CELAC is an older bloc that has been dormant for a number of years as this community one way or the other was subject to sanctions, or attempts at regime change or such types of adventurism by the western bloc under the influence of the old Monroe Doctrine.
Now CELAC has been revived. The article quoted here was written by Ben Norton, a contributor to the Grayzone. It depicts the major changes in the Latin Americas, sometimes called ‘the pink tide’. The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is a forum of 120 developing world states that are not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc. After the United Nations, it is the largest grouping of states worldwide.
CELAC wants to make the OAS (Organization for American States that includes the US and Canada), redundant.
China’s President Xi Jinping, too, sent a message to CELAC, congratulating it on the historic summit and calling for further developing and strengthening the region’s relations with Beijing.
It was another example of the growing international movement to defend multilateralism and sovereignty against US hegemony and domination.
Pepe Escobar weighed in on this occasion with a tweet saying:

This illustrates the movements and new independent coalitions from this major part of the Global South. It is very important to notice that the CELAC conference was welcomed in Mexico. Mexico is more and more aligning with its natural compatriots to the south, and doing a yeoman’s job being the border country between the US and the Global South. Mexico also hosted recent talks for Venezuela between the current government and the resistance (the Juan Guaidó supporters mainly).
Why not the “Realigned Nations” and a new U.N.? Since the Charter cannot be changed without the consent of the Security Council and its permanent members, 120 countries in the General Assembly can simply make multipoint demands on the U.N. or it dissolves in 96 hours. It is time for the bromance with Uncle Schmuel. It is time to agree with Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer on this one. “No More Tears.” “Enough is Enough is enough”. End the incestuous relationship and realize you want that senile uncle “out that door now.”
The developments in central and South America are very favourable for those people. It’s especially relieving to see Mexico making effords to support its brotherly nations and distancing itself from the US. It’s about the the peoples of central and southern Americas stand together in solidarity with their brothers and sisters from Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua. Those countries are standing proudly and courageously against US-imperialism. We saw what America did in Latino America for the last decades by establishing brutal neo-liberal and fascist government dictatorships in Argentina, Chile and Brazil. Luckily, those times are gone and the peoples of the Hispanic world are about to arise and start a new era on the American continents…
Doesn’t sound like a lot of nations in the American Continents want the US to rule over them like a hegemon as a bone thrown to it for losing its global hegemony, eh?

China should also note that these nations wish to be NON-ALIGNED i.e. not tethered to China.
The great advance in the 21st century is smaller nations joining together to resist the grasping demands of ego-fuelled would-be hegemons.
I wish the people of my country would realise that their lives would be far more peaceful, prosperous and joyful if they were also non-aligned. It’s only the 1% that benefit from forever wars….
