights in Syria …

So, to claim the victory is truly sickening – to claim that the US established a ceasefire along the border is quite outside of the realms of truth and is rewriting history. Calling off sanctions on Turkey, ‘unless something happens that we’re not happy with’ is quite a statement of over-entitlement and arrogance from an empirical and falling power. Trump can make trouble, but it is clear that the US influence in the region is gone and in reality, he cannot make trouble any longer. Not acknowledging anyone involved for the work that was done over many years of war makes a mockery. Not lifting sanctions on Syria is a forlorn hope that this empire can hold on to something, anything that makes them feel good.

What about speaking the truth? One can very diplomatically speak the truth.

        • Gezzah Potts on October 24, 2019  ·  at 5:23 pm EST/EDT

Agree with you Amarynth… The vile presstitutes are ignoring the actual reality, and making out this is all the United States doing. Putin barely exists in their fake news world.

“So, to claim the victory is truly sickening – to claim that the US established a ceasefire along the border is quite outside of the realms of truth and is rewriting history.”

          Yeah, in a way.
But what is sickening here might make the meal palatable to a domestic USA audience.
Americans do not like to eat humble pie.
          Just a thought.
Whatever it takes to get the job done.

@BobHNZ Concur totally with your finding !
Doing the right thing and then sell it to the people is his job ! That this selling includes odious amounts of perfume (of the somewhat antiquated brand Exceptionalism) smells only funny for non-US noses.

Trump will take the 2nd term in a landslide after having totally demolished the Demoncrats (so they can build something better from the ruins, maby Gabbard will THEN take the lead ??).

That kool aid is addicting for some, bob. The israeli’s colonial trumpty dumpty quislings didn’t leave Syria. They pulled some troops out and repositioned some others. At least get you basic facts straight.

Vot theres a lot of talk on these pages about Moscow winning… something. Are you saying everyone here is deluded?

  4. Larchmonter445 on October 23, 2019  ·  at 2:47 pm EST/EDT

Two of the best, even schooling the press corps who have caught the ugly disease of rudeness and unprofessionalism.

If anyone in the region does not think these are serious matters the Russians will enforce to the letter, they will suffer the heavy hand of the Bear.

    • cdvision on October 23, 2019  ·  at 5:55 pm EST/EDT

Definitely two of the best. Lavrov is smoothness personified, but Shoygu certainly leaves an indelible impression. You wouldn’t want to get on his wrong side. A perfect match; the iron fist and the velvet glove.

  5. JJ on October 23, 2019  ·  at 3:31 pm EST/EDT

“The German Defense Minister, Annegret Crump-Karrenbauer, called for the creation of an international security zone in Syria. The initiative will be presented to the NATO. She noted that she had agreed on this proposal with the Chancellor Angela Merkel. The proposal will be submitted to the NATO Allies during the meeting of the NATO Defense Ministers on 24th and 25th of October. “The question of ‘how this solution might look like’ lies in the creation of a security zone, controlled by the international community, with the involvement of Turkey and Russia, with the common goal of the de-escalation of the situation” — she explained.”

Not sure if this will treated as a comedy or to be totally ignored…or an opportunity for Russia -Nato in some master slave relationship?

    • Englishman on October 23, 2019  ·  at 4:20 pm EST/EDT

They never learn, security of the Syrian Turkish border is no business of those clowns.

    • Anonymouse on October 23, 2019  ·  at 4:45 pm EST/EDT

it is hilarious. nato coming to the party after its all over trying to piggy back some ‘glory’. They are a defeated entity and will not be welcome in the area and it goes without saying that, like the US, they absolutely not trusted.

      @JJ
Remember Trump ? “Europe is to take back those thousands of cute, heroic Rebel Fighters !”

Now the back bottoms of some is in danger of freezing stiff, so they try to bring in the UN to redirect the whole, but nonetheless OF COURSE, the bill will be handed to the Merkel farce comedy gang nonetheless.

I’m all for the russian Airforce delivering them right to the gates of the Bundestag fully armed and in flying banners where then the ‘coming home’ party can be celebrated worthy of the circumstances – the larger part of Germany would be very, very grateful !

      • vot tak on October 24, 2019  ·  at 1:06 am EST/EDT

“Not sure if this will treated as a comedy or to be totally ignored”

This proposal to get nato fully involved is another attempt by zionazi, inc. to regain the initiative they have now clearly lost. I can’t see Syria greenlighting any of that nonsense.

