Jean Kirpatrick’s authoritarian/totalitarian distinction was BS. It was just a way to call dictatorships that followed US orders something “nicer” than what the US called countries (not even always dictatorships) that did not follow US orders. There is nothing “left” about US hegemony. There is nothing “left” about liberals. US regimes led by the “Democratic” party have been right wing in most significant ways.
Hannah Arrendt’s book on Totalitarianism very clearly set the standard. And I think I remember it well enough to explain. If not, please consult her as an excellent source.
Authoritarianism is where the government officials enforce order by having the power to have people arrested and imprisoned.
Totalitarianism is where the government officials enforce order by having the power to kill.
Both Hitler and Stalin are used as examples, as in both the police could kill. For instance, if a Gestapo officer thought you were disloyal, he could pull out a pistol and shoot you. Or kill you by other means, including torture.
Two notes …. anything from the Reagan Administration should be taken with some big grains of salt.
And, listening to an audio book version of Hannah Arendt’s book on Totalitarianism while on a roadtrip across America is not a good idea. At least not in some parts. It was Christmas, and I was late getting to the library and the audio books had already been picked through. But, I’d heard of her book and wanted to read it so thought it might do.
Driving across Indiana, where like every other billboard and roadsign is the face of a police officer threatening to get you and all the other lawbreakers driving on the roads, while listening to scholarly research into the Gestapo is not a good combination.
Especially not if you are familiar of the statistics on how many people the American police really kill every year.
Excelent analysis, Although Gonzalo should have added the religious dimension to the reasons of the hatred for Russia. The Catholics carry a long anger towards the Russian Orthodox religion, the Vatican tried many times to destroy Eastern Orthodoxy from the crusades of the Teutonic Order, the Jesuits infiltration creating the Uniates and many other conspiracies. Is interesting to hear the Pope Francis attacking Russia and Putin in the case of the special operation in Ukraine and his silence towards Western aggressions, the West also tried to hurt The Orthodox church by trying to divide it probably bribing the Orthodox. Patriarch of Constantinople. A subject interesting to explore and investigate the many Catholic conspiracies.
I live in the U.S. I didn’t know that the “duck and cover” drills continued in U.S. schools until the 1970s. I took part in them during the 1950s and 1960s. LONG uncomfortable periods sitting on the floor under my desk or out in the hallway leaning face-first against the walls with arms folded over our heads. Us kids weren’t geniuses but we knew no one would bomb our small isolated rural town. Years later, it occurred to me that the point of those drills was not to protect us. The real point was to leave a lasting impression on us and indoctrinate us: fear the Russians, hate the Russians. I suppose that it worked on many of us kids. But I can’t say I ever hated Russia. In fact, to this day Russia fascinates me. I took a course in college (1972) on Russian history using a book by Risianovsky. Around 2012, I started taking trips to Russia via Google Maps–the satellite images have improved greatly since then. Few places on earth like Pevek, Russia!
Regarding hating Russia because of the USSR threat to the US:
We never were taught a word of hate or fear.
We practiced duck and cover, laughing at it.
The famous joke was: “Put your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye”
In Catholic Schools we prayed for the conversion of the USSR from Communism to Christianity. There never was a word of negative thought against Russia.
My life long experience, the USSR was a competitor, the US political regimes hated the competition and did all it could to bring down the USSR.
Analyzing the anti-Russia situation led me to see the Khazarians as the driving force. Jews hate Russia. Jews from Russia and Jews from Ukraine hate Russia (generally speaking, not all, but nearly all I’ve ever met, seen, heard or read). And that includes my college sweetheart who to this day is totally irrational about Russia and Russians. Her family got pogromed two generations ago, which probably saved them from the nazis. They skipped over the ocean and became successes in the US.
What is very interesting is Jews have been chased from nearly every country and continent. But the one they hate is Russia.
I have read that it stems from the Russians dealing very harshly with the shitful behaviour of the Khazarians when Khazaria was a thing. Puts the “antisemitism” nonsense into an interesting perspective.
It’s an historical fact that in Rome, The Catholic Church despises and did despise “Russia.” This went way back during the Russian Revolution.
I have a very knowledgeable source, an Italian, on this deep-seated hatred for Russia. That source is an Italian who is very well educated.
The basis for this hatred and smear campaign on the part of Rome’s Church has to do with the very nefarious relationship between the Vatican Bank and its continued outreach and alignments by US & EU Capitalism.
If you want, send me a response, I’ll be more than glad to fill you on the details regarding The Church’s sordid political & financial roles it’s played both in the very distant and relatively recent past.
While on face value you’re statement is true of some ignorant western catholics, the eastern rite catholics have mush more in common with Russian orthodox than the woke Jesuit mob attempting to hijack the Vatican. Francis and the Jesuits represent catholics like pussy riot represents russians
Thank you for another informative podcast. Your explaination of the alledged massacre at Bucha, and what I have thought and seen on other podcasts makes me believe that the Ukrainians have the most to gain from this, i.e, to get Western backing funding and arms shipments, Public outrage and the Public’s demand that the West supports Ukraine even more.
Thank you for your information ,context and clarity in these crucial
Are you familiar with the LaRouche’s foundation Westphalia Agreement petition being signed and going into circulation with a number of international signatures ? Of course the media does not cover or give coverage to the libertarians here in the USA . Diane Sare, a libertarian is running against Chuck Schumer.
Would like your thoughts on this platform and Westphalia agreement mentioned if any.
Its aims seem to be quite promising if enacted.
Thanks for information & context.
Long stream of consciousness, with some valuable background on the historic hatred of Russia and its link to US policy to destroy Russia.
Very important to understand the corruption and sick, criminal mind of Ukrainian leaders.

Hello Larch, may I ask you, what is your explanation for the Jews hatred towards Russia?
What is your stance on the claims, that Putin is in bed with Chabad Lubavitcher?
Thanx & greetings

most pogroms occurred in what is today Ukraine.
it is interesting that Ukrainians are not held responsible
