The hostility to Iran is actually due to the fact that it is a sovereign country which, since the Islamic Revolution Imam Khomeini in 1979, refuses to submit to the political, economic and cultural hegemony of the United States and reached independently a very high level of development. The nuclear issue is just an excuse because a fatwa of Imam Khomeini categorically prohibits nuclear weapons, sometha ruling that no one could challenge in Iran. Imam Khomeini and later Imam Khamenei openly declared the American imperial superpower and its Trojan horse Israel as implacable enemies, and worked crucially against their influence in the Middle East. These are their unforgivable “crimes”.

I remember Saddam doing exactly that and as well found out, the weapons inspectors were actually spies. And although they never found anything, the US kept on increasing the pressure to find something. They could never do that since Saddam ordered the government to turn over everything and to stop everything. Even those who took their work home was interrogated by both Saddam’s men as well as the inspectors. The punishments were severe for anyone found to be doing wrong.
In the end the US invaded and destroyed the country and killed millions of Iraqi’s. Using knowledge they gained from the inspections, by subverting Saddam’s generals and chain of command also via the inspectors.

Exactly. The Belgian inspectors passed all their info to IS, when the attack against Iraq was being planned. Do you think you could ever hope to make back what you lost? Or that the pain would be any less than getting flogged. Because it is so dense, DU makes excellent armor penetration rounds. Only nations with nuclear fuel refining industries have DU penetration rounds available to their armed forces. When fighting against a foe that *does* have DU, there will certainly be massive losses of your own armored vehicles.
In the past, American and Israel have only ever started wars with small nations that don’t have DU weapons.Also, since Israel & USA rely on a combat doctrine of substituting technological advantage for superiority in numbers, neither can realistically engage in conflict where losses are going to be very high. Iran is one of the last sovereign countries in the middle east. The other is Syria (under a Baathist government) which is under sanctions, with large parts of the country controlled by “rebel” groups and Islamist militants (sponsored by the Gulf States and USA).
Middle East used to have many secular,
anti-colonial, Arab nationalist regimes that implemented socialist economic policies and had close links to the ussr. All these regimes were formed during the 1950-1960s mainly by coup d etat by military commanders but they had genuine popular support.
Examples were Nasserist Egypt, Gadaffi’s Libya, Baathist Iraq and Syria, Algeria. South Yemen even had a Marxist regime !
Iran on the other hand had a pro USA regime with the Shah but all these changed with the Iranian revolution.
All the Arab nationalist regimes have now disappeared. After Nassers death, Egypt became aligned to USA. Iraq and Libya were destroyed by USA.