    • Katherine on October 24, 2019  ·  at 10:15 pm EST/EDT

      What are these dames smoking????
There will be blood on the tracks before Russia—never mind Syria—lets NATO stick even a whisker under the Syrian tent flap. IMHO.

The zionist State Dept cannot quite grip the idea that it might be better to cut their losses. Spokesman here is zionist Jeffries who is a wind up puppet unable to act or talk without guidance from nitenyaahoo and the viper infested handlers at state, clearly pompeo and hook. Neo con arrogance personified.

Turkish-Syrian border security zone to fall under Syrian law, Moscow says

    https://tass.com/world/1084877

“The security zone in the area of the Syrian-Turkish border will fall under Syrian law, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin said during a press conference timed to United Nations Day.

“The memorandum entered into force today at noon. It has no expiration date, which means that so far, the zone will function without deadlines. As for the laws active in the zone, I think that any Syrian territory must fall under national law,” he said.”

Reflections on amarynth and Katherine and other commenters:

Trump’s letter to Erdogan and subsequent pronouncements regarding Syria (mostly) sound like texts by a ten year old, to a younger sibling……..on a “dumb phone”………………that much is agreed!

What is not appreciated sufficiently is that Trump’s target audience (which is not here….nor in Turkey, nor Syria, nor Russia) but is ….and has to be…not very many of us here….but rather …for the most part , far less informed scores of millions of voters in North America….which are extremely diverse and divided………..and are many years younger than his oft shown outrageous (“ten year old”) public persona…….(there is also a clearly more intelligent side to him…but you have to be willing to look for it…lol)…..in terms of THEIR aggregate political and intellectual maturity…… and it is almost impossible to lead them in any direction…. except to continue their trajectory to their own doom…………which has been their habit….and their direction ….for the last half-century.

It is similar in Western Europe, except that Europeans, including the English have the relative advantage of being less isolated from the rest of the world….and might be considered to be almost nearing puberty…….in the aggregate…..with many more young adults and wiser elders distributed among them……..than is the case in North America.

“Americans do not like to eat humble pie.” is a true statement, but the fact is ….that they should! They have behaved very, very badly for many decades….and deserve a very hard spanking.

Or minimally a Rude Awakening Dousing with a bucket of ice-cold water.

But no politician that wants to remain in office 5 more years or 5 more months can tell them that much truth….that suddenly.

There’s a method to Trump’s “madness” that happens to be working in ways many here have no interest in comprehending. That’s understandable……so let them vent!

Meanwhile, let them reflect on how THEY might handle the American Voting Public more successfully
………which requires remaining in office for years…..and gathering strength against a Deadly Deep State …and winding down foreign entanglements and sidestepping geopolitical land mines set all over the world … by The Empire…. which DJT….is actually doing.

But many of the venters here refuse to consider the possibility that he may not embody The Empire……but actually could be….not guaranteed, but could be! …..the Orange Wrecking Ball …that demolishes it….takes it down.

And would they last even two days if you plopped them into the Oval Office and made them President of This Mess??

I don’t think I could. How about you???

    • Anonymous on October 25, 2019  ·  at 2:06 pm EST/EDT

      I agree.
But politics is the art of the possible. The American public such as it is is what Trump has to work with.

and perhaps his propaganda effort is not sophisticated enough to “turn” the American public as fast as FDR “turned” ’em pre–WW2. But IMO they are ripe to be turned.

It is the politicos in DC and the media whores who are the biggest stumbling blocks to sanity in the USA.

Only problem I see is that the consequences of tyranny (withholding education for personal, financial, or political gain) really start to show themselves after a 100 years, and then shortly there after explode in the offending party’s face.

We have a plate full of consequences ready to be served up, and you can not exactly punish those dead people of the past who share in the blame. But those who continue the tyranny in the name of that’s the way its always been done, not only can be admonished, but also be blamed for the suffering of innocent people who are here now and must make the fast severe adjustments it will take to turn the tyranny around. Item after item being served up with a 100 year history of denial to its credit makes for a very unhappy political environment once the house of cards begins to tumble, which it soon shall.

This is how I know that a rookie politician (or even lobbying firms) really doesnt/dont know what he, she, or they is/are getting themselves into or obviously they would sit this one out, by not sitting out, they open the door to being wrong and naturally critized for being so.
